  1. CA passes the gym/elliptical test for me. The pace doesn't fall off nearly as much as S&A, for example, and it's cool to hear the album in one session from start to finish. Still can't beat Iron Maiden for the elliptical, though: Powerslave, Somewhere In Time, Seventh Son...
  2. QUOTE (Terrapin @ Jun 23 2012, 08:33 PM)Clockwork Angels sucks.... Apologies to everybody out there who are pretending to like this thing, but the songwriting, vocal melodies, song structures, arrangements are an example of a band that are completely devoid of any ideas as regards a musical future... The mastering is so bad that the individual instruments and vocals are difficult to hear. Quite obviously, to anybody with a pair of ears this album has been cut and pasted beyond belief and not particularly well No, it doesn't "Kick Ass" and no, it's not their best since... ? To be honest, I would prefer to read the novel than to have to listen to Pearts backing band trying to come up with some dodgy music in an effort to support his narrative. "In the fullness of time" this album will go down as sucking as much as the rest of the Rush catalogue since "Signals" I remember reading on this forum how great "Snakes and Arrows" was, only to be slagged of a few moths later, once the childish euphoria wore off.. CA is truly awful... you'll all agree with me in a few years - or through the "fullness" of time... Glad to see this post getting called out for what it is: TROLLING. I can understand folks not liking CA and expressing themselves. But the language in this post is clearly intended to push buttons and piss people off. The only thing he missed is to slam CA fans as "fanbois." BTW as someone pointed out, the reaction to S&A was MUCH harsher than to CA. I was a lurker then, but remember there were MANY more critical threads about slow tempos, shoehorned lyrics, faith-bashing, yodelling, sucky album cover, Good News First bashing, you name it.
  3. Looks like Terrapin may be upset that he wasn't included.

If you're not a conservative by the age of 40, you have no brain. Here's some more eye candy for you and the OP. Maybe this will kill the thread. http://thisnotion.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/rushlimbaughcspan1.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AI_zw8VrskM/TWV27UrcH0I/AAAAAAAAAa4/q-5QIV-tZW4/s320/rush%2Blimbaugh.jpg http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2009/01/27/PH2009012701302.jpg http://www.televisioninternet.com/news/pictures/rush-limbaugh-cpac-speech.jpg http://www.addictinginfo.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/fatbaugh.jpg http://www.bellybillboard.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/limbaugh.jpg
  7. QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Jun 20 2012, 06:50 PM) I have to disagree here. A setlist of 25% or more inclusive of CA, VT, or S&A material and I'm enjoying myself elsewhere. Good riddance.
  8. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 21 2012, 11:59 AM) There's no trenken or Geminirising in the list or any of those guys like ReflectedLight and WCFIELDS because they're usually negative, critical, or they might call it pragmatic, but anyway they're too obvious as candidates so it wouldn't be any kind of surprise. Seem like this poll is seriously flawed without these guys. I want to know who the all time, most devoted, hard core, angry, bitter, dissapointed, pissed off Clockwork Angels Hater is going to be (like Rushgoober with VT), and at this point it's got to be trenken. He just seems to harbor an elemental hatred of everything Rush has done since HYF. But from your list, it's got to be Pound of Obscure as he already seems to really dislike CA.
  9. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jun 21 2012, 12:45 PM)I'm just glad it won't be me this time around - I'm loving Clockwork Angels so far! http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/rushgoober5/rushgoober2/banana3.gif http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/rushgoober5/rushgoober2/banana30.gif http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/rushgoober5/rushgoober2/banana3.gif http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/rushgoober5/rushgoober2/banana30.gif http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/rushgoober5/rushgoober2/banana3.gif http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/rushgoober5/rushgoober2/banana30.gif http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/rushgoober5/rushgoober2/banana3.gif Congrats, I'm glad you're digging it! But I do wonder if it's all just an act, and if you may turn on it at some point.
  10. QUOTE (Slack jaw gaze @ Jun 20 2012, 09:41 PM) You should find a band that hasn't put out an album you liked in 30 years. Go to their fan website and bemoan that fact several times per day for years, and pretend you could write better songs (but don't actually do it of course). You will feel better, as long as you block out how pathetic and attention-whorish that seems. Yeah, I hear that Trenken can sing and play bass as well as Geddy on Power Windows, but I've never seen YouTube clips or anything like that.
  11. QUOTE (Pound of Obscure @ Jun 20 2012, 09:02 PM) QUOTE (CantStopThinkingBig @ Jun 20 2012, 08:18 PM) Don't get me wrong, it's a good album... and it blows away S&A (which isn't hard to do). But I'm just feeling a bit underwhelmed. Maybe I expected too much... maybe it was all the anticipation. I also feel like the 3 singles we got to hear ahead of time are the main highlights of the album, so everything else is just "meh". I don't know... maybe I need to give it more time. I agree the 3 singles are the best of the album. The album is losing ground with me. First impressions were that it is the best since Power Windows. And it probably is, but that's not saying anything tremendous. Much of the decline to me may be simply the sound. I can't get past it. Two songs into a listen, no matter the starting point and I'm frustrated and kicking it out. I'm less in love than I was a week ago. I had just the opposite reaction last night, listening on good Sony sound-isolating earbuds at the gym. It's still growing on me. It's a great album for the elliptical, unlike S&A, because the pace never drags. It really goes by quickly, and I'm appreciating the album more as a whole rather then listening to two or three tracks in the car. Still trying to figure out the sound. It sounds great on my desktop Polk Audio speakers and on headphones and earbuds, but not so great in the car.
