I think the Tigers are going to rebound and make the playoffs. They went through their bad stretch. I think Houston is more likely to make the playoffs than the Twins, the sole reason being starting pitching. This Twins team reminds me so much of the Pirates from three years ago, who won a ton of close first half games- average starting pitching that was overacheiving, the bullpen got tired and the level of clutch hitting was unsustainable, and they missed the playoffs. Plus the Twins have more competition within their division. Maybe it's time to stop expecting the Angels to be good though. The A's are 13 games under 500 but with a positive run differential. I don't think bad Mariners teams should ever be unexpected... I don't see the Rangers being able to sustain what they've done either (maybe they're another surprise from the first third to 40% of the season.) I agree with Seattle, until they prove otherwise you cant pencil them in as contending for a playoff spot. However, the pieces are there regarding starting pitching, and Cano is certainly capable of flipping the switch and playing like the old version of himself. The big problem for the Angels is starting pitching - Weaver is pretty good but not a #1. Everyone else on their staff is pretty unremarkable other than Richards, but he also has consistency issues

NL Central has not been terribly surprising. I knew the Cards would be good, just not this good. Cincinnati and Milwaukee were supposed to suck, and they are living up to expectations. Cubs were supposed to be improved, and they have. Pirates were supposed to be a playoff contender, and currently are looking like it. The biggest hope for me is our starting pitching. Our 4 and 5 starters have been arguably weaker than in years past, but our top 3 look like a legit playoff rotation. Gerritt Cole is transforming into a true ace, Liriano when hes on is as tough to hit as anyone in the majors, and AJ has found the fountain of youth. If we make the playoffs, we actually have the starting pitching firepower to make a deep run.

Yankees are definitely a big surprise- maybe not as big of a surprise as Houston or Minnesota, but they look good. Tanaka looked really good during his last outing

Without a doubt, the biggest surprise has been the AL West. Houston and Texas at the top of the division.....Anaheim, Seattle or Oakland leading the division would not have been surprising. Just behind the West in suprises have to be the Minnesota Twins. Clutch hitting and excellent bullpen pitching have been the recipe for success. When they need a run, they find a way to score. We will see if they can keep it up. Who is more likely to make the playoffs - Twins or Astros? What other big surprises have you observed?

I haven't really liked the pitcher hitting eighth but this article appears to suggest it has a slightly positive effect. http://espn.go.com/m...ago-cubs-lineup I had similar thoughts when I first heard about what Maddon was doing when the Nats played at Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Without looking at analysis, I figured that having a better hitter in the 9 spot would help out the 1 and 2 spots, as well as the 9 spot. So for me, the article makes great sense. And honestly, if your 8 and 9 hitters are getting enough at bats in a game to really make a difference between who hits 8th or 9th, then your team is probably playing pretty well over all. Besides, unless you starting pitchers routinely pitch into the 8th or 9th innings, you will be pinch hitting for them anyway, as the relievers come in. On a similar note, Anthony Rendon came back last night, and was inserted into the batting order at 3, bumping Bryce Harper to 4. Harper had been the Nats best hitter up to this point, and people down here were screaming about not wanting to bump him to 4th. But Rendon has the ability to be the best hitter on the club, especially with Harper coming up after him. Pitchers will have to pitch to him, and take their chances, other than risk a walk. Then Harper comes up with a great chance to get on base, or even get an extra base hit, and drive in whoever is on base. And once Jayson Werth gets back, the middle of the Nats rotation is going to be very formidable. The other arguement about the 8 vs 9 thing is that pitchers usually bunt with runners on base. Lets say you have a runner on first, and lays down a sac bunt, now you have a RISP but your 9 hitter is up instead of leadoff guy...the leadoff guy usually hits for much better average than your 9 hole guy. If I was a manager, my pitcher would hit in the 9 hole. Storen gets the save.....nats win

In the Cub game? Yeah, Espinosa stealing 2nd....it was a real head scratcher. The replay was terribly obvious he was safe, but they called him out. I doubt it would have mattered, Arrieta was ahead in the count
-
Wow, talk about a blown replay call.....that seemed pretty obvious.

