  1. Sorry buddy, but I have to agree with Mr. Not. We can't have everyone going over three or the poll won't be accurate. Pick your top three in any way you can, and vote only for them.
  2. It was tough for me to find a third one, cuz of the four of my top five favorite bands eligible for the poll, only two made it. I obviously voted for Queen and Genesis, but the last decision was a pretty major toss up between LZ, Yes, The Beatles, and probably The Who...after much though, The Beatles are more likely to satisfy me at any given time than LZ or The Who, and they don't get old anywhere near as fast as Yes.
  3. Here it is! Vote for your favorite three bands out of the choices above!!!
  4. Final List! I have decided completely subjectively that bands with three or more votes are qualified for the poll. Two or fewer will not be making an appearance. Led Zeppelin - 8 Ozzy-Black Sabbath / Black Sabbath - 7 Pink Floyd - 6 Jethro Tull - 6 Yes - 6 Porcupine Tree - 5 Genesis - 5 The Beatles - 4 The Who - 4 Queen - 3 King's X - 3 Frank Zappa - 3 Iron Maiden - 3 Deep Purple - 2 Judas Priest - 2 Pearl Jam - 2 R.E.M. - 2 Kiss - 2 The Clash - 2 Muse - 1 Lita Ford - 1 Nightwish - 1 Sonata Arctica - 1 Lacuna Coil - 1 Van Halen - 1 Dream Theater - 1 Uriah Heep - 1 Thin Lizzy - 1 Radiohead - 1 Def Leppard - 1 Cheap Trick - 1 Nirvana - 1 Beck - 1 Van Der Graf Generator - 1 T. Rex - 1 The Police - 1 The Moody Blues - 1 AC/DC - 1 The Guess Who - 1 INXS - 1 David Bowie - 1 Tom Waits - 1 Captain Beefheart - 1 Dead Boys - 1 AKB48 - 1 The Wildhearts - 1 The Rolling Stones - 1 Eagles - 1 Elton John - 1 Billy Joel - 1 Alice In Chains - 1 Queensryche - 1 Bob Marley & The Wailers - 1 Tom Petty - 1 Kingston Wall - 1 Opeth - 1 Foo Fighters - 1 U2 - 1 Riverside - 1 Bad Religion - 1 Midnight Oil - 1 King Crimson - 1
  5. yea i have to be honest and say out of all the "classic" prog bands. as a whole......Yes ranks among my least favs but my when they did something right......Yes album, Close to the Edge........it's pure Gold. i just find their discography, as a whole, Wildly inconsistant.. Mick ELP I find more unique, Floyd I find more consistent, Crimson I've yet to really explore, Genesis I love to death, and Tull are the only ones who really annoy me with Ian's nonstop blabbering about how he hates religion (of course, of really only listened to Aqualung, so maybe that's not always the norm). It wouldn't take much to convince me that I agree with your sentiment, lol. But Close To The Edge though....ugh, magic. Plus, why did no one tell me the gatefold artwork on the inside is so much more amazing than the actual cover, lol. EDIT: and let's not forget I love Rush even more to death than Genesis, lol. ;)
  6. I may have to revise my statement. I just got Close To The Edge on vinyl...this one doesn't wear off. It might actually be my fav ahead of The Yes Album. Yes have two utterly perfect albums and a number of good ones.
  7. I've always thought and still do, a Rock and Roll hall of fame should have a set definition for what musical genre (not attitude, not style, not of that other stuff) defines Rock and Roll. If they want to put Tupac in, it should be called the Popular Music Hall Of Fame...or why not just the Musicians' Hall Of Fame?
  8. In the past few days, major accidental scores on vinyl whilst Christmas shopping. Santana III Close To The Edge
  9. And if I go off of favorite songs from each band... The Chain vs. Hotel California... It's gotta be Hotel California, everything about it is perfect.
  10. i've come to decide. The Eagles have never annoyed me, Mac occasionally do. Eagles it is.
  11. I'll leave this up for one more day. I know there's some folks who haven't contributed yet.
  12. I read a comment somewhere I agree with. Joe Perry's facial hair should be taking a farewell tour, or better yet it should just say farewell without the tour. Really hope they continue their last tour into the states though, wouldn't be right if they didn't.
  13. Bohemian Rhapsody Supper's Ready ...that's all I know
  14. There's a shocking amount of awful music out there to be exposed to, I don't care to rank how much I hate each track.
  15. Both, there's not much of a difference. Pop isn't a very well defined genre, it's usually just the commercialization of some other genre or combination. They'd be filed under pop/rock at Walmart, but I think of them as surf rock for my own purposes.
  16. Thank you all again! Glad to know you all enjoyed it. :)
  17. I must beg to disagree. TFA was a crowd pleaser for sure, but I didn't notice it sacrificing anything particularly notable in order to crowd please so darn well. Certainly the most emotional response I've ever had to a movie was at TFA. Rogue One is excellent, but not quite perfect enough for me to push it ahead of TFA.
  18. Time to take a tally. Keep posting. 3-5 pages should be enough. Ozzy-Black Sabbath / Black Sabbath - 6 Pink Floyd - 6 Led Zeppelin - 5 Jethro Tull - 5 Yes - 4 Queen - 3 King's X - 3 Genesis - 3 Frank Zappa - 3 The Who - 3 Porcupine Tree - 2 Iron Maiden - 2 Kiss - 2 The Beatles - 2 Muse - 1 Lita Ford - 1 Nightwish - 1 Sonata Arctica - 1 Lacuna Coil - 1 Van Halen - 1 Dream Theater - 1 Uriah Heep - 1 Thin Lizzy - 1 Pearl Jam - 1 Radiohead - 1 Def Leppard - 1 Cheap Trick - 1 Nirvana - 1 Beck - 1 Van Der Graf Generator - 1 T. Rex - 1 The Police - 1 The Moody Blues - 1 AC/DC - 1 The Guess Who - 1 INXS - 1 David Bowie - 1 Deep Purple - 1 Tom Waits - 1 Captain Beefheart - 1 Dead Boys - 1 AKB48 - 1 The Wildhearts - 1 The Rolling Stones - 1 Eagles - 1 Judas Priest - 1 Elton John - 1 Billy Joel - 1 Alice In Chains - 1 Queensryche - 1 R.E.M. - 1 Bob Marley & The Wailers - 1 Sabbath and Floyd tied for the lead, with Led Zep and Tull trailing close behind. This tally was taken based off of the screen last updated at about 6:47 EST on 2112 day.
  19. Nice write up!! I love the cover of Wind & Wuthering. One of my all time favorites! Thanks! Yeah, I've grown to appreciate WaW's cover art, but I still won't say it's great. Plus the cover art fits the album's music extremely well. Yeah, it's perfect to fall asleep too! :P Actually I do agree though. And the font is better for WaW than the font on England is for its contents. Why, why, why is it just some basic labeling font after Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot? Why? Great picture though.
  20. I picked up Force It earlier this year, listened to it once while barely paying attention. Solid, but it didn't catch my ear. I suppose I'll relisten sometime.
  21. Alrighty, now's the time for everyone to participate. List your top three favorite artists that aren't Rush, or three of your all time favs that aren't Rush. The bands that have the most mentions after necessary time for posting has passed (and a great deal of posts to work with) will be entered into a new topic with a poll and we'll vote on TRF's favorite band! (That isn't Rush) Here's mine! Queen, Muse, Genesis Let the games... Begin.
  22. A Farewell To Kings deserves a mention. As it always does because no one ever seems to mention it. One of my top ten Rush songs actually.
