  3. QUOTE (laughedatbytime @ Jul 31 2011, 04:34 PM)I haven't watched it in at least five years and have absolutely no interest in anything they show. It's been about 20 years for me I think. It should be called RTV for the reality crap shows they have on there now. Double spew...
  4. http://blog.vh1.com/files/2011/07/mtv-1311791081.jpg August 1st 1981, ah, the first day of the good old music video days, when MTV was actually just starting and was worth watching. We would spend hours back then watching the various videos. Still remember the first time I saw KISS without their make up was on MTV in '83. lol Then after about 6 or 7 years when Nina Blackwood and Alan Hunter, and Mark Goodman all left it started going down hill from there I think, until Martha finally left for good. Although Headbangers Ball and some of the Unplugged concerts were still decent to watch for awhile after most of the original VJs had left. VH-1 Classic has been running an MTV special all weekend but tonight at midnight the first hour of MTV will be replayed as it was shown back then. I'm gonna try to check it out just for the memories. The original MTV VJs, except JJ Jackson who died in 2004, are still on the air but they have been on sat radio since 2005 taking turns DJing the 80's channel. They will be hosting a 5 hour special tomorrow, with some 80's band members as special guests, starting at 7am. Replaying at 1pm and again at 7pm. They still rock. A pic from 1983... http://www.sohoblues.com/RockandRollRevue/previewpages/preview18.jpg And a pic of how they look today, taken just a couple days ago. That's Eddie Money in the middle, one of the guests from tomorrows special. And Martha is still a beauty of course. http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Mark+Goodman+MTV+VJs+Visit+SiriusXM+Record+252ymRKr3UZl.jpg
  5. QUOTE (BodyForWife @ Jul 27 2011, 07:35 PM) Again, thank you for all the kind comments about the column. I was interviewed on CBC Radio on Monday - the day it was in the paper - about what it was like to interview Neil. Here is the link: http://www.cbc.ca/eyeopener/episode/2011/0...ness-interview/ Best regards, James Fell A well done 6 minute bit there James. Thanks.
  6. Earl dude, ever since you posted the site link, I find myself going there at least once a day to sweat to the heat of Sahara. From 2:30 - 3:45 or so just does it for me. I even went to YouTube to try to find a live version but no luck. Best that they had was the live version of Ice, which is good too though. I had hardly listened to any Camel in the past because I never cared for the vocals much but damn, Andy can tear up a guitar on their instrumentals. If you know of any live versions of Sahara let me know. Question of the day; how much sugar do Camel fans like in their coffee, one hump or two? Catch the (Camel) spirit, catch the (Camel) spit! Signed, Camel Toe
  7. QUOTE (Sodoff Baldrick @ Jul 25 2011, 02:34 PM)If you enjoyed the book, thanks for the kind words. There will be a follow up, to be called Dead Sector A. Working on it later this year. If you didn't like it, sorry about that. I realize not everybody is going to like the book, but I do thank you for giving it a shot. Ah yes, DSA should be interesting. Here's a tidbit for ya miss Kat, sometimes when I'm out on a road trip, and don't feel like any music, sports or whatever, I will tune in to Book Radio, where the books come to life, and the pictures are in your head. A narrator will read a book to you while you listen. Kinda neat actually. This week's schedule in PDF format.
  8. QUOTE (Mara @ Jul 25 2011, 10:40 AM)As a former moderate smoker (well, pack-a-day) AND ultra-marathoner, I can tell you that one does not preclude the other. I finished more than one road race/marathon and hunted around to find the huddled pack of fellow smokers furtively lighting up behind some building near the finish line. There were always at least a couple dozen of us, depending on how big the event was. Doubt you'll find any smokers amongst elite athletes, but Neil isn't claiming to be one. At this point he may well have quit anyway; I don't recall any references to "Red Apple" breaks in his road diaries from the most recent tours. Good points there, and it is definitely possible to be a smoker and still be an athlete. I present to you the case of Fred Biletnikoff, former Oakland Raiders wide receiver for 14 years and also MVP in Super Bowl XI. This guy kicked ass on the field and he was a smoker! I have seen video of John Madden talking about how Fred was a smoker and sometimes would even light up on the sidelines during a game. LOL As for Neil, I kinda suspect he may have quit the ciggies myself, maybe even before the Time Machine tour started, hence the few extra pounds he has put on, but I don't know for sure. I quit cigs over 25 years ago, but even when I did smoke, I thought I might as well try to counteract the effects of it by staying in shape as much as I could, so I did.

