  1. Actually, no, I haven't heard of Mothership. I thought Andy mentioned something about Get the Led Out last week at Hilltop. I've seen them before and they are outstanding. Not familiar with Mothership though. Where/when is that gig going down? Mothership is pretty local in Delaware, too. They are really, really good. We'll be doing the Queen with them on January 3rd. They are playing at JB's on August 23rd if you want a preview. Can't make that one, my buddy Ed and I already have plans to ride the Harleys down to Baltimore that night to see an AC/DC tribute band called High Voltage at a joint called at the Fish Head Cantina. I hear there's a pretty hot opening act that night too… :Alex: :Neil: :geddy: should be a fun night!

  3. Congrats on the superb performance in front what I'm guessing was your largest audience (so far) this evening. You guys are truly rock stars now! Here's hoping this will build some momentum for kRush moving forward. You guys deserve it.
  4. Both are in my top 4 favorites, but La Villa Strangiato is the only one that makes my top 1.
  5. I would choose to be Alex because it would be absolutely awesome to be able to play guitar like he does. As much as I love listening to his music, I can only imagine how awesome it must be to be the OWNER and creator of so many incredible riffs and tones. As for the time period, I would probably prefer to be Alex right after Signals, so I could steer the band away from the direction they were about to head in at that point in time. Though I'd also like to be Alex right now, so I could INSIST on adding The Necromancer to the next tour's setlist!
  6. Each of us, a cell of awareness Imperfect and incomplete Genetic blends, with uncertain ends On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet
  7. Technically this makes no sense. (I owed you that!) :7up:
  8. That's a great one, but I personally like: 'We can fall from rockets' red glare Down to "Brother, can you spare… another war" even better.
  9. FWIW, I'm not really a Kiss fan, and I was not aware of Gene Simmons' aforementioned comments. But I will take just a moment to defend him at least a little. I was trying to remember where I had seen and become impressed by him, and it finally came to me. I saw him a while back on Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader, where he won $500,000 for a charity. I can't personally remember the charity he played for, but according to wikipedia it was The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. I remember him coming across as quite intelligent, and that he seemed to genuinely want to do well for the charity. I honestly don't know all that much about Kiss or any of the members, or Gene Simmons' true character, but I feel compelled to at least give him some credit for what I actually saw with my own two eyes a few years ago.
  10. Welcome to the heated argument thread…. "What???? How can you say __________ is overrated???????? It's a great bleeping song!!!!!!!!"
  11. Well it's technically not a song because there are no vocals... Wow… and all these years I thought it was my favorite song…. MY LIFE IS RUINED!!!!!!!!!!!! :|
  12. While I agree it's been awesome to have learned what great guys RUSH are over the years, I have to say that unless they had turned to be absolute cretins, they would still be my favorite band. I fell in love with their music right off the bat. I still vividly remember to the first time I listened to Permanent Waves from start to finish and thinking "Wow! This is the best album I've ever heard in my life!" Caress of Steel was my second RUSH album, and that just sealed the deal. Spending the next 6 months or so buying and experiencing all of the rest of their albums was pure music heaven. I felt pretty much from the get go that their music was simply the perfect music for me. For so many years I was absolutely baffled as to why the whole world didn't agree with me. So anyway, getting back to the question, I would have to say that even if Geddy was just like Gene Simmons or in some other way not the great guy he seems to be, I would still be grateful to him (and Alex and Neil) for producing the great music I have gotten so much enjoyment out of listening to for all of these years. Oh and by the way KennyLee, I can't wait to see Krush tomorrow night at Hilltop! It's going to be a fun night!
  13. For me it is a virtual tie between Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures. I went with Hemispheres in the poll, the tiebreaker being that La Villa Strangiato is my overall favorite song ever.
  14. I think they're pretty cool actually. They help create a sort of brooding intensity about the song, further accented by Alex's wicked riffs that surround them. Do you really think so? I'm not a drummer (or musician of any ilk), but I've never felt that way about Didacts and Narpets… Does your copy of COS not include Panacea for some reason? Yech… talk about embarrassing...
