I thought Face Up deserved more than what Rupert Hine could do with it on RtB. I think it would've fitted better on CP or TfE. Definitely like the solo.

I used to overlook Circumstances - it was just too overshadowed by the rest of the album. But my wife latched onto that song, and I started listening to it more and after it was featured on the SnA Tour, I re-evaluated it and find it enjoyable. Still like The Trees and La Villa more though!

Chain Lightning has been a dark horse for me as well. It was one I tended to overlook initially but now it is one of my favorites from Presto. I always thought Cold Fire was a good solid tune as well. Open Secrets is another dark horse for me. I always skipped it for a long time, but when I am in a certain mood I enjoy it. It is growing on me as time goes by (as is a lot of that album).

Wasn't he in the Distant Early Warning video? No, that's from a quote taken out of context. His son was at the filming and played on the set, IIRC, but did not star in the video. I heard Geddy's son was the naked baby in the pool on the album cover for that other band Dave Grohl was in. I'm pretty sure that wasn't a 10 year-old on the cover...and if it were someone would be in jail. Not necessarily - ask the Scorpions and Blind Faith.

Is this the most obnoxious commercial ever?

I think that was Subway and yes those were odd. -
So was Alex...bet they were recording. Hmmm… didn't know Alex was out there as well. This makes me more nervous than optimistic. It probably went down like this: :Alex: Hey Neil, Geddy and I are coming to California according to plan. :geddy: Yeah Pratt. The plan to feign retirement is working. The fans will freak when we hit the road again. Guaranteed sell outs again! :Neil: Great guys. Remember, I'm not touring again. I told you what my plans were. :Alex: Yeah yeah yeah Neil. :Neil: No. I'm serious this time. I'm DONE! Finito. :geddy: C'mon Neil. We'll even let you ride your motorcycle again. We won't take away your "fun" license. :Neil: Oh alright! TM, its great to have your comedy back on TRF. I have been thinking about how Ged would handle this since the end of R40. As Eagle said, probably its just a phone call. But this may be different. They have invested 40 years together, rose to the heights of their industry together. As flippant as we like to make Neil seem, for him to see his nearly lifelong bandmates write and record with someone else, it may matter to him. To get a heartfelt soulsearching process, an in person discussion may be appropriate. Geddy seems to be a very thoughtful considerate person, and may want something so important discussed in person. Or he just wanted to see the sun set over the Pacific. Double meaning?? So basically to make sure it's cool with Neil if Ged and Al make some music without him as long as they do not call it Rush?

Neil would just call us all a bunch of "netboys" and "netgirls" who waste our time sending our signals around the world, throwing our pointless messages into that cyber sea. And then he would tell us to get off his lawn.

It is one of their less embarrassing videos for sure.

He needed a rhyme for the part about learning to steer by the stars, which he lifted from Oscar Wilde. Guess that was supposed to be a more modern ideal? But yes it is a slightly awkward line in an otherwise cool song.

It's always been about suicide to me, but I think that final verse is about Jesus and how his "sacrifice" can be seen in a different light. I think Neil purposely had a dual meaning in mind here. "Christ...what have you done" to a friend for making the ultimate sacrifice and "Christ....what have you done" by Jesus setting the example of self sacrifice. One of the things I love about Neil. He does this dual meaning thing quite often. Okay then I wasn't far off base after all. :-)
-
I used to think the song was directed at Jesus and Neil was reprimanding him for becoming a martyr. The "Christ what have you done" line sealed it for me. Then I found out it was about suicide and figured I wasn't too far off base. Now it has a duel meaning for me.

Where they the same moments taken from the original Star Wars? ;) No, it's not a virtual rewrite like most early Beatles songs, after all. I think that's Zeppelin, not the Fab Four. :D (Actually I like Zep a lot!)

Well, this thread was doomed regardless of how sincere the question was. Yeah but it seems like so many threads turn out this way regardless of the original subject. "Seems like" but not truly. I've visited a dozen+ threads in the last half hour and none of them have become name calling arenas. I'm just talking about since I've been a member here. I've seen it happen so many times and it just gets worse when there's no tour or album coming up. Now that they're retired it's just stayed that way. The most innocuous threads sink to name calling. I'm talking about the big picture. What percentage of threads got to name calling? 50%? 20%? 10%? No, probably not even 5%. Are 5 threads out of 100 a lot? I don't know if it is. I do know that there are fewer instances of name calling than 10 years ago. You're overthinking this. Not really. I'm telling you you're finding too many negative points and forgetting all the normal, non-name calling conversations you've had and have read on here. This place wouldn't have survived this long if it were as gloomy as it's sometimes painted. I think shes only reading threads where Tony gets mad. Or appears at all. I obviously don't read every thread on here but there has been a lot of negativity going on for the past year or so. There's a good reason that so many people have left. Yes but there are so many new people that have come to the forum. Some have even returned from long droughts. Its just the nature of the internet. Oh really? I hadn't noticed too many new people. ................ What am I chopped liver?

Welp, that just confirms that Rush is indeed not metal. Thus speaketh the mighty Gedster! All hail!

Rush's last two albums [GuP and Signals] have shown a refined, sophisticated sound. But a lot of people still view Rush as a heavy metal band. I don't really deny it; that's where our roots were-no question about it. We always called ourselves a hard rock band, even way back when heavy metal was first starting, because it just seemed more suitable for what we were doing. We've always been hard to categorize, and people love categorizing bands. We always called ourselves progressive hard rock … I don't think very many heavy metal fans would agree if you called us heavy metal. Geddy Lee, Guitar Player, Apr 1986

For opinions to be valid at TRF they must conform with those of long time members with high post counts. Rookie. Quite right, John Rogers. If not, you're :smash: into submission. If that fails, Mick has a serum that works. I guess I need my dose of :smash: . :D

I saw it in the theater and found it a vast improvement over the prequels, but I also understood the critique that it was a little too much like A New Hope, rewritten. However, I think that was more a course correction than an attempt to rewrite the first film. Now that they have regrounded the franchise, I expect to see the next films taking more chances. But TFA is a good film. I plan to get it on DVD next week.

Ahhh okay JohnRogers, thanks for the clarification. :-)

Tony R - I don't feel I am a blinded fan boy. I just feel Rush embody the definition of being progressive in a way that other bands are not. As I said, that's my personal view and personal definition, and distinct from the more popular usage of the word. But to each his own. :-)
