    Clothes

Old school punker here, so my civies are rock t shirts and camo shorts or cargo shorts. Shirts come from concerts...like, I have litterally never bought a t shirt other than at a concert, or biking event. Pants from Kohls or thrift store. Last time I bought shorts was 7 or 8 years ago. I only own 2 pairs of Levi's jeans since I wear shorts in the winter time as well. I like to dress comfortable, and am not usually worried about what I look like The most "indulgent" I guess I am is in my Chuck Taylor shoe collection. this is definitely in homage to Geddy!!! I have over 70 pairs in differnt colors or patterns. Hi tops only. Now, probably 30 of them are from the late 70's to late 80's when they were cheap. The "pre-Nike" Chuck's. Most of them have been B-day or Christmas gifts since then. More than half have duct tape covering holes or keeping soles on. I also have my 17 year old Doc Martens....and my Teva's for camping I have 2 jackets: my Ohio State Hockey hoodie that my friend gave me in 97, and my black army flight jacket that I also got in the late 90's. Both are covered in punk band patches, buttons etc...I also still have my thrasher 80's jeans jacket wit hthe Iron Maiden back patch, and all of the buttons from that era. It is covered in spikes and chains. I wear that sometimes as well.... I am a teacher, so I (unfortunately) have to wear dress clothes to work. As far as these go, I always hit Kohls. Levi's are the only pants that I feel comfprtable in - it has been this way for 30+ years, so I buy them b/c of that. Not b/c of the name. So it is Dockers for dress pants. Shirts are whatever broadcloth no iron shirt I like the color of. I thnik I have 7 pairs of pants and about 9 dress shirts. Granted...the last time I bought a new shirt or pant was 4 years ago. I tend to wear clothes out. So, the only brand I seek out is Chuck Taylor. I definitely spend more time and buy for a brand with my hockey gear then my clothes.
  2. these are my happy places: ^^^^ other than a Rush show, this is heaven for me.... http://kevindenhamphotography.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Cherry-Valley-Ontario-1.jpg ^^^^ I would be on my Surly ECR heading down that trail to camp somewhere.... http://www.mightymac.org/10mackinaw00.JPG I am a cold weather person for sure...anything above 50(F) is too warm for me... as far as my mancave goes, I v'e gotta get back in my house in August to get that going...pics to come
  3. sxetnrdrmr sXe: is a reference to the Straight Edge movement in punk rock...no drinking, smoking, doing drugs etc. I have been Straight Edge since I first heard Minor threat back in 81. Have always been into underground punk, metal...any thing fast and loud tnrdrmr: stands for tenor drummer. I am also a band/drum corps geek, and the tenor drums (quads, quints etc.) are my most favorite to play. I am a percussion instructor for my 9-5, and have been playing drums since 1st grade (1976). So we have Straight Edge Tenor Drumer, or sxetnrdrmr
  4. I always go between this and LAkeside PArk being my most favorite songs. It is a tough call. NS definitely has ALL of the key elements of Rush in it: great lyrics; heavy metal parts; quiet acoustic guitar parts; sound effects; odd times; differnt style feels; musical phrases that TOALLY support what the words are implying...I could go on... I guess I think of it this way: when people ask me wha tmy most favorite Rush song is, I say Lakeside Park. When they ask me wha tthe quintessential Rush song is, I say Natural Science
  5. I have a feeling that they will release singles on their own pace, rather then compile a full album. Scratch the itch when they need to, but not have to commit to the time it takes to produce a full length. i also see them playing small house shows for all of their loyal fans....on their birthdays...so mine will be June 9th in the next couple of years or so. ;)
  6. I would go with Lakeside Park ,_ my most favorite song by them b/c of what it is saying I Think I'm Going Bald (more funny than happy?) and then what a lot of others have said
  7. Just saw them in Columbus. It was a clinic!! Don't want to give things away, but 3rd song in was un godly! NO BAND EVER has or will ever touch what these guys have done, and can do. Especially now at their age....un freakin beleivable....there will never ever be a musical group with the streak that they have going for as longas they have at the same quality point
  8. I did mean more in spirit and attitude than actual sound. In my wolrd from a sound stand point, they were blues rock (Rush) -> prog-hard rock (Fly By Night - Permanent Waves) -> hard rock (Moving Pictures - Signals) -> new wave (GUP - Roll The Bones) -> hard rock (Presto - Counterparts) -> rock (Test For Echo Snakes and Arrows) and I thought that CA was the closest they have been to hard rock since Moving Pictures minus the over-compressed production They are definitely closer to metal than, say Kansas was in the 70's, but no where near Black Sabbath or Motorhead in that description for the era. I feel like MP was the closest they came to having a metal sound at the time that other strictky metal badns were around..ie Maiden, Ozzy, Sabbath with Dio. I think the biggest thing that kept them out of the metal bin for realz was the lack of the "chugga-chugga", muted E or A string driving rhythmic sound that was common with Maiden, Priest etc. Lifeson is definitely an "open chord" kind of guy. to me the song Driven and Stick It Out were the 2 songs closest to metal
  9. I have always considered Rush a quintesencial PUNK band really....Why? Because from the start, they were always saying "F it....we are doing what we want". When going from the first album to Fly By Night...they told the rec execs to F off and wrote longer songs with less "freindly" hooks....Caress Of Steel? Total F you to what was being expected, and demanded....same with 2112 To me everythign about them was punk...more punk than the corporate drones of the time like The Ramones or The Sex Pistols.... think of the (often dreaded) "Synth Era".... they wanted to go tha troute...everybody else told them that the yshouldn't...and they did anyway...lost tons of "fans", gained and/or kept true followers they are the Anti-rockstars....when they totally deserve the designation as ULTIMATE rock stars. Not exploiting and abusing "The Limelight"....staying out of the public eye and only lending their time and names to things that the ydeemed important. I HATED it when they got nominated to the Rock and Roll HOF....I was always proud that they were not lumped in with all of that mainstream corporate idiocy... their music definitely crosses some genre boundries, but the yhave always been punk rockers underneath...I got into them in the late 70's when they were in the category of groups like Styx, Kansas, Yes....hard/progressive rock. I was...well, still am, an 80's metal head at heart, and Rush always fit into my listening pallette along side Maiden, Slayer, Mercyful Fate, Queensryche, Fates Warning, Minor Threat, Exodus, Suicidal Tendencies, Circle Jerks....they all had the same attitude
  10. I always felt that the "synth era" started when Ged's hands would leave the bass to play a synth part (while feet filled out the bass role on the Moog Pedals). In my eyes this would definitely be Signals for sure, though there are pics of sunths on his side of the stage as far back as Farewell To Kings. As of last nights concert in Columbus, I think we are still in the synt hera...it is just now handled by sequencers.... I am also probably in the 1% who does not dislike any of the traditional "synth albums" - Signals to Roll TheBones in my book. Rush was doing exactly what made them near and dear to my heart...and that is saying F You to everyone and doing what they want total PUNK ROCK!!!!
  11. Hmm...would like to hear them do: Jerry Was A Race Car Driver - Primus Where Eagles Dare - Iron Maiden anything by Fates Warning anything off of Blood Sugar Sex Magic by RHCP Kindergarten - Faith No More