Jake Arrieta is a fine pitcher, however he looks like a dork with how he wears his hat completely flat. David Ross in the 7 hole with 2 outs.....IBB to get to Arrieta. I would be curious to see how many ABs with RISP Cubs pitchers get compared to the rest of the NL

Were you in a canoe? :D No I was on the bank. Heres what happened - It was about 11 PM, I hooked a big one, about 4-5 lb bass. Yelled for a buddy to give me a hand. I caught him on a shallow crank bait with 2 treble hooks, so I kinda scooped him up on the bank by its belly instead of lipping em to avoid getting nailed by the treble hooks. So I got it on the bank, as it was flopping, it broke the line, and the crankbait was still in its mouth (this lure was red hot, and the only one I had). Fish started flopping, and landed back in the water. My buddy had his IPhone on, I saw the fish laying on its side just a few inches below the surface of the water. I knew that any moment the fish would kinda wake up and bolt, so I bent down in the water to grab to try and scoop the fish up. I put one hand in the water to try and touch the bottom, but I didnt realize how deep it was, and since it was deeper than I thought, nothing to brace myself, I rolled right in. The only redeeming part of the story - a few minutes later, the fish jumped a couple times trying to throw the lure. The fish succeeded! So later I swam out and picked up the crankbait and retied it on my rod (luckily crankbaits float) Thats what you get for using treble hooks. :P I despise treble hooks. I only used them on crankbaits and some topwater lures because thats how the come. I lose so many more fish on treble hooks than single hooks its not even funny -

Who or What is the Jedi in "Return of the Jedi" ?
tx_rush replied to tx_rush's topic in Video Vertigo
I had forgot but remember the film was originally to be called Revenge of the Jedi. How does that play into the meaning? Discuss. The Jedi took "revenge" against the Empire by killing Darth Vader. But since Jedi are supposed to be above the idea of revenge, and instead only work for good, the name of the movie was changed to reflect this. Also, I am apparently a big nerd. You mean the emperor... they didn't kill DV, they converted him Yes, the Jedi Order "returned" when the Emperor was killed (also with Vader returning to the Good Side), thereby destroying the Sith. What always interested me about Jedi philosophy in these episodes is how unflexible the Jedi were in dealing with the Sith. Yoda and Obi-Wan never even considered trying to "save" Vader. Their only solution was to kill him.....even when he first turned to the Dark Side in his youth. Ironically, Palpatine was right about the Jedi in a way. The Jedi and the Sith were indeed alike in some aspects. Both thought in absolutes...... Don't they only say that Vader must be destroyed? That's not the same as killing Darth Vader. A return of Anakin from the dark side effectively destroys Vader. http://www.coetail.com/erussell/files/2013/03/geekometer.png In Revenge of The Sith, Obi-Wan saw Anakin as a lost cause. At the beginning of their epic battle, he drew his light saber and said, "I will do what I must"..... In Return of The Jedi, Obi-Wan still saw Anakin/Vader as a lost cause..... Obi-Wan: Your father was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. He ceased to be Anakin Skywalker and became Darth Vader. When that happened, the good man who was your father was destroyed. Luke: There is still good in him. Obi-Wan: He is more machine now than man. Twisted and evil. Luke: I can't do it, Ben. Obi-Wan: You cannot escape your destiny. You must face Vader again. Luke: I can't kill my own father. Obi-Wan: Then the Emperor has already won. You were our only hope. Yet he does not say that Luke must kill him, only face him. Remember Ben is less than transparent with Luke, manipulative, even. You're right, but in all the Star Wars films, the Jedi's philosophy and actions have shown that their "solution" to the Sith is to kill them. Dooku, Maul, Palpatine, even Anakin Skywalker. The kill order is always implied, not spoken outright. That is why I think the Jedi and Sith are more alike as the Jedi say, as Palpatine argued. In the original trilogy, do Obi Wan or Yoda even once say that Vader or the emporer needs to be killed? Does Obi Wan try and kill Vader in a New Hope? -
My 6 year old son was asking me questions about Star Wars. In trying to provide an explantation to his questions, I realized I didnt know the answer to this question. I guess my assumption was that the "Jedi" referred to in the title was Luke Skywalker, returning after getting his butt kicked by Darth Vader in ESB. However, could the Jedi be Darth Vader, who had a change of heart and went from being a Sith to a Jedi? Or could it be the return of the Jedi movement or whatever you want to refer to it? Im sure others have thought about this, what do yall think?
