  1. You forgot to mention one icon. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/amirror/666.gif Hilarious, by the way.
  2. Here Again. Spine-chilling, both musically and lyrically.
  3. Time and motion, wind and sun and rain?
  4. Hmm. I guess it wouldn't be Just another junkie on a scoring run from "You Bet Your Life" on Roll the Bones then....
  5. Plans for tonight got cancelled - much to my relief, actually. Feeling lazy and won't mind turning in early and sober now.
  6. Now that's a surprize - I'm the ninth person to have voted for Chemistry. Chemistry is my favorite Rush song. On the one hand it makes me a little sad because I couldn't handle the courses in chemistry at Hebrew U my freshman year and ended up changing majors. But this song still represents the essence of my being and it is just a beautiful song in its mysteriousness and excitement. Seems to me it's chemistry... That's all it is. Atoms, electrons, protons, neutrons, the Periodic Table of Elements... Everything around us is chemistry. Everything within us chemistry too. And everything between us chemistry.
  7. "Available Light." Such a beautiful, ethereal, and evocative song. It transports, inspires, soothes and heartens. A song to close your eyes and surrender to, let it penetrate and heal. The world is so beautiful, and life so intense. Someone once wrote about Leonardo DaVinci's writings something like, "What becomes apparent in reading these texts is DaVinci's realization of the impossibility of the task of capturing the intensity of life in words." "Available Light" is an enjoinment to go outside and sense the world. To feel life. Pure, unmediated, overwhelming life. Run with wind and weather To the music of the sea All four winds together Can't bring the world to me...

QUOTE (barney_rebel @ Apr 21 2005, 04:21 PM) This movie is definately more than the previews make it out to be. It looked stupid but once you actually watch it it's very good. Much like Truman Show. And yes Matt is a pretty good looking bastard. The Truman Show - one of my favorites. Seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? Was that any good?
  9. In keeping with the TRF tradition, post 500 goes here.
  10. It's a tough call between Q, the Borg, and time travel. Q was a novel idea and it was interesting to see his character develop over the seasons. He always added a measure of comedy meddled with some kind of moral puzzle or challenging philosophical question. The Borg were an ingenious addition to the Enterprise's list of formidable foes. Visually arresting and existentially thought-provoking, the episodes with the Borg rank among the most engaging in the Star Trek chronicles. In the end, though, those episodes that explore the subject of time travel are... timeless. They end leaving the viewer breathless, gaping at the television screen veritably stunned and wishing the story hadn't ended so soon. I apologize that all my verbs are in the preterit. My interest in Star Trek began waning shortly after the conclusion of The Next Generation. Captain Picard's successors just did not fill his shoes, and the writing suffered a similar decline.
  11. This is one of the cats at Mom's place. His name is Winter, but I call him The Devil. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/amirror/9df011a0.jpg On a philosophical note, today I think it is wrong to keep animals captive. And it's wrong to support an industry which causes animals suffering by keeping them locked up in cages or forced to perform tricks for the amusement of insensitive people. Oh boy.
  12. QUOTE (NeilPeartFan2112 @ Apr 19 2005, 04:43 PM) QUOTE (Chasartymac @ Apr 19 2005, 04:29 PM) I'm having to learn a new technique for watching films. NPG keeps giggling, kissing me, telling me she loves me. http://img93.exs.cx/img93/2706/lengua9ep.gif Get a room! But they do make me so happy. Really, they light up all the threads they "invade."
  13. Your avatar is so distracting... But anyway, While Travolta is indeed one of the most talented actors out there these days, the same cannot be said about Nicholas Cage. Something about Cage's performance (much like Kevin Spacey's) comes off as irritably condescending somehow. Con Air demonstrates this quite well. As far as Face Off is concerned, yes it was a great movie - cool action, effects, and certainly an engaging storyline. Underrated? I think it got its fair share of praise.
  14. Wow. That is beautiful. At least, everything save the "and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole." Ouch. I couldn't resist finding out who wrote it: Many things on the 'net are attributed to national radio commentator Paul Harvey. Some are similar to his "Rest of the Story" theme, but others, like this one, don't really sound Harvey-esque. Harvey does have some connection to this piece, but saying that itis "from Paul Harvey" is a bit misleading. Though Harvey read the essay above on his radio program in 1997, he did not write it. It was originally titled "These things I wish for you," and the author was Lee Pitts. It existed in many forms before it was read by Harvey and published in Chicken Soup for the Golden Soul in 2000. The Harvey attribution may be because the theme of the essay is similar to other essays that have been misattributed to him. [source: http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/harveyriddle.html]
  15. Here's the constellation that corresponds to my zodiacal sign. Can anyone identify it without cheating? http://www.allthesky.com/constellations/virgo/big.jpg [source: http://www.allthesky.com]
  16. Actually, more than anything it reminds me of Fahrenheit 451, both the book and the motion picture. Unfortunately, a certain director of pop documentaries exploited that title for commercial gain, thus tainting its former connotations.
  17. QUOTE (kazzman @ Apr 13 2005, 06:22 PM) Anybody else seen this film? I just saw it last night and I loved it. Yeah, I saw it a few months ago. Very 1984esque, I thought. Overall, it was a good film, but I had some problems with the symbolism - I think it could have been made more subtle. Have you seen The Thirteenth Floor and Dark City?
  18. Yep, adorable Let's hope they grow up to a better world than we did.