Not singing tips though! Don't be so quick to judge her voice without even giving her a chance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_GMgkcc2KM&feature=related Liddy, I have to thank you for that link. All this time that she has been around, I never even knew what she sounded like, I just assumed that because of her goofy name, and also her goofy getup, that she was just another Madonna wannabe trying to get paid. But I have to tell you, after seeing her sing that tune, I was shocked. I still don't care for her name, or most of her various wild clothing attire, but after seeing that video, I will never say that she can't carry a tune. I think she has got some decent pipes, at least on that song. Not sure about any of her other stuff because like I said, I had never heard her sing before. I won't be going out and buying her stuff or anything because I don't really care for the pop music category, but if she sings most of her music anywhere close to the way she sang that song, I could give some of it a listen. So yes, I was surprised, she didn't suck quite as much as I thought she did. I kinda wish now that she was in the rock n roll biz and not pop. She could belt out some good rock tunes I bet. And I had never seen her do an interview where she is just herself, like she seemed to be on Stern. I see she still puffs a bit o' weed every now and then, and she has done harder drugs in past years. From the same show, here's the clip... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-Re20Ec26M&feature=related glad that you gave her a shot. i only gave her a shot when i heard Born This Way. who cares if it sounds like Madonna, which i don't think it does. the lyrics and her message are what's important, and that's why i appreciate her and what she does. i HATE poker face and paparazzi, but one i heard born this way, i changed my mind completely. then i started hearing these acoustic performances, and i can appreciate her even more now. btw, here's another from when she was on Howard... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiYaT28Pctg&feature=share btw, on the album version of this, you could swear it was a pat benetar song that's been remixed. lol Liddy, I saw that one too. I was thinking just last night that if she was a rocker, she would remind me a lot of a Pat Benetar type singer with maybe a Lita Ford outfit.
  10. Hog man, don't be so hard on yourself. I wouldn't consider you a true fan. But then I don't really know how much you listen to her stuff either. Somehow though, the Gaganess has worked it's way into your heart and soul pretty deep for you to take the time to post that people in this thread are ignorant with ignorant opinions. I don't consider these people ignorant with ignorant opinions. Just regular people with regular opinions like on any forum. I think she does indeed have some talent, but as for myself, when she crossed that commercial pop music line, all that talent shit went right out the window. I'm just not fond of commercialized pop music is all.
  11. QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jul 24 2011, 02:29 AM)http://www.camelproductions.com/ Looking for a heavy middle eastern inspired instrumental to light your opium water pipe to? Well folks, wait no more! Go to http://www.camelproductions.com/, click on Jukebox, pick your bandwidth, select a track, click on #5 and bake out to SAHARA! Don't be alarmed by the slow beginning, by the time the opi hits your head you'll be rockin' to the middle part of this tune like you were in the city of Kashmir! It might be Midnight at the Oasis, but you ain't gonna put this Camel to bed! Signed, Maria Muldaur

  13. James, killer article there man. Thanks for giving us a sneak preview of tomorrow's content. The big guy still has it in him to go the distance. I liked your thoughts on him as a musical Jack LaLanne. Good one!

  15. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Jul 23 2011, 08:11 AM)I've been up since 4:30 with my youngest son. He seems to have some intestinal problems this morning. I'm trying to keep him quiet so everyone else can sleep. He has been extremely difficult to deal with the last few days, and I'm exhausted. Autism. God damned f***ing autism is the greatest disappointment of my life. Damnit GG, you're the best I tell ya. For all you do, this wub's for you.
  16. QUOTE (Xanadude69 @ Jul 23 2011, 01:36 AM)Hope you meant to say "Lady Ga Ga" in the title, please don't insult that Queen song. (Even though that's where she got her stage name from anyway....) I just couldn't force myself to type her name, so I had to roll with Radio.
  17. I didn't know the biotch had it in her. Hate to bring her into TRF but, well, she was in the studio, talking about metal so, don't stone me.
  18. QUOTE (Tarkus406 @ Jul 18 2011, 03:00 PM)Glad you're feeling better, Suse! Sorry to hear about the spoiled weekend, but at least you're alive to enjoy future weekends Now that she's feeling better Tark, break out that good green, 'cause it's time to, bake the Rolz! I told Suze not to be messing around in the 'wee hours' unless it was in chat on TRF! That'll learn ya!
