  1. I thought you were much older until recently and have always found your posts insightful. Same here. I assumed a latter years uni student a year or two AGO. So yeah I guessed wrong by about 4-5 years Lol, nice to know I come off so intelligently. Maybe now that the truth's out though, I aught to dumb it down. :P dab dab dab :P Well, I didn't say "so intelligently". :poke: Ah I get it... http://www.roxie.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/bluto-614x330.jpg Is your grade point average 0.0? Depends on how hard you squint. :P

  3. Reminds me of a certain other band whose first album was rather derivative and whose second was a total classic due to a single lineup change...

  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4bftQ4xxFc Okay duck, as I've told you before, every TRFer is a Marvel character whether they know it or not. This is you and all that he entails http://www.dialbforblog.com/archives/695/asm9electro.jpg You probably like that but really, this thread needs some superheroes. If I'm Spidey then who's the HULK??? Who types with massive amounts of capitalization and power? Who has the strength to withstand anything the board can throw at them and then some? Who might come off as a big angry giant but is actually very nice and awesome? Earl.
  6. I thought you were much older until recently and have always found your posts insightful. Thanks! My post count may be relatively low, but I try to make most of them really count for something. Glad to know that's appreciated! :D
  7. That's more disturbing than Black Sabbath actually were in 1970.
  8. ...eat cat, too! :haz: Dog eat cat Cat eat mouse Mouse eat cheese Cheese eat...what do cheese eat? :P
  9. Age limits? I came to the forum when I was, what, 15 or 16 maybe? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think I've been a particularly bothersome presence here, even those few years ago. Maybe that's just because I tend to keep my personal life to myself, didn't even give my age on here till my last birthday. Idk, I just felt like pointing out you don't have to be an adult to be relatively mature in an online community like this. I certainly don't feel like much of an adult. But everyone is different and I hope GNP sorts themself out soon and finds all the support at home and with friends they need to live and post confidently in the future. I do really enjoy having more young Rush fans around here like me and GNP has a great personality and a beautiful passion for Rush and music.
  10. Why is it funny? They are probably, beginning to end, the best two Floyd albums. More like interesting I guess. I don't disagree; those are my favorite two Floyd albums (and the only really essential ones in my life). However, it's really interesting to see how opinions on even WYWH and The Wall are very much split in this community, though in general they receive as much, or more, praise as Animals and DSOTM by critics and fans alike. Maybe it's a Rush fan thing to be attracted to Animals and Dark Side, or maybe it's just a coincidence. I think it's neat/interesting/funny nonetheless. On this forum Wish You Were Here and The Wall have critics. I am one of them. Other that "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", I think Wish You Were Here is mediocre Floyd, plus overplayed. The Wall is brilliant in spurts, but overall its incoherent and threaded with half ideas. I tend to be one of those critics as well (well, I may have gotten a bit more into The Wall recently), but what I find interesting is that such a trend of criticism for those two and such a trend of love for the other two even exist here, being a bit different from the general trends outside this forum.
  11. Sick As A Dog rules. Giving The Dog A Bone I only find enjoyable in context of its album, and the other one I haven't heard.

  13. Funny, everyone seems to love Animals and Dark Side.
  14. I actually did already know this, as I've been doing a lot of "research" on the big four as of late (well, less so on Slayer), but thanks for telling me anyway! I'm glad they got Joey back in the past few years, but it seems a little like they got him back more because he's the right singer for the music and less for his personality. They also got Joey back because it means more money. With Joey they can fill venues in the 1,000 - 2,000 range with no problem. By the time John left the band they were probably losing money. I saw them when they toured for We've Come For You All and they were playing some shit dive bar (which was closing down at the time) that only could fit maybe 250 - 300 people if that. Excellent show though. I think it being super intimate like that helped a lot. There was some dude at the front that was headbanging so hard and fast when they played N.F.L. that i'm pretty sure his head was bouncing off the stage. If you ever see them live and don't want to get caught in a mosh, stay towards the back of the venue. The last time I saw them on the Worship Music tour, the whole floor became a huge circle pit when they played the old stuff. I'm not a mosher but it really was one of the best things I ever saw at a metal show. During songs like Among, Caught In A Mosh, Indians and Madhouse at least 90 percent of the venue turned into a mosh pit. Yeah, I don't picture myself doing well with a mosh, would be cool to see them live though! Too bad they aren't closer with Joey, but whatever works I guess, as long as everyone is happy.

