  1. Lacuna Coil: Karmacode (about a year, now my all time favourite) Unleashed Memories (a couple of years, now another favourite) Comalies (a long time to appreciate fully) Worth noting LC are my all time number one band. Rush: Permanent Waves (failed to hear greatness for months) A Farewell To Kings/Hemispheres (that voice...I shuddered before I learned to love) Grace Under Pressure (now I adore it) Fleetwood Mac: Tusk (believe it or not, after months and months, I played it again and it all clicked into place. Love every track) Khoma: The Second Wave (I think this swedish band is the most underrated ever. Partly because this masterpiece takes a few listens to fully appreciate) Jimmy Eat World: Clarity Bruce Springsteen: Born To Run (for a long time, I thought this was one of The Boss' weaker records. Now its close to the top for me!) Pretty much all these albums are in my Top Ten in a collection of over 300 albums from a myriad genres.
  2. Well...ABIII is the sort of album I love, but Fortress loses mainly due to Bleed It Dry and a few slightly ordinary Alter Bidge numbers. Bu itis pprobably still growing on me! The production is miles better than ABIII as well, forgot to mention that! The songs have room to breathe, and they lack the dense wall of sound approach that made ABIII take over a year to fully grow on me (once it did I fell in love)
  3. For me, the verse is good, the chorus good, but they don't work together well. Its like a mash up of two very different songs, with a bizarre chill out solo thrown into what is essentially a standard thrashy metal number. Although I like all the songs on this album a lot, I still feel it is missing a little something. This is an 8/10 rather than the 9/10 I gave ABIII. Really frustrating, as I sense so much greatness on Achilles, Addicted, Lover and Calm the Fire. Fortress is a good track but it lacks the emotion of the similar Blackbird. The Uninvited is a very good track, not great. Same goes to Peace, Farther, Cry and All Ends Well. I still think its great, but not the masterpiece that its predecessor was!
  4. All Ends Well is good, but I think they have many better ballad type songs: Breathe Again, Life Must Go On and Watch Over You stand out for me as being better than AEW. Saying that, I think Bleed It Dry is my least favourite, but I still really like it! However, the more I listen to Fortress the more I feel they could do better. I think the potential is already there for a monumental fifth release!
  5. Well...I have no kids but I can assure you my dads son has amazing taste! He says that Rush are one of the greatest bands he has ever heard, and wishes more people would turn to them and ignore silly rock bands other people his age adore like Linkin Park, Coldplay, Limp Bizkit and Lostprophets. After all, he says, who will still care about them when they turn forty? He believes they are equal to Led Zeppelin and a worthy competitor to The Beatles. In fact, he may prefer them to both! On the other hand he adores Bruce Springsteen and Toto...so go figure... silly Segue.
  6. Well, according to the majority of the fans I know and online fansites, ABIII is accused of being overproduced and littered with filler. Shocks me, I think it is a masterpiece. I am no fan of creed but One Day Remains (Alter Bridges debut, and most creed-like album) is all kinds of amazing to my ears, so I put most of my dislike of creed down to Scott Tapp. Man, his voice is dreadful. But the songwriting and lyrics of this record blow me away, and Find The Real and Burn It Down are two of my all time favourite rock songs. Blackbird is a great album, but I find most of the songs pale in comparison to the majority of ABIII (obviously I am no talking about the prfection that is the title track). It is my least favourite. Fortress has simply blown me away, but it lacks the dark edge of ABIII that I love so much. Which is cool. We all have our preferences! Has anyone heard Tremonti's solo album? I can't decide if it is worth getting.
  7. I have never listened to Anathema. But I think they are amazing. Without ever even listening to one song. Am I a freak?
  8. I LOVE TOTO! But yeah...I feel like I shouldn't. Fahrenheit and Tambu are two of my all time favourite albums. However, as for The Eagles...I don't get it. The music is so lifeless! I try, but unlike Fleetwood Mac, they have no pesonality! And the music always sounds like someone is performing in another room. Nah, not my cup of tea. Back to ABBA...Anyone heard Watch Out? ABBA could do rock surprisingly adequately...hardly up to Rush or Led Zep standards ( Rock me is a disgusting attemp at rock), but this song has good energy and decent riffs...and Bjorn is quite aggressive vocally!
  9. Everyone should lobe Bruce Springsteen! Arg...I love Bruce. Bruce bruce bruce... Worst songs...any five by boyband McFly... Oh...and
  10. I'm glad you lov the passion! I also love Toto... (Awaiting the hatemail)
  11. Alter Bridge have released an amazing album, Cry Of Achilles, Lover and the title track are amongst the finest songs they have ever done, and I would go as far as to say that Cry Of Achilles is the rock song of the year! But, despite its low ranking with the majority of the fanbase, ABIII is my absolute favourite, with Blackbird finishing last. One day remains and fortress are fighting somewhere in the middle!
  12. I would definitely have bought Grace Under Pressure (I dont get this ones, but it is beautiful all the same) and Caress Of Steel (I just love it!) based on artwork. Add to that list Moving Pictures and A Farewell To Kings. I would have avoided Signals, Hemispheres, Power Windows, 2112 and Rush. I learned to love most of the art along with the music. However, Signals and Power Windows are a little too strange...Signals looks like it is trying to rip off Fleetwood Mac's Tusk (based soley on the concept and design) and Power Windows looks like the soundtrack to a really bad eighties kids sci-fi.
  13. Thanks! Did anyone here realise that Ld Zeppelin wre hugeuABBA fans and that they recorded one of their later albums at Polar Music studios, ABBA's self made recording studio? I refused to listen to haters. ABBA are AMAZING! On the same level as The Beatles, imo possibly even better...
  14. I loved Annette. Her voice was special, it had a certain charm I can't put into words. Will miss her greatly!
  15. ABBA and Rush are about equal in my world. Add The Beatles, Lacuna Coil and Fleetwood Mac to that same list. O my days, I love me some ABBA! The Visitors is an amazing song.
  16. I love Cinderella Man. Almost as underrated as Madrigal!
  17. Lacuna Coil - Karmacode Unleashed Memories Comalies Khoma- The Second Wave Fleetwood Mac - Tusk ABBA- The Visitors The Beatles- Rubber Soul Help! Nightwish- Dark Passion Play Miles Davis- Kind Of Blue Sketches Of Spain Toto- Fahrenheit Rush- Clockwork Angels Moving Pictures 2112 Jimmy Eat World- Clarity Mineral- End Serenading Alter Bridge- ABIII
  18. Alter Bridge are amazing! One of my favourite bands, I think alternative rock/metal have their saviours in the form of this band! I love all their albums, but controversially I have to admit Blackbird is my least favourite, with ABIII number one and Fortress and One Day Remains fighting for second place. Oh, and Creed absolutely suck.
  19. I voted for the title track. I just love everything about it, although the closing track is not far behind!
  20. Hello new here! Have been a fan for nearly three years, beginning with Moving Pictures. Now own all their albums from Rush to Power Windows, and then Snakes and Arrows and the SUBLIME Clockwork Angels. However, although I still need to hear a few more records, my current favourite is A Farewell To Kings. I think it is absolutely amazing, and the title track is one of their most underrated in my opinion. I also think Permanent Waves and Clockwork Angels are close behind. Least favourite so far is Power Windows. It just leaves me cold, and the songs are not memorable. Hence my reluctance to buy the following few LP's (although Hold Your Fire along with the new boxset is on my list of things to buy soon).