  19. What is even more amazing than Ged dropping the 'f-bomb' is that how much of society still thinks the 'f-bomb' is off limits. lmfao What was that monologue Carlin did years ago, about the 7 words you can never say on TV? Well what do you know, since then, 3 of these words get said on TV, and this forum, on a regular basis! And I'm tellin' ya now it looks like f*ck just might have a chance to be added to that list, making it the 4th word you will occasionally hear on TV. So it looks like society finally caught onto reality in how those 3 words are used, and they aren't really that big of a deal after all now were they? Here are the 4, including the f-bomb, people can look up the other 3 if they want, I won't list them here. lol 1. Shit 2. Piss 3. Tits 4. F*ck Some info from Wiki below on how these 4 have been heard on TV, and this is unedited at Wiki but I know TRF will correct this so no biggie... Some of the words on Carlin's original list have since been used to some degree on broadcast television in the United States. The word tits was uttered on the first episode of The Trials of Rosie O'Neill in 1990, sparking some controversy. It has been also uttered more recently in the popular Jimmy Kimmel video "I'm f***ing Ben Affleck," in which Ben Affleck utters "Hey, Sarah, he's got bigger tits", which originally aired on the After Oscar special of the ABC show Jimmy Kimmel Live after the 80th Annual Academy Awards, all without incident. The word "piss" (usually used in the context of the phrase "pissed off") has been commonplace since the 1980s. The word shit was heard on rare occasions in the 1990s, for the first time in an episode of Chicago Hope spoken by Mark Harmon, and later in the season eight episode of ER in which Dr. Mark Greene dies. The word "shit" was also spoken in several episodes of NYPD Blue. CBS currently airs the show "Shit My Dad Says" based on a Twitter feed but they spell it "S#!T" and pronounce it as "bleep". Producers have often implied the word f**k, although usually obscuring the word with a background sound effect or a beeping sound. One of Carlin's later additions to the list, fart, is also used frequently. Turd is regularly used on broadcast TV, though in performance Carlin explained that you can say it, "but who wants to?" On March 10, 2002, CBS aired "9/11", a prime-time special featuring first responders during the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. It contained a number of utterances of the word "f*ck."[11] One notable early use of this word on American television occurred a few years after Carlin made his list, when the documentary Scared Straight!, which included numerous utterances of the word and its derivatives, was broadcast uncensored. The FCC has often looked at the context of the use of a word when judging whether it is objectionable. This has at times led to controversy, such as when a bureau of the FCC deemed the utterance of the word f*cking (as an intensifier) in January 2003 at the live Golden Globe Awards broadcast by Bono, the front man of the band U2, not indecent under its criteria since they said that under the context of its use it was not intended to describe or depict sexual and excretory activities and organs.[12] The full FCC, however, later reversed the decision in early 2004, though a fine against Bono has not been levied. In December 2003 Congressman Doug Ose, citing the incident, introduced legislation in the US House of Representatives that would have explicitly deemed six of the words profane (tits was excluded but asshole added).
  20. Don't you people know how to beat the heat? Do what they do in Korea, eat dog!
  21. QUOTE (FountainOfSyrinx @ Jul 12 2011, 02:17 AM)i'm pretty sure that they're too professional to do weed now. Ah right, so they can get borderline drunk at a hunting lodge while being filmed for a documentary and still be 'professional', but if they possibly smoke some weed off camera between themselves but still be able to play good music the next day then they aren't 'professional'? Ok then, glad that's cleared up.
  22. QUOTE (Mara @ Jul 9 2011, 11:43 AM)I spent about 15 minutes pulling some weeds and actually got dizzy and had to come in. I thought you were in shape, exercise regularly, and are well hydrated from drinking 3 gallons of liquid a day, yet 15 mins. outside did you in. How is this possible?
  23. QUOTE (sullysue @ Jul 9 2011, 12:26 AM)QUOTE (SiriusRushFan @ Jul 8 2011, 10:28 PM) QUOTE (sullysue @ Jul 8 2011, 09:48 PM)I worked freelance for about 8 years from home. It's not as fun as it seems doing it full time. Motivation gets to be an issue. I actually enjoy getting up and going somewhere else now. It's easy to get cabin fever when you work from home all the time. Some people enjoy a commute to work routine like that. I liked the commute myself but once I got to work it often sucked. It might have been a bit more boring doing freelancing at home, especially since it wasn't a physical type job but, working at the Post Office as a mail carrier like I did for 7 years, delivering to 400 rural mailboxes and also 600 other condo boxes day in and day out, putting up with management's shit too, I am glad to finally sit my ass at home on the computer and enjoy the bliss. That place was burning me out and I am glad I finally made the move to go it alone. Been here for a year and a half now and if I ever get the feeling I need to get out of the house for a bit I just go and come back later, or I can always just carry a laptop with me and do my thing wherever I am. I don't miss anything about my old job except maybe some of the people there that I enjoyed talking to day in and day out. Lost In Xanny, you enjoy that backyard all you can man, while you can, 'cause it's hard to beat! Point taken, and I imagine it does depend upon where you work. Fortunately, I enjoy the people I work with. My actual job is a brain suck. But, being around people I like is the difference. I'm a social person. Being isolated like that wasn't good for me. Ah ya, I can see your point also though. 8 years is a long time to do that. If I had to work 5 days a week at home totally alone with no one to chat with I think it would be a bummer after a while. I have my gaming buddies to talk with on TeamSpeak while I'm working, usually at least 4 or 5 of them on all the time so it's not bad. And my g/f works 4 days on and 4 off so she is always here until at least 5pm or so if she is going into work that day. Carry on and fight the good fight miss Sue!