  12. Have any of the superior cynics ever teared up at a Rush show? Maybe at a certain point it hits you just how cool it is to see them again after all these years, and that this could be the last time? Nah, I didn't think so.
  13. QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 20 2012, 08:47 PM) You spend 5 years waiting for an album and you'd hope they would find a way to break away from just these standard issue rock songs they've been doing since T4E. They seem to have no idea what actually made them great which is really interesting chord progressions, vocal melodies that are very pleasing, original arrangements. Now they just write stuff thats not very different than what many rock bands are doing right now. So yeah, very underwhelmed. I cant just pretend this is some killer album like Hemispheres or Moving Pictures just because Rush wrote it. This is not the same Rush. Okay, there's #1. Next up, WCFIELDS, ReflectedLight, GeminiRising... Who am I missing here?
  14. So, ADKOT is better than CA and Van Halen is better than Rush. Gotcha! Seriously, I do have to admit that Van Halen's show was damn inpressive. Dave's voice may be shot, but he's still a master showman and entertainer. And EVH is, of course, still .
  15. QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jun 20 2012, 07:01 PM)QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Jun 20 2012, 06:56 PM) oh yeah, it's too long. Is that what SHE said? The bridge is too long, or the entire song? If the bridge, are you ? It's the best part of the song, one of the highlights of the album. Very cinematic and definitely captures the feel of the storm, a bit like Ocean Cloud by Marillion. My only gripe with The Wreckers is the transition from the bridge back to the chorus. I would have loved to have a nice soaring lead from Alex for a few bars before going back into the chorus, or some other instrumental transition. Don't really see how the entire song is too long, either. It's under five minutes. I can't tell anymore which complaints are serious or sarcastic. http://i48.tinypic.com/2cambo.jpg
  16. You know, I'm starting to think Trenken and ReflectedLight really don't like new Rush.
  17. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jun 15 2012, 10:06 AM)QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jun 14 2012, 03:26 PM) QUOTE (English Muffin @ Jun 14 2012, 02:18 PM) QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jun 14 2012, 08:14 PM) Troll Wars Episode I The Raskulinecz Menace Was going to use a TRF member name, but nah... and forsooth, it doth was hereth that the great troll thread came to an abrupt twist in the plot Sorry, didn't see that the LOTR theme was taking off. How about... The Lord of the Trolls: Return of the Clipping BTW...the poster for this movie was just leaked... http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t100/EmotionDetector/ReturnofClipping.jpg Nice! Unfortunately, it looks like the trolls are back with a vengeance after a nice break for a couple of days. Maybe this thread will distract them. They really hate the T word!
  18. The way that Geddy delivers these lines in the bridge is remarkable, one of his most emotional vocal performances ever. The second line especially... The future disappears into memory With only a moment between Forever dwells in that moment Hope is what remains to be seen Obviously, the superior cynics like Trenken and WCFIELDS don't get it. To those who DO get it, thank your stars you're not that way.
  19. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jun 19 2012, 11:09 AM) QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Jun 19 2012, 10:06 AM) QUOTE (pedro2112 @ Jun 18 2012, 10:48 PM) QUOTE (Mika @ Jun 18 2012, 09:44 PM) What kind of setlist would prevent a Rush fan from going? I'm seriously curious. Rush is pretty consistent with playing stuff spanning all their albums (though the last two tours had exorbitant S&A and MP songs), so chances are very good that they'll play something that every fan will like. And yes, the clock's hands keep moving forward, so seems a good idea to make the most of it right now. Who knows if there'll be another tour after this? GeminiRising, obviously Hiya Pedro- You are right. I wasn't impressed with the last tour's setlist, and I'm not optimistic about this tour's. But let's see what they flounder-up with this time. Kurt gotta agree with you on that one. i didn't care for the tm tour setlist at all but lets see what they come up with this time around. I can see maybe not digging the S&A setlitst, but you guys didn't care for the TM setlist? Moving Pictures in its entirety? The number one fan-requested Camera Eye? About the only dud I can remember was Stick It Out.
  20. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jun 18 2012, 05:23 PM) someone bought me a ticket already so it's a go no matter what the setlist. Maybe you should tell him you're not enthusiastic about going, and give someone else a chance who really wants to attend? EDIT: I have to mention, it would sure be a huge buzzkill to attend a Rush show with certain TRF members. I won't mention any names. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9FIjw01n_hM/TgpN8lYIxHI/AAAAAAAAFso/u4l6-b0Gk-0/s320/neil.jpg