  15. Good choices, I agree with most of these. I think it's funny you put "Hope" for SnA. I'd probably go with Main Monkey Business or The Way the Wind Blows. For CA I gotta go with Caravan or BU2B. Most absurd choice is What You're Doing above Working Man. That f***ing riff, man! It's goddamned iconic! There are some others I'd disagree with but not as strongly. Lol, I went with What You're Doing as well! No doubt Working Man is the obvious choice, and a classic for sure, but I guess I feel the same way about it as Tom Sawyer. And What You're Doing is a truly great song that gets no recognition whatsoever. That solo is one of my all-time favorites…. :haz:
  16. Rush: What You're Doing - LOVE that solo! As someone else said already though, the guitar is really great on this whole album. Fly By Night: By-Tor and the Snowdog Caress of Steel: The Necromancer, OF COURSE!!!!!!!!! 2112: 2112, although Lessons is a very close 2nd. A Farewell To Kings: Xanadu Hemispheres: Impossible to choose between La Villa Strangiato (best guitar solo EVER!), and Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres, which holds some of Alex's key signature guitar riffs. Permanent Waves: Natural Science Moving Pictures: Limelight - another of Alex's signature sounds Signals: I have to go with The Weapon - the solo is some of the most inventive playing I've ever heard (that actually sounds good!), but Analog Kid is a very close 2nd. Grace Under Pressure: Afterimage Power Windows: Emotion Detector Hold Your Fire: Open Secrets Presto: Show Don't Tell Roll The Bones: I withhold my vote on this one for now since I haven't listened to this album in quite some time. Counterparts: Cut To The Chase Test For Echo: I withhold my vote on this one for now since I haven't listened to this album in quite some time. Vapor Trails: I withhold my vote on this one for now since I haven't listened to this album in quite some time. Snakes and Arrows: The Main Monkey Business, Clockwork Angels: Headlong Flight - though The Anarchist and Halo Effect are right up there as well. I am absolutely stunned at how much I agree with Rush Are Awesome and Bowl City on this one!
  17. I would really love to go, but am still contemplating… and starting to face the reality that I really can't afford it. Being that it is an all day drinking affair, I will need to book a motel room, which combined with the admission, gas and tolls puts the price tag for me in the $250 - 300 range. I actually do have the money, but priority wise I just can't justify shelling out that much cash for this event right now. It sucks because I feel like I'm going to regret my decision either way.
  18. Personally I would be much sadder if they played just bits of the songs than if they played none of them at all. Medleys make the baby jesus cry. Well i wouldn't go quite that far, but I'm not a fan of the medley's either. At least not with the songs i like the most anyway. Now if they want make a 3-4 minute medley out of Faithless, Subdivisions, The Garden, and Time Stand Still I'm all for it! :P
  19. :goodone: :goodone: :goodone: :goodone: :goodone: :goodone: :goodone: :goodone: :goodone:
  20. How did you miss one of the most awesome bass songs ever written????? Dude!!!!!! :geddy:
  21. Easy 1. Who was Rush's original drummer? John Rutsey 2. What did Geddy's amp say on the Time Machine tour? I'm guessing something sausage related… Gershwin's House of Sausage perhaps? 3. How many studio albums does Rush have? (You miss this one, you're not a Rush fan at all... :tsk: ) 19 (20 counting Feedback) 4. Who wrote 2112? Geddy and Alex wrote the music, Neil and someone else wrote the lyrics, I think the guy that said DuBois was on the right track. Maybe 5. What Canadian town did they grow up in? Willowdale 6. What is the only song Neil wrote about drugs? A Passage to Bangkok 7. How many songs are on the Test For Echo album? I haven't listened to that album in at least ten years. I'll guess ten. 8. Who is Rush's manager? Ray Danniels, whom I suspect is in reality actor Jeff Daniels under