  1. QUOTE (jymyben @ Sep 22 2012, 11:36 AM) been with rush since 73 when the first record came out... got to finally see them in 81, and havent missed a tour since... this is my favorite rush setlist of all the yrs i have seen them... why? because it isnt full of the same songs i have been hearing live since 81, it is a fresh set, with lots of deep cuts... i think i would have been given the middle finger more if i went to a show with the same ole same ole set, heavy on moving pictures/permanent waves era songs... the songs are fresh, the lightening/screen images are fresh and even neil has a new drum solo for this tour... i have seen two shows on the tour, and everyone i went to the shows with, or hooked up with after loved the current setlist... rush is evolving and breaking out of the mold... too bad many of their fans are unable to do the same... peace Agree and thought the show and setlist was one of the best and the best in recent tours. Im over 50 and you know what I cant stand anymore? The endless classic rock stations that are on the radio. Tired old songs. Still love them but dont want to hear them that much anymore. Guess that happens when your older. Everyday you listen to a classic rock station what songs are you just about guaranteed to hear......Bohemian Rhapsody, Sweet emotion, More than a feeling, Tom Sayer, EVERY STINKIN DAY! lol!! New fresh stuff is great for ears that have heard the same old same old for so long......great setlist new recording and show Rush guys!!!
  2. Always thought it was a shame that Hemispheres never made it on exit stage left or any other live recording. Everything else from the record was offered live but never Hemispheres. I saw them play it at the Hemispheres tour and the PW warm up tour. One of my favorites for sure.
  3. QUOTE (trenken @ Sep 20 2012, 04:29 PM) QUOTE (rushfan88 @ Sep 20 2012, 11:36 AM) QUOTE (trenken @ Sep 20 2012, 11:04 AM) Well they arent anything like Dave Matthews band for example who has a wildly different setlist every single night. Well the big difference there is Rush's music is way more complex than Dave Matthews by far. For Rush to play an unstructured set list would require way more practice and preparation. Not to mention all the different visuals that go into making a show. Rush also has way more material to choose from than Dave Matthews. Therefore, I really don't think it's fair to compare those two bands. It's not even close to an "apples to apples" comparison... Well I also brought up Dream Theater who is far more complex than Rush ever was, and they change up their set list all the time. You can just pick a random song of theirs and it will be much harder to play than any Rush song you can find, so it doesnt make sense why they do this and Rush doesnt. I just dont think Rush feels like learning 50 songs, but DT does so that you get a different show each night you see them. They have a lot of fans that go to many shows on each of their tours, so its nice of them to do that. Dream theater has not changed their set list much at all the past 3 tours. One or two songs every other night like Rush is presently doing. And they no longer do "A Night With" shows anymore, opting for much shorter sets and one or more opening acts.
  4. Totally agree. I really like CA and think it was the highlight of the show. Ive seen some complain that they played the whole thing instead of older songs. Well, I for one am glad I saw the whole piece played live, same as I was when I saw most of 2112 played live when it was first released and all of Hemispheres played live on its supporting tour. Progressive concept records.......nothing better and it sure is great to see Rush do another!!
  5. QUOTE (The Mighty Dudad @ Sep 17 2012, 09:24 AM) I've mentioned this a few times in other threads, but in looking back at Saturday night, I just can't get out of my head how absolutely stunningly monstrously amazing Headlong Flight was in concert. The band and strings played it with such tremendous ferocity, and when the band rejoined after Neil's brief solo...just wow. The crowd completely ate it up and rewarded the performance with what I think was the biggest response of the night. Am I alone here?? Heck of a great song! I agree it got one of the biggest hands of the night, and everytime Ged hit the high note in "all Againnnnnnnnnnnn" our section erupted. I remember the Anarchist getting a rousing round as well.
  6. Go to the show early and check with the box office for upgrades. The promoters hold out tickets for VIPs, band or tour members family ect.... and will release them right before show time. For the past month all you could get for the Chicago show were upper level. I stopped by the box office 2 or 3 hours before the doors opened and upgraded to 5th row left! You just pay the difference between the face value of the upgraded ticket and the one you already bought. No broker premium prices! GOOD LUCK!!

  8. Geddys voice sounded great, they threw in Spirit of radio, All of CA was the highlight for me...... except maybe closing with 2112! AND the Mrs & I were able to upgrade right before the show to 5th row!!!! What was every one elses highlight?? http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m604/EdDeV77/RU-70.jpg http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m604/EdDeV77/RU-50.jpg http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m604/EdDeV77/RU-27.jpg http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m604/EdDeV77/RU-3.jpg
  9. QUOTE (LotusLand @ Sep 14 2012, 09:35 PM) Any place nearby where my son and I can grab someting to eat and a beer and not get shot or mugged? There is a place called Wishbone about 10 min away I really like. If your at the UC, go east on madison to ogden, take a left to washington (next block north) then head east on washington. Its down about half a mile. Southern reconstruction food they call it......whatever it is its pretty good and reasonable. Try the shrimp on grits. When you return just go a block south to madison and back west to the UC. You wont get mugged around there. The west loop is now fully yuppyized!
  10. There are really no bad seats in the UC though. I often debate whether to buy close tickets of some a ways back so I can take in the whole production. Anyone eating at the stadium club before the show? If you make reservations they let you in a couple hours early. Great eats and you can pick thru the T-shirt booth before the masses come in.

They told me that there were only a handful of tickets left for the 300 level. So Rush will have a heck of a good crowd here in Chitown! THE SPIRIT OF RADIO as our reward!! As long as they dont drop 2112! Thats my all time favorite!!

  13. Pat Travers was the opening act for the show I saw in 78. Life in London was the record he had out. Thing that gets me is all these years later I can remember that show like it was last week. Can almost remember the setlist too. Started with Bastile Day, anthem, FBN, then mixed in the FTK stuff. This was the first show they cut Bytor and mixed in Xanadu at the end. Question on big stage productions for everyone. Do you think its better up close or further back where you can see everything they are doing. Eg. I saw Roger Waters do the Wall at the United Center in 2010 and was only 15 rows back, but always wondered If I missed the grandeur of the production being so close. Any thoughts?
  14. I dont really register on forums and hate to have my first post be negative in any way, but jesus already!!! Alot of you whine like little kids who dont get what they want for christmas over this set list!! First off, Ive seen Rush for many years, first show being the ATWAS tour and then the Farewell To Kings show. Love the old stuff to death and really didnt get into the 80s stuff as much till later on, and while I personally like the raw style of early Rush, its all very good. I personally get bored with all the hits. I really look forward to the new stuff from whatever band Im seeing. When your 49 you have heard Working Man, TSOR, Tom Sawyer ect... to death! Im just happy the new recording sounds as good as it does and am really looking forward to hearing it here in Chcago. Go enjoy the show everyone. Whatever they play is better than 90% of the stuff thats coming out these days and you will miss them when they hang it up. BTW....C/O this link for some old pics of the Farewell show from Hammond Indiana. It was held in an old place called the civic center. I took my future wife of 30 years to this and we snuck under the bleachers for a front row (general admission) place at the rail. AND, Rush`s encore for this show?? 2112!!! http://www.regionrockmemories.com/HCC_Rush_78131_.html
