  1. That kind of stuff, having to post one's experiences for the world to see is a mental disease that's narcissistic in nature. What we have today is a society full of people that have been given the technology to "be on TV" as it were, so they're exercising their options in that regard. As you state, think about what it says about someone that can only seem to enjoy something when they know that others can see what they're doing. And if that's not the case, why not just take a few pics and hit facebook and whatnot after the show or the next day. I hear ya, but what really grinds my axe is that people exhibit the same exact behavior while driving. e.g., I'm sitting at a light about 6 cars back, the light turns green, all the cars go except for the clown in front of me who's obviously texting. So I give a couple of relatively polite taps on my horn telling the assclown to wake up and go and he's looking in his sideview mirror at me and flips me off while sitting still at a green light with about a dozen cars behind me at a GREEN light. Finally I honk not so politely. Anyway, the light changes, we both made our left hand turns into one of three varying lanes, now all of a sudden the asshole is in a huge f'ing hurry and is gunning it to try to prevent me from getting to the highway ramp first. We both get on the highway and I start driving like I always do and get off at the next exit by which time he's several cars behind me. He puts his car in park, gets out, and walks up to my car in a threatening manner whereupon I made it beyond clear to him that if he reached into my car his arm would be broken in multiple spots, and then exclaims, "what, you don't text in your car?" to which I astonishingly said "No, not at all, but damn sure not at a GREEN f'ing light." And he looks at me like I'm nuts. And we wonder what's going to happen when the shit hits the fan in this country and the fights are over real things like food. Society today is sick and for once I wouldn't mind living way out in the f'ing country somewhere. Hate to say it, but that's what society has been reduced to.
  2. Exactly! Again, I'd love to see them do Stairway to Heaven, IMO they'd do it better than Zep.
  3. as much as I love the instrumentals, an all instrumental concert wouldn't be too interesting for me. Again, obviously they'd have to play some other stuff or it'd be a short show, but all the instrumentals as part of it. Come on now ....
  4. Not just the instrumentals, but all of the major ones. It would save Geddy's voice too.
  5. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/q-a-neil-peart-on-rushs-new-lp-and-being-a-bleeding-heart-libertarian-20120612 As I've often stated, I would love nothing more than a tour that featured the instrumentals of Rush including YYZ, La Villa, TMMB, Limbo, Leave That Thing Alone, Where's My Thing, Hope, and Broon's Bane at least. I was just reading the above piece from last year and Neil in response to a related question is quoted as having said the following; What gave you the initial idea to make this a concept record? The nice thing is that it sort of grew in the telling. It started with a conversation in 2009. We got together in Los Angeles and started to think about our next year. One of the projects we discussed was doing a compilation of all of our instrumentals, which Geddy suggested. I said, "Yeah, maybe we could make a new one to go with it. Maybe something a little more extended." I'm hoping that the next album is exactly that followed by a tour of the same, with largely their instrumental pieces and a couple of new ones. How cool would that be! ... or am I in a minority?
  6. I'd rather just see a show w/ all their key instrumentals and even some "for one show only" jam stuff. As I've oft opined, I'd pay to watch them practice or jam. I think that a back to their roots tour w/o a big stage production would never fly in today's ADD emotional atmosphere, unfortunately. Not sure what I'd like otherwise, but leave it to them to do something at least a little different. The last two tours, Time Machine and this last one were two of their best ever IMO.
  7. Great sound quality! Pure instrumentals. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/FUcbGMdfV2M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUcbGMdfV2M From our latest album, 2112. LOL
  8. Interesting how the drums weren't nearly as much a part of the tune and what most are, namely merely a timekeeping element. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/vB6sRQQBH6E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Embed doesn't seem to be working .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB6sRQQBH6E And LOL, watch the audience at the end. When Geddy says "thank you" I'm waiting for an echo off the walls. How times have changed. Contrast w/ this, granted, more and newer drums, but because Neil knew what to do w/ them. http://youtu.be/ul0qlHHvELU They never would have evolved as they did w/o "the new guy." Anyway, thought it was interesting. I don't think I'd ever seen a clip w/ Rutsey before.
  9. Having said that, perhaps they're going to simply going to tour w/o a new album. I mean w/ a shorter format, guessing 2 hours, if they do another album and related tour, there wouldn't be much time in the set for older material. I'd like to see them let their hair down somewhat and do what they did for the Feedback album and do a couple of covers. I realize I'm in the extreme minority here, but I'd love to see them do Stairway to Heaven Geddy style, IMO that would absolutely rock. But some other material that they don't usually play too and a bunch of the instrumentals. In fact, I'd love to have them put out an all instrumental album and tour that. Shit, they could sell tix to have me watch them warm up and I'll be there. Not at all big on the opening act idea. YAWN!
  10. LOL They have another 20 good years ahead of 'em.
  11. Some of the themes run throughout, like the Anarchist, Carnies, Caravan, etc. Others are more chronological; Headlong Flight, The Wreckers, SCOG, The Garden.
  12. I agree. I hate novels and my reading is all but limited to non-fiction, but this was the best novel I'd read since I was forced to read Steinbeck novels. I thoroughly enjoyed it and also wish it had been longer.
  13. I agree completely. Takes about 3 hours for anyone w/ average reading skills to get thru too and its captivating the whole way thru, ... IMO.
  14. You implied it. "Songs are too long." As if they lengthened them for the show or something. I hated the concert myself, when I went into the restroom one of the dispensers was out of handsoap. I'll never attend another Rush show as long as I live.
  15. LMAO Sounds like something out of a Monty Python skit. I've never understood why people get so rip-roarin' drunk that they can't or aren't able to enjoy the event that they spent good money on. I'd be PO'd if after the tix purchase, wait, etc. I woke up the next day to find out it had come and gone and all I remember is paying for parking.
  16. I don't think that Rush is all that loud, but that's me. I really don't go to too many other concerts. I read/heard recently that Rush no longer uses the stage stacks, which is obvious, and I wasn't sure when they discontinued them, so all that they have are those long hanging strings of amps on either side of the stage. Interesting I was thinking at the last show, Hershey, that if it had been much less it may not have been loud enough. Just my thoughts.
  17. That's interesting, I'm curious what that sounds like. I usually bring a set of those foam plugs w/ me just in case. You can push those in/out as far as you want to regulate the dampening effect. I find that I can hear the actual instruments better w/ those all the way in, but the experience of the show is mitigated significantly creating a dilemma of sorts. Not sure if it's me, but the concerts don't seem as loud as they used to back in the day. Granted, and implicit humor aside, I may be used to it more at my age.
  18. Ahh, it's good to have a mosquito to swat away every now and again to make those mosquito free days seem all that much nicer, eh.
  19. He's one of the maladjusteds that Subdivisions speaks to that didn't come out on the safe side of the grinder.
