QUOTE (different strings @ Jul 1 2012, 06:03 AM) Seeing that they are going to all the trouble of bringing a string section with them on tour I think it's a safe bet that they will indeed play THE GARDEN - maybe after Neil's solo. Yep. A sure bet that the set list will also include "Halo Effect," which doesn't get enough appreciation IMO. I'd love to hear "Losing It" with a real string section, too.
  2. I think HLF at the end would have worked, but I believe the The Garden is actually meant to serve as the eulogy or "deathbed" epiphany of the protagonist. HLF doesn't quite fit that role as well as The Garden. Moreover, there are some similarities between the end of Ecclesiastes and The Garden. After having lived a long, unfulfilling life of hedonistic pursuits, the Teacher in Ecclesiastes finally concludes that the only true purpose of life to keep God's commandments, for that is how your life will be measured. In The Garden, the protagonist concludes after a life of adventure that the true purpose of life is to love and to give, for that is how your life will be measured.
  3. If pressed today, I would pick The Garden as my favorite. But the margin is so slim that I could easily pick a different one tomorrow or next week. Every track is simply glorious. (Sorry BU2B2, but you're the lone exception. It's you, not me.)
  4. I have my own "coding cave" at work for software development and testing, equipped with a Soundfreaq SFQ-04 portable Bluetooth speaker system. (Highly recommended, BTW.) CA has pretty much been playing nonstop since 6/12 while I work on our system.
  5. Based on the early releases of Caravan and BU2B, my expectations were already pretty high. Then the Headlong Flight single really amped me up. I've loved CA from the very first listen, and it has continued to grow bigger and better for me with each successive listen. Can't get enough of it.
  6. I have no trouble whatsoever saying CA is the best since MP.
  7. To the extent that members of the Occupy movement exhibit the characteristics of envious and bitter individuals, yes. But the same can be said of many teenagers. I don't believe for a second that Neil's lyrics are targeted at any specific political group, especially Occupiers. The Anarchist is just an illustration of the effects of unrestrained envy.
  8. My iTunes count is already up to 28-30 on some tracks. I've certainly listened to the album as a whole, beginning to end, at least 20 times now. (And I'm not remotely close to being burned out yet.)
  9. Yes, this is a very emotional song for me. I truly think it is one of their most beautiful compositions from start to finish, and that alone would ordinarily be enough to make me catch my breath. But I lost my mother this May to cancer. She was a wonderful person, and The Garden reflects well how she approached life. And as if that weren't enough, she and my father (who is grieving as well) are directly responsible for instilling in me a deep love for music. I can't thank Neil, Alex and Geddy enough for the gift of CA, and especially this song. Their performance has helped bring me some measure of comfort during this tough time.
