  1. Is this thread about weak singers or singers we dislike? Not liking Brian Johnson's singing is one thing, but prime Brian Johnson sure as hell wasn't 'weak'.
  2. thirteen

    Your last song

Roll the bones....with my skeleton doing the rap part :P
  3. I'll be honest, DT are one of the few bands that I don't do anything for me at any level. I know they can play their instruments (obviously) but everything I've heard leaves me meh... I can typically find something enjoyable in all music, but somehow not with Dream Theater. As for the most polarizing band? IMO Rush (in particular Geddy) by a landslide.
  4. Entire catalogue hey Earl... Purple? Whitesnake? I’ll take............... Rainbow. Signed, Joe Lynn Turners’ Wig.
  5. Earl, I mean Ted, just admit it is one of the best 'prog' songs ever written. A true master piece. I was a mad Jane's Addiction fan back in the day. My first proper concert was Jane's Addiction at the Hordern Pavillion Sydney. I was 16 and surrounded by all these hot goth girls. Oh man what a great night. I probably have two tour shirts stashed away somewhere. Found the set list online: September 22, 1991 Set List: Up The Beach Whores Standing In The Shower... Thinking Ain't No Right Three Days Been Caught Stealing Pigs In Zen Ted, Just Admit It... Summertime Rolls Mountain Song Stop! Ocean Size Jane Says Chip Away
  6. I've played guitar for many years. Love Alex. But you know what 'air' instrument I played at the two shows I went to? Air-mutha-f**king drums. Like a man possessed. That's the power of The Professor. :Neil:
  7. He would have been a Guitar God. And then the Flock of Seagulls era ruined everything.
  8. In addition, I have NEVER tired of listening to Alex's playing. I've only seen Rush live twice (Clockwork Angels & R40) and his playing never sounded tedious.
  9. Musicality, phrasing, melody, dynamics. Pretty much sums up Alex's playing IMO. He knows when to 'tread softly with melody' and when to 'kick the sh*t outta you with a heavy riff".
  10. Whhhhhhhhaaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhhh............................ poop!
  11. I just found a clip of Faroc 'singing' on YouTube :P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAwSBYZzbww
  12. The older I get the less I listen to metal. Amon Amarth is pretty much the only metal that has connected with me in the last 10 years. I'm more of a 'classic' rock + 'old' metal fan - Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow. Back in the 90's I also loved Alice in Chains, Type O Negative and Danzig. With the right music, there's something powerful and primal about a good growl. It just sounds and feels right. IMO Amon Amarth is currently the best example of such a thing.
  13. You forgot to ask him what it was like to replace Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple? oh wait never mind...
  14. I have tried to get into Dream Theater because of their Rush influence, but I struggle to get past LaBries' vocals. Which is kinda ironic considering that I'm a Rush fan
  15. I'm a huge Amon Amarth fan and have followed them for years. I freaking love them. You deserve the bollocking TBH. Johan Hegg has the sound and the image (and yes image is important in all forms of music) that works for Amon Amorth. Of those 3 vocal types mentioned, Bruce Dickinson and Jeff Scott Soto...hmm maybe. James LaBrie type vocals bleating their way through Guardians of Asgard or Thousand years of Oppression? Give me a farkin' break mate, you can't be serious? :scared: Heil Odin
  16. Welcome to the Rush Forum. I wish you great success with your Rush tribute. My favourite live band is an Australian AC/DC tribute band called Dirty Deeds. Great bunch of guys. Once your band finds it feet (in particular 'Geddy') you can come to Australia. I will expect nothing less than 3 hours of music...
  17. That cover was really just the original recording playing at 1.5 x speed. But seriously, any band that does a Rush cover gets my respect.
  18. Sabbath bloody sabbath. Sabotage. Volume 4.
  19. Andy Sneap should have produced Clockwork Angels. Hey, it couldn't be any worse than the job Nick R did...
  20. Dear Earl Rushhead666 For the crime of not knowing who Any Sneap is, you are hereby placed on (No) Parole (for Rock & Roll) and your heavy metal card is temporarily revoked. Signed, Graham Bonnet's false teeth.
  21. The new 'hack' is Andy Sneap. Here's an example of his guitar work... :haz: :haz: :haz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk9tWso4x8w
  22. Some great playing by Alex on Signals. Too bad Geddy and Terry Brown couldn't seem to find the volume control on Geddy's keyboards. Alex "Hey Dirk your Keyboard's at about an 8, would you mind turning it down to a 4?".
