Yeah, spending 15 minutes of watching cars sit idling on pit road (the exciting part...) stretched out over a 2 hour broadcast (the dull part...) with like an hour of combined commercials (the aggrovating part...) made this the worst Daytona 500 qualifying session I've ever seen. But Mikey swears that the fans love this! This is just so exciting!!

Knockout qualifying for the Daytona 500 is an absolute joke. Every driver they interviewed, except for one, absolutely hated it. And the one driver who didn't? NASCAR on Fox bootlicker Michael Waltrip. It's just a terrible idea. So stupid.

The Bud Shootout Sprint Unlimited All Star Race just wrapped up to kick off the 2015 season, and I have a few thoughts: The current restrictor plate package is about as good as they've done in a while. Should be a good show next week. Tony Stewart looked very racey til he got wrecked. I think he's a serious contender for the 500. I think I'll be pulling for him more than anyone else. Would be very special to see him move on with his life with a Daytona 500 championship. With all the sad business going on in his life Martin Truex Jr. seems to have a fast car, and appears to be racing with a lot of heart right now. Potential show stealer. There will not be many cars running at the end of the Daytona 500. Lots of wrecks should be expected. It's going to come down to the 10 (or so) remaining clean cars at the end. Matt Kenseth and the JGR boys looked good. Not as great as people are making out. It was a fine win, but I don't expect a repeat in the 500. Kenseth and Hamlin will be great, but I think Edwards will face some growing pains, and I generally think Kyle Busch is massively overrated. Joey Logano is a rolling hazard and his competitors are getting tired of it. I think he'll get what he deserves sooner than later. He caused the big stackup with Biffle and McMurray, then he did it again (pushing in the corners) to Harvick. Then the guy has the nerve to throw a conniption fit when he gets confronted about it. Harvick, Newman, Hamlin, Stewart, Bowyer... lots of drivers are expressing discontent with this guy. He won't last long racing this way. Can't wait for the season to officially get going next week!

Watching Walt struggle with the moral decision of killing or releasing Krazy 8 was the specific thing that hooked me to Breaking Bad. Such good writing.
-
:goodone: If it wasn't for Netflix I would have probably never watched the whole series. I didn't care much for the first season. Seriously? The first season of Breaking Bad was my favorite.

The Official Super Bowl Prediction Thread
KenJennings replied to laughedatbytime's topic in One Little Victory
Congrats to the winners, it was a great game. But let's not get crazy on the Brady talk. I don't think it's crazy at all. He's persevered above arguably the toughest class of top-tier QBs in NFL history, remaining toward the head of that class every year for nearly fifteen years, and has established himself as the most capable in that field of winning championships and delivering success under pressure. I'm thinking best ever right now. And I don't think that's any overstatement. -

Agree. -
I thought it was pretty run-of-the-mill. If not, a little above average. My expectations for the Super Bowl halftime are so low, that it's quite a feat to leave me disappointed. So I'd give Katy Perry a B... as far as halftime shows go.

Well: the fix certainly seems to be in for the Seahawks. -
Will Jeff Gordon retire with 100 career wins?
KenJennings replied to KenJennings's topic in One Little Victory
Looks like the #25 will be Chase Elliott's car part time for a few races this year. Next year, it could be 24, 25 or even 9. Richard Petty sounds like he's willing to part with the 9.- 43 replies

Will Jeff Gordon retire with 100 career wins?

It makes me sick how the pinheads in the sports media are ignoring this story. Gordon is a transcendent figure like Jeter, Manning or Jordan, yet they're to busy talking about Belicheck's squishy balls. Some respect here... one of the greatest sports figures of all time is ending an amazing career in his prime. Attention is deserved.- 43 replies

Will Jeff Gordon retire with 100 career wins?
KenJennings replied to KenJennings's topic in One Little Victory
They're officially saying this is his final "full time" season, so the door is open to see him run part time schedules in the future... But I have my doubts. Jeff Gordon isn't the guy itching to race all the time. He's not like Mark Martin or Terry Labonte running Busch or Trucks while in cup: he's a focused guy, and he was like that even before his back issues flared up. If he does run select races, I think they will be few and far between with very high quality cars, competing for wins. A lot of the talk suggests Chase Elliott will fill his seat at Hendrick. I just hope they change the number. Let's let the 24 rest a while.- 43 replies

Doesn't look like he'll make it. He's retiring at the end of the 2015 season. With at least 93 wins (all modern era) and 4 championships (would be 7 under the rules that Earnhardt won his under), Gordon's name has to go down as one of the 2 or three best ever, if not the best ever.- 43 replies

Right. They wouldn't have been in the game. Dallas would have.

I sorta see New England as the modern "America's Team." If I haven't got anyone else to root for, it's nice to see Tom Brady knock 'em down.
-
That was the most entertaining game of the season.

I'm am disgusted to be rooting for the Seahawks.

Google Abandons Google Glass - Nerd Community Implodes
KenJennings replied to Tony R's topic in Reverse Polarity
I've always thought that Google Glass was a very cool idea. It's too bad that there's been such a visceral neo-luddite reaction to everyone who wears them. The problem isn't with early adopters, the problem is with imposing busybodies who obsess over what other people do. -
I agree. I agree here. But what do you think about the Tour De France ones? In that case, aren't the 2nd, 3rd, 4th... place finishers at least advanced to account for the changes in running order? I understand that it's sometimes necessary to adjust for cheating in the field of play, but someone still won, and things need to be adjusted accordingly. No, they decided that no one won those races. Yeah... I'd rather see the cheater keep his trophy then.

I don't understand how the NCAA can just negate wins. When they take away those wins, do they go back and recalculate the records of every team Penn State played, and give the win to them? I mean, those games were still played, right? Are they all turned into ties? Do we just pretend they never happened? Are the losers cleansed of the loss from their records? Is just stupid. Someone won those games. Claiming otherwise is just factually wrong.

Awkward: NJ Governor humps Jerry Jones' leg...
KenJennings replied to lerxt1990's topic in One Little Victory
He had complete control be the time he fell. And he was reaching. The ball popped out.. so no catch. Give it up bro. No football move and the ball popped out. The ground forced the ball out after he caught it, controlled it, and made a football move. I don't see any reasonable way to consider it otherwise. -

Fundamentally wrong argument. The ball is the only thing to advance. The arm moves with the ball, and the arm is part of the player. In football, the ball is the measure of advancement. No. In this case, the person advances the same amount regardless of whether he reaches out or not. That's why it's important to read the rules. The person is attached to the ball, and the ball is the official measure in football. A ball under control can not advance without a person with it. Falling isnt a football move bro. Usually, no. I agree and just said that. And if Dez had just fallen, I might agree. But he did more than just fall. Reaching is a football move. It is a conscious attempt to advance with the ball beyond your current spot.
