QUOTE (beherit @ May 25 2012, 11:16 PM) I believe I've made the worst thread of all time. In the words of Supertramp " Bloody well right"

QUOTE (mjohnson30 @ May 25 2012, 11:05 PM) TFE is ok. There are actually a decent number of good moments on it. I really like Totem and the title track and a few of the others. I wouldn't rank it among the top half of their albums, but I wouldn't put it in the bottom 5 either. Still with that being said I don't listen to it much. When I'm in the mood for music from that time period I'll usually put on Counterparts or Vapor Trails. right on

QUOTE (jnoble @ May 25 2012, 10:28 PM) QUOTE (Rushman14 @ May 25 2012, 01:21 PM) this I do not like. the latest from Geddy regarding a VT remix: That was an idea but it's now been shifted down. Rather than remix the entire album we might now take a bunch of different songs from albums and get different people to remix them for fun, rather than just do Vapor Trails. It's an idea in flux. I can only guess that they didn't consider it cost effective or worth their time to remix an entire album that didn't really sell well to start with and that they don't seem too crazy about in hindsight given that barely any VT songs were carried over to the more recent setlists. I am currently listening to vt again, for the umpteenth time, and i know i am repeating myself, but this album is so cool

QUOTE (rushgoober @ May 25 2012, 09:11 PM) QUOTE (TheAccountant @ May 25 2012, 06:36 PM) Away from my place and using my parents computer (which is dial up - i.e. slowww) but just had to check in. Here is my ranking using the Goober system. Please note that this may result in some figures being slightly different then if I ranked them on my own (see the Gompers poll's ranking the various albums and my responses to get a feel as to how I would rank them if not using the clearly defined Goober system and consequently more on my own). Makes me wonder how the Goober system vs. the (IMHO) slightly less clearly defined Gompers system effect overall scoring. Anyway, here we go: Rush - 2 Fly By Night - 8 Caress of Steel - 2 2112 - 10 AFTK - 9 Hemispheres - 5 Permanent Waves - 9 MP - 9 Signals - 8 Grace Under Pressure - 8 Power Windows - 9 HYF - 9 Pesto - 8 Roll the Bones - 4 Counterparts - 7 T4E - 6 VT - 1 Snakes & Arrows - 7 Without looking at how I responded to the Gompers polls I suspect my scores in those polls were higher than using the Goober system. Anyway, there you have it folks. Have a good holiday weekend. It's so funny that people are using terms like "the goober system." Nice to know you're a fellow VT hater, but dude, you're WAY harsh on their debut! Tell me what is wrong with Vapor Trails. I cannot understand the disdain some people have for this album

QUOTE (ioc @ May 24 2012, 11:06 AM) Hahaha. I'm watching Rush In Rio and I noticed it during "Leave That Thing Alone." It's an unmistakable tick. He also seems to mutter to himself (like a lot of musicians-myself included-do). I wonder if he's counting off time or verbalizing the sound he's making, like "bam, da-da, bam, bam". Neil mutters to himself, and twitches all the time

How many times must i tell you---Vapor Trails RULES

QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ May 23 2012, 08:57 PM) Likeclockwork, Really appreciate you chiming in thus far and providing some basic info on the new album in your previous posts. I believe you when you mentioned you heard it. Here are some of the most notable complaints of Snakes and Arrows and VT: 1) Poor sound production (mostly on VT) 2) Too dense and thickly layered arrangements...walls of sound...brick waveforms 3) Too many vocal overdubs...aka...too many Geddys 4) Lyrics being forced in, shoe horned 5) Lack of strong flow in the songs....plodding, dull 6) Songs sounding like they are just various parts stitched together in a clumsy way. 6) Often a lack of good melodies, hooks. Maybe there are more issues, but these are the most I remember being complained about the last 2 records. These were the most discussed complaints....not just random issues raised only by a one or a few. I would like to know if you think any of the issues above might also be complained about in CA....for the songs we haven't heard. I know some didn't feel there was much melody in HF and some thought it was stitched together awkwardly. Based on some of the reviews, it SOUNDS like the sound production is cleaner with less dense and over crowded arrangements, also verified by Geddy and Alex in recent interviews when they said they stripped down for this record. So, I'm more concerned about shoe horned lyrics, clumsy stitching of various parts, lack of strong flow, and lack of melody. I'm pretty confident about stellar musicianship, edgy playing, and Rush revisiting some of their prog past Could you please give us some insights about these areas without giving away info you dont want to or cant give away? Of course, I understand, even if NONE of the issues above are present on the rest of CA, some people will still find something to complain about and moan....which is ok....sometimes it's just personal taste.... Let's hope he answers
