  5. I love Sigur Ros, and have always felt Jonsi Por Birgisson's voice reminded me a lot of Ben Howard.
  6. I joined so I could get access to the Different Stages forum, but found the MMM sub-forum enjoyable and gradually explored the other sections of this board. I post just about everywhere, and enjoy the company of everyone here!
  7. Any fans out there? They're a great fusion/instrumental group and worth sharing! Here's some of their material for those curious:
  8. Glenn Kotche is a perfect example of a drummer who could get away with a double bass pedal, but chooses not too. It takes a great amount of skill and coordination to use one, and that shouldn't be over used. I get how metal bands like Slayer, Dream Theater, or even djent bands like Meshuggah or Periphery utelize double bass, but some bands really don't need it.

  10. I think I might be in love! That was incredible!
  11. Counterparts even though I don't have one yet. :( The tye-dye R30 is my favorite one I own, such a different print, I had to have it!
  12. Great picks! This is going to sound absurd, but I actually prefer Tweedy to Cline, at least in the soloing department. Tweedy's solos typically come packaged in exceptional tone. And speaking of Jeff Tweedy and exceptional tone, Gary Louris is vastly underrated in my book. I'm a huge Dinosaur Jr fan as well. Mascis is incredibly sloppy live, but I think that is more a nod on his part to his punk rock roots than it is indicative of a talent deficiency. His solos are always intensely melodic and memorable. Finally, good call on Thurston Moore, who deserves mention for his innovative skills and influence on countless indie rockers. And of course we shouldn't mention Moore without Lee Renaldo, right? Renaldo was sort of Moore's mad scientist foil... Good too see I'm not alone here ;) I personally love Nels, not only because I've had the chance to speak with him, but because he's such an innovator when it comes to playing! I owe so much to him, and Tweedy on the way they structure their songs! With J, again, he's almost always overlooked. But him, Nels, Renaldo, Moore, and Tweedy should all be mentioned at once do to their different (and somewhat recognizable) playing styles. Scotty Moore was the man behind Elvis IMO, and basically helped create Rock n' Roll.

  14. WHAT THE HELL IS YOLO? I see it everywhere and have no idea what it means. I'm so out of the loop. I'm going to Google now... Oh Lord. F-ing-ass teenagers. I hate it when people use this as an excuse to do dumb crap. Although I do say just to irritate every once in a while.
  15. I hate to admit this, but I have to share it. I saw the show where Oprah "These are a few of my favorite things" where she gives everyone in her audience that day a shit load of some pretty awesome gifts. Anyway, the last thing she gave away was the new Volkswagen Beetle that came out a couple of years ago. Volkswagen hadn't unveiled the car yet, and all they showed was its silhouette. Fast forward to two weeks ago, and I am at a gas station buying some sodas. As I am leaving, there is a young woman (mid 20's probably) gassing up a red Beetle. I catch a glimpse of her license plate, and it says "TX OPRAH" on it. So I'm wondering is it "Tax Oprah" or "Texas Oprah" when I realize it is "Thanks Oprah." Then it hits me, that was one of the cars given away. So I pull up next to the car and ask the girl if she was in the audience that day. She wasn't, but her mom was. How damning is this? Realizing you're born on the same day as Oprah Winfrey. "And you can have my birth date, and you can have my birth date! Everyone can have my birth date!"
