Let's Face It ... The First Set Sucks
1-0-0-1-0-0-1 replied to Necromancer23's topic in On The Lighted Stage
QUOTE (analog guy @ Jul 20 2010, 03:07 PM) QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Jul 20 2010, 01:01 PM) Maybe it's different up in Canada, but in the U.S. "Freewill" is almost never heard on the radio. I have probably heard Freewill played more than any other Rush song on US radio. Even more than Tom Sawyer. Must be a regional thing. I hear Limelight too much as well, to a point where I don't get all that excited about it anymore. I suppose that is the reason for a lot of the setlist angst you see going on here.... any classic rock station in the middle third of the country plays a good chunk of this setlist every day. I'll buy the regional thing. Here in the northeast, we hear the big four on the radio -- "TSOR," "TS," "CTTH" and "Limelight" -- and rarely anything else. -

Last night at ACC Alex had guitar problems

QUOTE (elvtnedge @ Jul 19 2010, 11:16 AM) I put my money on the wireless system. I'm betting the problem was a faulty battery or maybe interference in the signal Yep, it has to be the wireless system. Though I doubt it's a faulty battery -- Alex wouldn't hire and keep using a tech that didn't make sure the electronics had fresh batteries, and didn't make sure the guitars were freshly strung and tuned before a show. Those are Guitar Tech 101 skills. -
QUOTE (Astromancer @ Jul 17 2010, 12:41 AM) QUOTE (Mara @ Jul 15 2010, 09:51 PM) QUOTE (Astromancer @ Jul 15 2010, 10:16 PM) Why did I kill a morning reading every response to this thread? Huh. Why not just remove the genes responsible for bodily hair growth, or fill your pores with hyper-fine resin to prevent the need to rip hot wax off of your skin? Astro - I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you're a guy? (Apologies if I am wrong - I didn't check the profile). Most guys I know prefer women who remove at least the leg and armpit hair, sometimes more. Are you one of those who doesn't give a toss if your GF or wife doesn't bother? If so, you are indeed a rare species. Yup, I'm a dude, although still in high school, and yet to have a GF. Any kind of cosmetic self-alteration that's not a health or safety issue seems trivial considering that the means to preform said alterations did not exist until recent history. I doubt that much hair control went on in ancient cultures like Greece or Feudal Japan, but there are still instances of people being known as beautiful. Sometime in the future it may be normal to bleach all pigmentation out of one's skin, or permanently stretch one's retinas to cover the entire surface of the whites. Whatever float's a time period's boat. Your opinions in the second and third paragraphs might change after you fix what you wrote about in the first.

Rush hates liver? So do I.

QUOTE (Synthetic @ Jul 19 2010, 09:20 AM) Well it wouldn't be a Rush tour without the fanbois whining about something... Personally, I love the song and am surprised they are playing it live. I will wait to see how it turns out, but I do have one question: Since when does Rush really need to worry about 'interrupting the timing' of the setlist? OMFG people, do you truly have nothing else to bitch about? Last tour it was "Whah whah, they are playing all of the SnA songs in a row" and now "Whah whah - that anti-God song is right before the other anti-God song but I can't whine about that so I'll say it breaks the timing of the show"... Ridiculous... Then there are the other broken record horse-beaters "That would've been a great place for Jacob's Ladder or (insert other fanboi favorite here). I will admit - this reading is a bit comical, as I see a pattern here every tour... I think it was Entre Nous last tour that people were split about "It drags down the setlist" or "That'd been a great place for JL"... Comical, yet still pathetic, people... I'm so glad we could entertain you!

QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ Jul 18 2010, 10:27 PM) I saw it last night too. Interesting theme, great visuals, score & cast and I do believe that Nolan is one of the few Hollywood greats BUT...I have to say that I didn't think it was that awesome. In fact, I was slighly disappointed because I have such a high regard for Nolan. I guess I felt that the flick seemed to do too much by piling layer upon layer of dreams & disorientation. (Life the op) I don't want to give away any spoilers either but the end does make you question some things. I think it's one of those films that will get better with repeat viewings. Looks like there's a lot to soak in.

RUDT, you put the song title in the thread title. That's a nice big fat spoiler that anyone can see from the main page, which is exactly how I saw it. Not good.

QUOTE (DallasRUSHian @ Jul 17 2010, 11:46 AM) Does anyone know if Alex's black PRS (that he's had several years) is a 22 or 24 fret? It has 24 frets. He uses it on "Leave That Thing Alone" on this tour because the solo requires a 24-fret guitar to reach those really high notes.

QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Jul 15 2010, 02:56 PM) This thread will not be moved to SOCN. If people are purposely hijacking this thread with political content to try to get it moved or closed, they will be unsuccessful. This thread is staying here, and it's staying open. The only action that might be taken is to split off any off-topic posts into a separate thread, leaving this one on-topic. And open. And this is what we did. All we ask is that we keep this thread focused on the lawsuit. No need to quote this and comment on it. Let's just move forward. Thanks for your cooperation.

QUOTE (Mustard Death @ Jul 16 2010, 04:33 AM) This is by far Nolans best movie, I can't see him ever topping this effort, but I'll be ecstatic if he ever equals it. I really cannot stress how much you all need to go see this, especially on the big screen. Did you just get back from a midnight showing? I like that you thought it was worth the trouble, and glad it lived up to your expectations.

Finally, a movie with a story that isn't a sequel or recycled from spare parts! A movie with *GASP* an original idea! Not that I'm surprised, this IS a Christopher Nolan film. Pretty good showing on RottenTomatoes so far, especially when you consider that 4 of the 5 unfavorable reviews in the Top Critics section (75% positive so far) are, as usual, New York critics. Present a NY critic with a movie that requires some intellect and concentration to appreciate, and they will write a pseudo-intellectual and smarmy review to cover up the fact that they weren't smart enough to get the movie, and to try and convince you why you're not smart enough either. Anyway, I must see this.

QUOTE (CygnusX-1Bk2 @ Jul 15 2010, 06:01 PM) QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Jul 15 2010, 06:20 AM) That little crack in the top by the volume knob -- is that a factor for any of you guys? Does that knock down the value for you at all, to the point where it will affect how high you'll bid? That's it... I am retracting my bid! Actually even after upping my initial bid the reserve has not yet been met. He probably wants at least a granny for it, understandably. I suspect the final will be around $1200 ish. Not sure if I will pony up that much. These are only desirable by certain collectors. Like myself. I would LOVE an HRF, and $1200 for a good one would be money well spent. I don't have a hollow or semi-hollow guitar and that guitar would fill that slot perfectly. But I'm saving for a new MIDI controller so I won't be sniping this one. -
