QUOTE (likeclockwork @ May 7 2012, 09:52 PM) QUOTE (presto123 @ May 7 2012, 09:36 PM) QUOTE (cygnify @ May 7 2012, 07:51 PM) QUOTE (presto123 @ May 7 2012, 04:51 PM) QUOTE (Tony R @ May 3 2012, 05:10 PM) QUOTE (presto123 @ May 3 2012, 11:03 PM) QUOTE (cygnify @ May 3 2012, 04:58 PM) The Garden. I don't believe your facts are true. Likeclockwork said The Garden sounds nothing like what you describe and I really do think he's legit. He knew the lyrics to Headlong Flight way before anybody on here had even heard the song. He described The Garden as being a beautiful, melodic song with a theatrical feel. Cygnify would not lie. Don't mistake my banter with him for disbelief. I believe he is telling the truth. Didn't see anything in the track by track review today about a long bluesy song No, but there was one word in the description of "The Garden" that makes me believe that that's the one my friend heard - "Shuffle" "Neil lays down a simple shuffle." Judging from your avatar (very similar kit to mine as a matter of fact - down to the same color!) if you are a drummer, you know what a shuffle feels like. Could certainly be a "bluesy" feel. The fact that the review also mentions a significant solo from Alex also supports what my bud heard. My friend thought that particular one was the last song on the disc. He heard it one time, while in the studio with Vertical Horizon and, um, someone who would know, and that was his impression. Can't wait to hear this album!! OK....I'll give you a break. I missed that shuffle part when reading it. Probably not an all out blues song but maybe enough of a shuffle for your friend to describe it that way. We'll find out soon enough. There is definitely nothing at all bluesy about The Garden. Someone previously mentioned Available Light as a comparison. I guess that's not a horrible place to start and from there I'd say The Garden is Available Light meets Broadway. But there's really no way to accurately describe it in the context of Rush's catalog. It simply doesn't sound like anything Rush has ever done before. It does sound like it could fit as a part of a Broadway show - perhaps its the strings and the piano. But overally it's just a very pretty and really good melodic song with hooks and emotion. "The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect / so hard to earn, so easily burned..." As far as bluesy, perhaps he's referring to Clockwork Angels (the song)? There's a short section toward the end that sounds a bit bluesy with megaphone-like vocals in the background. I seriously can't wait to hear this album. The Garden is a Broadway type song? I'm all on that. Maybe they figured if Trey and Matt from South Park could do it with The Book Of Mormon, they could do it with Clockwork Angels!
  2. This was my thought as they did Moving Pictures in its entirety. All of MP for Time Machine, all of Clockwork Angels to support that tour. Makes sense. If the casual fans don't like it, too bad. Us fanatical fans will.
  3. It sounds like an amazing f'n song to me. A great stew of all things Rush past, present and future.
  4. Nothing Rush does will ever top Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures or even Signals. But if it can become a classic along the same lines of those 3, I'll be happy.
  5. QUOTE (FountainOfSyrinx @ May 3 2012, 10:15 PM) I'm stoked for the album as well, but honestly wouldn't put stock in anything that comes out of peoples minds. Just wait until the album comes out.. I love all Rush songs, but strongly disagree with what alot of people have to say about the band, either good or bad.
  6. QUOTE (Rush-O-Matic @ May 3 2012, 03:34 PM) QUOTE (HeadlongMark @ May 3 2012, 03:18 PM) ClassicRockProg ‏ @ProgMagazineUK Seven Cities Of Gold destined to be a new Rush classic. Riffmungous fare. Amid an album full of bristling brilliance... Um, yeah, I'm getting excited now. I totally lost $5 on the ring toss game at the Riffmungus Fair. Ha! And, just to keep things in perspective, here . . . you mean, the magazine that has a promotional tie in to the new album's release is promoting the album and giving it good reviews? Whoa. This is my shocked face. The new album and Seven Cities in particular may kick righteous ass. But, I don't think the commentary from anyone with a financial incentive should lend it any more credibility than what's been reported so far. I thought the same thing too regarding the fact that they are helping sell that fan pack. But c'mon, lets give them a little credit. Why tweet it if they really didn't feel that way? I'm not trying to be a fan boy, I'm just generally excited about this CD from a band that I've loved for over 30 years. Why does everyone has to be so cynical?
  7. QUOTE (Tony R @ May 3 2012, 02:33 PM) QUOTE (cygnify @ May 3 2012, 08:27 PM) I have not heard any additional songs, but I have a friend who is a Professional Recording Engineer and has certain connections. He has heard 5-6 songs. He doesn't care much for the vocals - described them as "predictable". However, he did mention one song he likes which he describes as "Bluesy with an extended solo from Lerxst." We shall see... I'll bet you a dollar there is no song like that on the album. Sounds like he was listening to Snakes and Arrows and the bluesy song was The Way The Wind Blows. But Tony R. sounds like he just loves to post hate towards Rush so I take this with a huge grain of salt.
  8. I truly hope this is a new Rush classic album. The buzz from those who've heard it is overwhelming.

  10. Great find! Will be picking up Headlong Flight on Tuesday and of course something for the wife (since it's for Mother's Day after all) as well.
  11. While I believe that this is part of the entire story of Clockwork Angels, I can see why people would think this is a swan song for Rush. But I don't believe it. They have at least 1 more album in them. But hey, if they call it quits after this, they've had an amazing 40 year run. But, at the same time,
  12. I love 2112. I love Headlong Flight. They were recorded 35 years apart from each other. Of course 2112 is going to sound wimpy compared to the latest technologies that are at their disposal now. And while loud may not mean good, HLF is loud and good (if not very good). To add, 2112 is a classic and is incomparable no matter how great Clockwork Angels may be.
