  1. I'm just trying to say that, for me, the quality of the songs is not much different from the other albums. I'm just trying not to be swayed by the fact that it was the most successful album (I believe). There very different albums, music-wise, for me actually which is another reason I'm finding it hard to pick. And typically a deeper cut (Your Latest Trick) is one of my faves from BIAs over, say, Money for Nothing which is fun, was successful but not really my favourite from that album. Love the title track though. I mean all these albums have great stuff - Down by the Waterline, In the Gallery, Telegraph Road, Romeo and Juliet, Private investigations, Solid Rock, Tunnel of Love. Dire Knopfl.. I mean Dire Straits just had a good run up to and including BIA for my money (for nothing). Including Communique. Was never that impressed by On Every Street. Must give it another listen some time.
  2. Another band where I only know the 'live'/best of tracks and maybe the odd other album (Thunder in Lightning in particular). How does one keep up with all these bands' output???
  3. Hmmm tricky - personally I don't think there's much between these. Certainly Brothers in Arms isn't the 'best' just because it had a couple of hits.
  4. Gawd - listen to everything up to Empire constantly. Have up to Mindcrime 2 but don't listen to post-Empire that much. And haven't a clue after that. Voting will have to wait until I can be objective about everything.
  5. Thin Lizzy - Emerald Iron Maiden - Prodigal Son Screaming Trees - Dying Days AC/DC - Back in Black Funkadelic - Hit it or Quit it Masters of Reality - Third man on the moon Ben Harper - Glory and consequence Morcheeba - The Sea
  6. So this is the Natural Science thread then? Natural Science Xanadu
  7. And come to the UK with it - also extremely unlikely!
  8. Part of me thinks that all the members including Sammy, Dave, Gary Cherone, Wolfgang and Micheal A etc should all join in with whomever on guitar (or maybe a few git players). That would be cool for me but highly unlikely I believe.
  9. I've heard the Sabbath support story from many people who saw that tour - that VH pretty much blew Sabbath away. To move away slightly from Eddie's impact, you can't discount the fact that they had Dave Lee Roth (presumably) jump kicking and prancing around the stage with his Jim Dandy-to-the-max style as well as having paid their dues playing clubs/gigs in the US (Sunset strip?) for quite a while. Basically, with those songs, Roth's larger than life personality and Eddie's playing I think they would have blown pretty much most bands off the stage at that point. But has anyone really got close to playing like Eddie since? I think Steve Vai (or someone similar) got his hands on one of Eddie's early guitars and basically said that it's not the guitar that makes Eddie's playing, it's all in Eddie's fingers.
  10. Love Dio but I've only got Holy Diver and have stuck to his Rainbow and Sabbath albums which I love. I've delved into a compilation recently of his solo stuff and must check out the albums at some point.
  11. Love Crest and Broadsword so must check out some of the albums ahead of it in the list. Only have Aqua, Minstrel, Thick, Passion and Songs from the rest. Love Thick, Aqua and Songs (from what I can remember - on cassette!). Minstrel was a bit behind but still worth a listen. Passion Play has its moments but can be a hard listen at times. Don't always trust the forum's collective votes but I'm sure most of these albums I haven't heard a worth a listen or 2.
  12. Lars, as far as I deduce from interviews, really wanted to distance himself and them from thrash and branch out. I know they were listening to various other 'rock-type' music like Britpop Oasis stuff (the rockier side of Britpop I guess) and Southern rock amongst other things. Kirk mentioned liking King Crimson too, Thrak in particular, which is kind of KC's metal-ish album. So the direction of Black seemed less of a commercial decision and more of a musical interests type move. Maybe.
  13. Interesting. Thought it might be a Black vs Master showdown at the end. Not sure what I think about Black. Like it but not sure if I like it enough over the others. Soft spot for Ride the Lightning although don't rate Creeping Death near the top of the list - For Whom, Fade and the other 'thrash' tracks (Fight fire with fire) do it more for me. Bit like Permanent Waves Vs Moving Pictures. Love Disposable Heroes, Damage Inc, Battery and Orion on M of P over the other more lauded(?) tracks. Well I know Master of Puppets, the track, is highly thought of but is midway on the album for me. Maybe I just buck the trend for these 'big' tracks. Quite like Death Magnetic and And Justice too even with the controversial mix for the latter. Kill em all a classic but showing it's age over the others methinks....
  14. Tejas and Tres Hombres at the top for me. Eliminator not far behind.
  15. In the Lap of the Gods (revisited) All my 'deep cuts' are there so I can rest easy ;-) Misfire, Dead on Time, In the lap of the Gods (revisited) (not the other one!), Ogre Battle (is it really a deep cut - not sure what are from the 1st 2 albums...) and...The Prophets song!! Yes TPS does go a 'bit weird later on but I love the main thrust of it. Shame it doesn't do anything for ReRushed but we not all born with the same sets of ears, thank goodness. Actually, there's one other missing but I'll see if someone adds it. A few more well known faves are missing too at the moment...
  16. Not listened to much since Afterburner. Not because it's bad per se, just haven't got round to it. Difficult to contribute fairly to this poll (not that it stops some people :P)
  17. Interesting to see Countdown on the list. I quite like the song but it always seems to get a kicking off some of the people on the forum.
  18. Good - I can join in and vote without (knowingly) tipping the scales. Couldn't really decide between them anyway.
  19. Surely Roxanne is taking liberties? Still voted for it though :atickhum: :P
  20. Phew, this is hard. Don't really want to eliminate any. I guess Breaking the rules take FTATR down a bit but I love the rest. Surprisingly for some, Bad Boy Boogie is my least favourite on Let there be rock behind the deep cuts like Overdose, go down and Dog eat Dog. Still a fun track through. The others don't really have any low points as such. Reluctantly elim FTATR :-(
  21. And Memories can't wait - Living Colour (Talking Heads) - improves greatly on the TH version imo. Like THs but that's not a fave song of theirs for me.