  16. Here's a place to rank the albums by the most underappreciated of the big four of thrash metal! I've still only heard one, but I love it! 1. Among The Living 2-11. Tbd
  17. Rush are associated with virtuosity and progressive rock, which much of society find synonymous with the label "pretentious." Simple as that.
  18. Howdy! Nice to have a new member! I'm the son of a teacher, so excuse while I mention I think your profession is about the most essential and respectable and underappreciated job in the world, especially when it comes to the arts and humanities. Also, I'm a college architecture student, so art is awesome! Happy posting, SB!
  19. I'm 18. I don't use any social media outside of this site and a couple other small forums. I never have, and I likely never will. I enjoy imagining myself becoming somewhat famous as an architect or musician or author and still refusing to get a Facebook on principle, seeing how people deal with it. I don't take selfies on principle. I have conceded to doing so a couple of times on trips and things, but otherwise I avoid them because they annoy me and my mom believes they are narcissistic, which I get. I'm definitely introverted, though I have some very extroverted characteristics. I do find it easier to communitcate with certain people via e-mail or messaging, but not to the point where I break down in person or just can't connect. Also, I never find texting my close friends to be equivalent to actually hanging out with them. I texted one of my high school friends last night in a pretty deep conversation; I still miss hanging out with him. I called another one of my high school friends the other night and had a great conversation with him; I miss him even more now. I hate watching the news because it's always so full of tragedy and I still hate to hear about all the horrible things that go on in the world each day. Perhaps I'm less informed, and perhaps I might come off as insensitive, but I also like to think I'm a more optimistic and happily dispositioned person. That does sound ironic since assuming the news is nothing but bad news is a pretty pessimistic point of view, but I do enjoy some healthy cynicism in my life for fun (and reality checks). Am I desensitized to tragedy? For example, I can't remember a time when 9/11 wasn't reality, though I was born a few years before it. To me, that kind of tragedy, though usually on a smaller scale, is a bit of a given. Much as I wish it wasn't, it is. I've been exposed to it as reality enough that I just prefer not to think about that. So perhaps that's desensitization, and perhaps it's still just more than I care to process each day. Do I feel left out of the loop because I'm not on social media? Sometimes, yes, and sometimes, not so much. For example, if I want to find a sub for a shift at work, I have to go through a more complex process of asking about via e-mail and phone calls than simply posting in the Facebook group. Solution? Don't put myself in situations where I need to miss work, probably a good idea anyway. Also, as opposed to the groupme texting chats (which I'm not opposed to since it's just chat and not full social media) used by many groups on campus for mass communication, my fellow freshmen architecture majors have a Facebook group which I'm not a part of. Do I feel out of the loop there? Yeah, sometimes people's relationships will change or there will be some joke I'm just not getting, but since I see those people most every day anyway, I'm never too far from "getting it" (plus I've never been one to think it's my place to know about other people's relationships). So, by excluding myself from social media, there are some things where I'm a little left out. However, in my world, e-mail is the only truly important electronic communication tool. If there's something I really need to know, 98% of the time it will be in an e-mail, and the other times I can find out in person from a friend. I have friends who don't interact with messages and online communication tools even as much as me, and as far as I know they get along just fine (aside from some of their friends being annoyed at not being able to contact them easily). But I'm a special case. Most people my age are using Facebook, Twitter, snap-chat, Instagram, and all else religiously, while taking plenty of selfies and doing all the things which I avoid because I don't want to deal with them and view them with suspicion. You know what the greatest thing about that is? Most people my age that I've encountered...they're pretty fine folks to tell you the truth. They care, they're often open minded, the socialize easily, they tend to reach out when they have problems, they have opinions on the world and is news, they're learning and growing and becoming what they want to be. Are things perfect for them and myself? Heck no! We're super stressed, often overstimulated, addicted to the Internet, and so much else...but we're still pretty fine people if you ask me, and we get along alright, and we're just learning to cope with information and socialization overload like everyone else. Vinyl sales are still rising; the majority is never the whole story.
  20. The ones I've heard: Animals (personal, cinematic, uncompromising, complex, catchy, not overwrought, simple, conceptual, exciting, and fun) Dark Side Of The Moon (classic) The Wall (much better than I remember it, relistened recently with more intent, incredible album, just not my fav) Wish You Were Here (not personal enough, not thrilling enough...but excellent nonetheless) Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (should relisten...was, interesting) The Endless River (listened once as I tried to sleep on a plane...I'd like to think it did help me sleep, though I only slept for about twenty minutes, but alas, I got through most of the album before I finally got some sleep...I was on a plane though)
  21. Petty has the better song, as he often does. Floyd made some great music with theirs though, but I just don't think it's got enough to it's song form. Of course, Learn To Fly blows both of them out of the water. Foo Fighters ftw.
  22. No no. This album is about walls: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51GtHoLrzcL._SL500_AA300_.jpg No no no, that album is about a fictitious rock star named Pink who pretty much goes insane from cutting off his ability to empathize (or even sympathize) with others. Now THESE records are on walls: :P
