  1. The original single version was better for me, the album version was too stripped back. Especially the chorus..
  2. For a 60yr old I'd score a 4.. In a studio environment, he can still cut it. His range is a good 3 tones down on what he could sing at his peak and his tone has mellowed, as indeed it had to. When he tries to sing older material in original keys it can sound embarrassing, but that's when his voice is tired after a run of gigs. New material wouldn't be an issue as he can write in the keys he's comfortable in.

    Catchy Songs

The wreckers? Bravest Face? Everyday glory?
  4. Great album, with great production and a handful of very good songs. Would've been nice to hear some vocals on "hope".. There's a great memory to be had there..

But there wasn't anything "good" to listen to in the old mix. To me almost all the songs were more alive in the old mix. Sure the mix was a hot brick, but at the same time the songs were a lot more vibrant than in the new mix. If I remember correctly the new mix sounds thin and uninspired. Agree, though sonically flawed, the energy and anger vanished on the remix.. Replaced by a mass of clicking bass drum!

At last someone else who thinks.. What the hell was he thinking? The worst recorded drum sound ever.. Sounds like it was recorded through a sm58 in someone's garage!

    Dat bass drum doe..
  8. Agree, but would be nice to hear that he's doing well, and happy, and more importantly, healthy.
  9. As long as he's not responsible for the drum sound! Anything that involves Alex will sound poor because he always insists on having the guitar way to high in the mix, which occupies too much frequency space, resulting in a poor mix. Something that would never happen with a 'real' producer.
  10. "..Down to brother can you spare another another war.." last time thru when he goes up as opposed to down.. Still gives me goosebumps!
  11. Original 7/10 remix 4/10.. God that bass drum sound..Why oh why!!
  12. Owned all but the first 3 albums. Got all the video media, got Al's pick from S&A tour,(2nd row, quite a good catch!) seen 'em 6 times here in the UK.. And until recently my wife owned a rush thong! Hope I made the criteria!
  13. .. That's the paradox! I guess Geddy would be the same if you started talking about baseball. Crazy that Neil likes his fame if it would get him off a speeding ticket, but ask for his autograph and show appreciation for his inspiration, then you're a freak..
  14. Neil will always be at the top of my drumming Mount Everest. However, despite me having been a fan for 25 years, owning pretty much all their material, and travelling from Australia to USA twice to see them live...if given the chance Neil Peart wouldn't give me the time of day. He's not obliged to. But IMO it says a lot about his character. Sad to read, but afraid this is true. Not all "fans" want to kill you Neil.. Some of them just want to say "thank you" its a Shame that you can't understand this
  15. The solos on subdivisions and countdown spring to mind, being a keyboard player the keys are never a challenge to play in rush songs, but keyboard interpretations of rush songs can sound interesting!
  16. Excellent summary of pop culture rap. It takes an awful lot of talent to talk in time to someone's elses creation! I'm mean.. Really!
  17. Kanye West is an incredibly talented musician in his field. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ7MMIRSlbY Fridge what the f**k????? He put on a backing tape then got the audience to sing most of it then did a few words out of tune??? Oh no no no please tell me you are not serious? It is so tragically terrible that I wish I could bring Kurt Cobain back to life just to blow away this awfulness for one last time. He is an incredibly talented musician in his field????? Well all I can think of is that field is just full of cow dung. The middle class "white" music press love black music because they think it is cool. They championed the cause of the ethnic African American rap culture and how it was so relevant whilst they derided the misogynistic stone age lyrics of the white rock establishment. That was true in the 80's but all has been turned on its head. White rock music now talks about social issues and challenges the ethos of the current system whilst the "mainstream" rap and R&B "artists" talk about "guns" and "drugs" and "bitches" and "f*****s" while they drive around in their expensive cars. Still the pathetic middle class music press wannabe little boys fantasize about being "in the hood" . You come from a rich family, you go to college and be a "rebel" for 3 years then you come home and daddy gets you a nice job with a hedge fund. These guys combined rock music with the message of the early Rap artists
  18. We see Geddy and Alex frequently, but nothing from Neil. Be nice to see him healthy and happy, Does anyone think we'll ever hear from him?
  19. He chose the Steinberg so he could get to the keyboards easier, not sure that he used them on the record but might be wrong. One of their best looks for me..Peart's kit is awesome, Ged's battered Moog has seen better days though!
  20. Prefer the original, agree about the mastering, but feel that the energy, passion and anger is missing from the remix. Also possibly the worst kick drum sound ever recorded is used on the remix throughout the album.. What was he thinking!
  21. ".. Clockwork angels bathed in liiiiiiiiiiight.." Sends chills down my spine! Great vibrato..
  22. I got Alex's pick on the snakes and arrows tour.. Plucked it from the air! Well used.. Anyone wanna buy that! Lol!
  23. So what is his true range, let's say then as opposed to now, I guess the lowest notes he sang were in 'the trees'(trouble with the trees)?
  24. Probably directed at the photographer!
