  1. To the heart of Cygnus' fearsome force / We set our course
  2. It's remarkable that a thread of this nature has not devolved into a nasty, nasty pool of nastiness. Just occasional expressions of shock and disbelief, as well as some good-natured ribbing. Cheers to you all!
  3. Mine's from By-Tor: Back in the day, I thought that "By-Tor, knight of darkness / Centurion of evil, devil's prince" was actually "By-Tor, knight of darkness / Centurion of evil, tell your friends!"
  4. Toledo! (just moved here nine months ago) *waves at SchemingDemon*

    Track ranking

This is totally in flux, of course: 1. The Anarchist 2. Clockwork Angels 3. Caravan 4. Seven Cities of Gold 5. BU2B 6. Carnies 7. Headlong Flight 8. The Wreckers 9. Halo Effect 10. The Garden 11. Wish Them Well 12. BU2B2
  6. I discovered these forums only a day or two ago. Coincidentally, I too prepared for the release of CA by listening to Rush's entire catalogue from start to finish! I had a long commute, so I would bring along a couple of CDs in the car every day. Even more coincidentally, I imposed similar rules upon myself: I had to listen to the albums in order, once each, no repeats. You can imagine I was quite surprised to find this thread! What I took away from the experience: 1) I love the debut album more than ever before. 2) I forgot how good ATWAS is; I really need to bust that one out more often. 3) I came to appreciate some of Presto a bit, and I no longer declare it "unlistenable." Much of side 1 is at least tolerable now. 4) I still harbor a strong distaste for RTB and S&A. No progress made there. I will likely do it all over again once I can tear myself away from Clockwork Angels!
  7. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Jun 14 2012, 03:15 PM) Why is "peddler" mis-spelled as "pedlar"? I'm sure it's intentional, but why? According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, pedlar is the preferred spelling in the U.K. (can our British friends verify?) Perhaps this is the preferred spelling in Canada as well.

  9. At this point, my top three are, in no particular order: Caravan The Anarchist Seven Cities of Gold But I don't have a clear fourth yet. Struggling for supremacy are Clockwork Angels, Carnies, and Headlong Flight.
  10. My three kids grew up hearing Rush all their lives, and while the other two appreciate them, they're just not really into music in general. But my youngest daughter, now 19, is a fan. Took her to see the holy trinity on the Snakes tour. Her fave songs are The Spirit of Radio, Far Cry, Limelight, Witch Hunt, Tom Sawyer, and now Carnies. I'm also proud that she totally loves King's X, Blue Oyster Cult, and old Gabriel-era Genesis.
  11. I like the evocative imagery of some of Caravan's lines. For example: In a world lit only by fire A long train of flares under piercing stars I stand watching the steamliners roll by And: The caravan thunders onward Stars winking through the canvas hood
  12. First post here. I'm not even a longtime reader; I just stumbled upon this place today. Pardon me if I violate any of the local cultural mores. I too voted for The Last Three. IMHO: Vapor Trails was an excellent slab o' mighty fine Rush. I'm no audiophile (and I hope to never be one; it seems like it only causes a bunch of grief), so I have no issues with the recording. Snakes and Arrows was a grave disappointment. I like Far Cry and We Hold On, as well as a couple of the instrumentals, but that's about it, if I even remember correctly. And Clockwork Angels is just kicking my *ss. Loving it! So...2 out of 3. As for the Three Before, well, most of Roll the Bones is unlistenable and I don't care for the majority of Counterparts. The bright spot in this group is Test For Echo. So...1 out of 3.