an assumed showbiz name. 9. How old is Alex? All I know is they are all in the vicinity of 60 10. What song had the lyrics "The universe has a plan"? BU2B - I couldn't get this one until I read it in someone else's answers. Medium 1. Who was Rush's original bassist? Jeff Jones? As far as i knew it was Geddy. Anyone else had to be before they were called RUSH didn't it? 2. This was said to Rush by Stephen Colbert: "You are yet to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Is there any chance your next album will be titled '_____________'?" Fill in the blank. WHAT THE F#*K?!?!?!?!?!? 3. What is Alex's real full name? Yugoslavian name, starts with Z, ends with ich, has a v and some o's and i's in between. 4. Which song on AF2K did Geddy write? I thought it was Madrigal, but not sure to be honest. 5. What was "The Real History of Rush" episode no. 2? Didn't know this, but Don't Be Rash sounds like it may be correct. 6. Name the albums with the songs: Before and After, Territories, Half the World, Malignant Narcissism? Rush, Power Windows, Test for Echo, Snakes & Arrows 7. How old will Neil be in 2112? Dead, barring a miracle. 8. Where is Rushcon? Toronto 9. How many Grammys have Rush won? 0 10. How many Junos have Rush won? I think they won one for almost all of their studio albums, and maybe a few more for live albums. I'm guessing 20. Hard 1. Who was Rush's original keyboardist? Geddy as far as I know 2. What was the person who went on stage during The Main Monkey Business on the Snakes and Arrows tour wearing? A costume 3. What cartoon character did Alex Lifeson try to ban? Donald Duck???? Really????? 4. What was Neil's daughter's first name? Je ne sais pas. 5. What day did Anatomy of a Drum Solo come out? Je ne sais pas. 6. What brand were the dryers behind Geddy on the Vapor Trails and R30 Tours? For some reason I want to say Kenmore... 7. What date did John Rutsey die? ? I know it was relatively recent. 8. What does Neil's newest wife, Carrie, do for a living? Je ne sais pas. 9. Where was Rush's first gig? The Coffin, as stated in Beyond the Lighted Stage 10. How many members are on the Rush forum? (Yeah I did ;) ) Je ne sais pas.
  22. That's why he's the Sr. Editor of the Yukon Blade Grinder Europe desk. He Rocks. So all is forgiven on the Squire thing I'm guessing?.... :) Haha, guess so. Look, I've tried. I really have. Truth is kenny and I are two peas in the same pod...except for the Squire appreciation. He's got "issues" there Oh, I have issues, believe me. Please TM, throw me your favorite bass line from CS. I'm sure much like Rush, it ain't gonna be their biggest hit. Help me like this guy! Note, for me to love it it's gonna have to be melodic. How about "The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)" from the 'Fragile' album? I also really like "Heart of the Sunrise" as someone else already mentioned (also from 'Fragile') but I would say that "the Fish" is more melodic. All of that said, I agree that Squire is overrated, although it sounds as though I like him a bit more than you do. I have some friends who still consider him the best rock bass player ever, but as far as I'm concerned he pales in comparison to Geddy Lee.
  23. Nice way to absolve yourself of any future mistakes! :ebert:
  24. Pretty cool stuff! No disrespect to Geddy and the remarkable story of his mother's courage and perseverance, but of the two speeches, I was more impressed (and hopefully inspired) by Alex's. "You don't always win if you try, but you always fail if you don't". Now that's a 'Far Cry' from "Blah, blah, blah, blah…."
  25. I don't like the list at all quite honestly. I truly believe that Hemispheres, MP, and Permanent Waves, in whatever order, have to be the top 3 on any list. I will acknowledge that could be debated, but as ReRushed already suggested, Permanent Waves at #8 pretty much removes all credibility as far as i'm concerned. And putting COS second to the bottom just flat out pizzes me off!! But I agree that the intro is very well written, and appreciate the post. :goodone:
