  1. So you're going to see RADIOHEAD. Are we supposed to care? LOOK, there's websites with set lists. Go to them. Read. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT US to say?!!!~!!!
  2. There's a lot of great songs on their new album (Grace Street). This is one of the better slower songs: Something more typical of BW: And a song that's grown on me, it has some proggish elements: Here's the whole album from the beginning:
  3. For the longest time the Grammy's have been nothing more than an extension of the marketing arm of the recording industry. It's all hype to keep you tuned in.
  4. I haven't heard a Blackfield song yet that has me rushing out to buy their material. I *should* like it though, based on my other interests. "44 to 48" was okayish, but again I'm not buying the album as a result of it or the other track I've heard.
  5. I like Fall of Hearts and the prior couple before that. Their earlier stuff is a bit too straightforward metal for my tastes.
  6. There's much less of the Jon Anderson similarity on Affinity, but definitely hear it on their prior works. He tends to sign in a higher register (also like James LaBrie), but doesn't have to.
  7. Affinity got my attention. I'm not fully warmed up to their prior material, but it's all very good nonetheless. Affinity is outstanding though.
  8. I prefer the growls too, man...but it seems they only do them live now. I think Akerfeldt felt like they were repeating themselves and stuck within a formula when Watershed was released, and decided to go on a different direction since then. They´ve become proggier, and less heavy with every release from Heritage onwards. Watershed was the turning point album. There's a distinct difference that got flashed on Watershed that got fully embraced on the albums since. Fwiw, I don't seek out growly music but I can listen to most of Opeth's.
  9. H.C.E. is a very spectacular, stellar work of art. He won't top it. The new album will be very different, and won't even try to compete. However, the new album will be great as well. +1 SW is smart enough to know that you create with no baseline. Meaning, you don't try to top yourself. You write from the heart and the rest takes care of itself.
  10. New album is... well, new. It's a blend of his recent solo material and the usual BW sound. [the first song is their 'hit' for the album... not exactly my cup o tea but whatever, the rest of the album is good]
  11. Their albums vary a bit. The last one is my favorite (Falling Satellites), but it leans a bit towards the pop side. Their first two albums are, at times, much heavier and more guitar focused. But I really don't see any fan of (crossover) prog not liking any of their material. They have received good reviews on various prog sites. They're a bit of a cult thing right now, but slowly gaining traction. There's a bunch of youtube links at the beginning of the thread. I'd run with those, the material that resonates - get that album.
  12. Found this hard to believe, so I looked around for myself: Rolling Stone - #27 http://www.rollingst...l-time-20160331 LA Weekly - #7 http://www.laweekly....ll-time-5199372 Total Drumsets - #92 http://www.totaldrum...k-drummers.html Loudwire - #10 http://loudwire.com/...otogallery-1=59 The Richest - #9 http://www.theriches...rs-of-all-time/ User-voted: The Top Tens - #6 http://www.thetopten...-rock-drummers/ Ranker - #9 http://www.ranker.co...ers-of-all-time Alright then ...I don't remember hearing anything amazing from him back when I listened to Nirvana quite a lot (when I was 14) but I guess I'll have to revisit and pay more attention. Signs point to "overrated" :) Links to these lists? On Page 1.
  13. It's good stuff. Early Rush/Fly By Night -esque. There's been a small resurgence of jam rock, seems like the stoner crowd is catching on (maybe they're getting bored with Phish and Dave Matthews). Another band you might come across [similar era vibe but more on the psychedelic side]:
  14. I always liked the drumming on those earlier Pumpkins albums. But I fail to see what separates them from Grohl in terms of 'greatness'. They would seem to be on par.
  15. His work with Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures demonstrates what he can do. Not being a drummer I can't say for sure how difficult/good his playing actually is. I enjoy it. He usually injects a lot of energy into his playing with subtle flourishes. Great groove player?
  16. There's your opinion, there's my opinion, and there's the truth.
  17. I think 'to some extent'. Time will tell if Dave is marched into the studio to add his expertise.
  18. The Korn song sounds like every other Korn song I've ever heard.
  19. Meh, my vote stands. Now I know why I don't listen to the other 4 bands. lol [thanks for posting the links :) ]
  20. This thread made me realize I don't care for front men. It starts with the music, if I can't connect with that all the theatrics in the world on stage won't help me like it any more. I look at my favorite bands, and I don't see any with 'front men/women'.
  21. About where I'm at with the album. It's already left my regular rotation (faster than DM did).
  22. Youtube links would have been helpful, since I don't listen to 4/5 bands.
  23. Oh great, now we have to post responses twice on different forums? :P My guess is Dave will be a hired gun, similar to Guthrie's intended function (I think SW let him play on most stuff out of laziness). Usually once a track is nearing completion is when leads are done. These musicians cost him money for each day they're in the studio, so the more he can focus and target their efforts the better for his wallet. What this does tell me is SW will likely be playing more rhythm and if that's true, expect a more straight forward album since he's certainly no virtuoso. Probably stepping back a bit to leftover ideas from the Insurgentes era or pent-up hard rock frustration.
