  1. Seriously, this video might be the most brilliant thing they've ever done....so many layers. Turn in your Rush card. I think it's ironic, too. I think it's sort of bad-on-purpose. The way the audience is rawkin' out in a cheesy sort of way. Anyway, this video isn't as bad as Afterimage, which is one of the hidden videos on Chronicles.

  3. Agreed. Gotta be Zanny as one of their masterpieces, it has it all. The song gives me the chills each and every time I listen to it. If I ever saw them do the complete song in concert, I would surely think I had died and gone to heaven, and would want the moment to last forever and forever. :) Do you have the video of Exit Stage Left? Xanadu on that is very cool. Yes. ESL is, for that fact, my favorite live concert DVD. Xanadu, and Alex and his little red shoes. I'm always impressed by how quickly Alex hits the toggle switch on that double-neck guitar and switches from the twelve string to the six string.

  10. Nothing will make Tai Shan sound like essential Rush. Tai Shan is one of those personal spiritual experiences that should have remained deeply personal. If China sings to you, frickin' keep it to yourself, maybe. Sorry, I think that's as pissy as I'm likely to get. It's getting late and I still haven't finished grading these @#$%&*! papers. Maybe I should get off the forum. Does this thing suck hours away from everybody else's life?
  11. To return to the question—in another post (somewhere) I sort of referred to Signals as the end of the Era of Rush Majesty, or something like that. But I do include it in that period. I totally love Signals—got it for Christmas (thanks, Mom) and played it endlessly, especially the Weapon. I appreciate Signals for another reason, which is that it is that sort of transitional album leading into a newer and differently exciting sort of Rush. I was a confirmed fan by the time of Signals, and while I admit it took me longer and longer to warm to every new album, my "Rush ear" always located what I was looking for, for the most part. I do remember trying to imagine how cool some of the songs would sound without synths. Which brings me to another notion. I know we've been told that there is no hidden vault of unreleased Rush tunes (that's what we've been told), but I think it would be cool to release alternate mixes—the "no synths" mix of some tunes would be a whole new playground, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, there would be some holes, but I'd love to hear them. A box set that would sell, I think.
  12. I see you mostly like to group tunes together from the same era (roughly) with a couple of exceptions. I guess it would be kind of weird to have early screechin' raw Rush mixed with later stuff.
  13. It's not possible to purchase this download (without buying the album)? I thought about buying the LP anyway, just for old time's sake. I miss the vinyl days. Big ol' album sleeves. Still have all my old Rush gatefold album covers.

Peart has always been a bit fan-shy, but I don't think he would resent anyone saying to him, "because of you I learned to play the drums, so thanks for being so inspiring." A number of years ago a buddy of mine told me that he approached Neil in a cafe and said, "Hey, aren't you Neil Peart?" The response: "Never heard of him." It is possible, of course, that it wasn't Neil Peart... He should have said to Neil after that: "Not many people have heard of him, but you do resemble him." Neil gets angry when he's recognized, and befuddled when he's not. Poor Neil. Interesting—is that documented?

Your . . . stuff is just . . . so . . . awesome." No. I'm too old to gush. Simply: "Thank you. And please thank Neil for me as well." Neil might even pop in to meet you.... :) Neil's long gone. Apparently he runs faster even than Brittney Spears at the end of a show...

  21. Not resentful of those willing (and able to afford) to pay, but a bit resentful of a system that makes the experience so exclusive. Put it this way: if I have the cash for a front row seat—however much it is—I'd like the same chance to score one as everyone else. But if a huge whack of them are snapped up by corporations as "perks" for "guests"--often people who don't give a damn about the band—then my chances diminish.
  22. I wonder if Terry Brown would have tried steering Lifeson and Lee away from all the layered, textured stuff. Just double the guitar parts and keep it simple. What would Vapor Trails have sounded like more stripped down, for example.
  23. You were the lucky one. The Flock Of Seagulls, ponytail, Daniel Boone hat era's are not my thing..... :) Superconductor is not my thing. It is amazing to me how glorious they can sound and how... not glorious... they can sound on the same album. Well, they can't all be gems. This is Geddy's Yoko period, isn't it? Geddy had more style changes, it seems. Lifeson had the Stevie Nicks thing happening, then was sort of New Wave dude until he became Golf Dad.
  24. Maybe....I don't know. When I got my front row tickets I waited outside in the middle of winter all night in front of Karma Records. I definitely earned them:) Yes you did. That kind of thing I'm totally okay with—the devoted fan who foregoes comforts to score the good seats. It's the sad stories of people who wait all night only to find those seats were never available that I'm talking about.
