  1. QUOTE (Mr. IsNot @ Aug 18 2012, 01:08 PM)Everyone has problems, and loved ones dying sooner or later is a guarantee. If you think that what Neil experienced is exceptionally tragic, I recommend talking to more people about their troubles and how they fixed themselves through it. Negativity breeds negativity, Neil is nowhere near as wise as you would like to think. Just horrible.
  2. It's truly one of their best. The ending is one of my favorite arrangements on the album, specifically the strings and/or synth. I'm still not exactly sure if it's real strings plus synth, or maybe the real string part with effects to give it that synth sound (LFO sweep). Whatever it is, it's sublime. Almost reminds me of an early 70s Genesis or King Crimson tune.
  3. QUOTE (trenken @ Aug 16 2012, 08:46 AM)Did you just mention something about a Rush tour... and pretty females? Good luck with that one. Official D**chebag Post of August 2012. Congrats! BTW, did you ever tell us why you took down your "Singing Hemispheres as well as Geddy Lee" YouTube video?
  4. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Aug 15 2012, 06:36 PM) Just as long as Neil jettisons the ridiculous big band part of his solo, he can do whatever he wants. It was cool at first, but yeah it's worn out its welcome. He should have gone with the ESL YYZ-based solo for the Time Machine tour.
  5. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Aug 15 2012, 05:50 PM)QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Aug 15 2012, 06:48 PM) somebody got banned? Tony R? Nah... , don't TEASE us like that.
  6. QUOTE (LedRush @ Aug 15 2012, 04:58 PM) I thought the discussion here remained largely civil and, seeing as it focused on Neil's specific views, focused on Neil and not politics or religion generally. Yeah, I thought it was pretty civil as well.
  7. QUOTE (Tony R @ Aug 15 2012, 02:28 PM)I'm pretty sure that Jesus would favour the Republican Party. After all, didn't his dad murder all his enemies, flood the entire Earth killing everything off and slaughter innocents?
  8. My early speculation is, if they do another studio album, Trenken, WCFIELDS, and GeminiRising won't like it.
  9. QUOTE (staunchally @ Aug 14 2012, 07:14 PM)I know plenty of liberal atheists who are "holier than thou" because they're "Oh, so smart" Aren't all liberals? I guess we know who your Staunch Ally is: http://www.theblaze.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Latino-Mormons-Romney-BT.jpg
  10. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Aug 14 2012, 07:41 PM) Boy this thread turned to shit in a hurry! Yeah, this thread makes me so happy that I don't belong to Sense O'Clock News. http://i46.tinypic.com/2wpum1h.jpg
  11. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Aug 14 2012, 07:54 AM)Republicans just don't want to force people into helping others because it means more when it is voluntary.
  12. QUOTE (Tony R @ Aug 8 2012, 02:44 PM)What a load of shite! Very poorly written, almost school standard. Great contribution, as always.
  13. I think maybe we're being punk'd.
  14. Some great pics as well! http://cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/images/books/classic-rock-presents-rush-07.2012/classic-rock-presents-rush-07.2012-19.jpg
  15. QUOTE (Jag2112 @ Aug 1 2012, 07:59 AM)For those of you who didn't pick up the Fan Pack edition of Clockwork Angels, which included a fantastic 132-page magazine dedicated to Rush, you can now read the entire issue online: Classic Rock Presents Rush: Clockwork Angels Special Edition The magazine is filled with 13 articles on the band and well over 100 photos. Enjoy! Thanks! And thanks especially to whoever put this together! Some great nuggets in here... "and, of course, the title track. It's well known that we intended to have John Cleese as a guest vocalist on that song, but when he was unavailable, some people assumed I was responsible for its rapped section. The band liked the fact that it was a mystery voice - but, of course, it was Geddy." (Rupert on RTB) I never heard that, would have been epic!

  17. Let's get a fund going to buy CA for some of the haters around here. Heck, I'd chip in $0.01 for a copy for GeminiRising. Eh... maybe not.
  18. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jul 31 2012, 10:57 AM) QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jul 31 2012, 07:54 AM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jul 31 2012, 05:51 AM) Halo Effect definitely brings the killer song sequence to a close. HYF had five great songs, but admittedly Open Secrets and Second Nature weren't quite on the same level as Force Ten, Time Stand Still & Prime Mover Give me Halo Effect over Time Stand Still. It is a fantastic song that doesn't bog down the album at all. Caravan to The Wreckers is a run of awesomeness I don't think it "bogs down the album," It's a very good song, I just think it isn't up to the level of the rest of the album (save BU2B2 which is the only truly disposable song). My favorite string of tracks from CA is... Clockwork Angels The Anarchist Carnies Halo Effect Seven Cities Of Gold The Wreckers Headlong Flight ...yes, including Halo Effect and The Wreckers. I think you've got to have some contrast in an album. Not every song needs to be a Headlong Flight or Caravan. My favorite prog albums from the 70s (Rush and otherwise) all had this contrast and diversity. And if you add The Garden to the above, I think you've got a Rush album that truly compares to their best (though still just a notch below MP, AFTK, etc.).
  19. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 31 2012, 06:46 AM) And on top of that the whole "I wish you well" meme here has gotten very annoying. In that case, the best that I can do is wish you well.
  20. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 30 2012, 05:19 PM) guess you missed my posts where i said i like tai shan, high water, and dog years. 3 songs that a high majority of people would call filler or total crap. So you like those three more than The Wreckers? And you LIKE the Dog Years chorus, when he stretches DOG out to two or three syllables? And the lyrics? DO-O-OG years It's the season of the itch DO-O-OG years With every scratch it reappears At least be consistent!
  21. QUOTE (substancewithoutstyle @ Jul 30 2012, 05:34 PM) QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 30 2012, 11:46 AM)Let's begin with the name. BU2B2. Bland. Uninspired. Uncreative. The name truly embodies everything there is to dislike about the song. It does a nice job of foreshadowing how boring the song you are going to listen to really is. When I bought the album I looked at the song list. I saw BU2B2 and thought, "why would they name a song that? What a shitty name." The name fit perfectly. It sucks. So let's discuss. What makes this song so bad? Why was it ever recorded? I don't care for it either, and always skip it. However, by being so angry and dismissive, you sound as if you're attempting to start an argument. I wouldn't mind discussing the song rationally. In fact, I agree that it's my least favorite on the album. But the tone of the OP is argumentative and insulting. Mission accomplished, I guess?

  23. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jul 27 2012, 04:53 PM) He should get a bass player from a tribute band too, so he can be completely free to become the band's caterer, thus making sure that he gets the lion's share of the food every time... As long as the tribute guy wears tight leggings and big puffy shirts and does plenty of leg kicks.
