  1. I'm gonna sing the words "she's got" and you mad fools are gonna sing "wheels wheels of steel".....The Eagle Has Landed (or similar words at least)
  2. WOW....what a year.... I'd probably have gone for Diary of a Madman or Mob Rules.....but....if I remember which album just hit me between the eyes when I first put it on the turntable, I'll go for Breaker. Beginning of a 4-album run for Accept, up to Metal Heart. Can't Stand The Night in my list of top rock ballads
  3. Would agree that Lizzy's Jailbreak a bit over-played, and these days maybe my least fave Lizzy album, at least from that era of the band. AC/DC's Jailbreak something I seldom play, so need to give that a listen.
  4. Animalize was my first Kiss album and always special to me......but best from that period probably Lick It Up. Could only vote for one though, so went with Animalize. Being honest, I don't really rate the albums after that..too much filler for me. Revenge is ok'ish and saw them in the UK on that tour in 92. Whitley Bay Ice Rink They brought the Hot in the Shade stage set (yeah, a bit strange) and remember Gene bumping his head on the Sphinx as they made their grand entrance. Spoiled the moment a bit
  5. Maybe for nostalgia/moment in time reasons, but I would go with Live After Death. Still recall buying the album on a lunchtime from college and being in awe when I got home, gatefold sleeve plus a colour book, and that was before putting it on the turntable......"we shall go on to the end........we shall never surrender" First Maiden tour we got to was Powerslave in Newcastle 84
  6. As a member of the older generation brought up on vinyl albums, i tend to feel guilty for skipping tracks, but must admit I do sometimes. Examples, Do You Close Your Eyes on Rising, No Bone Movies Blizzard of Ozz, S & M Black Rose, Arizona Blackout, Losfer Words Powerslave
  7. Got to agree with this....daft though it seems, if I'm thinking of guitarists, I tend to forget about Eric completely, even though I have most of his albums. For me, he's a singer who plays the guitar.
  8. That would apply to my selections of Dio, Y & T and Van Halen....they all came close (Last In Line, Black Tiger and Fair Warning) but never quite matched their debuts
  9. Queen Sabbath Kiss Ozzy Dio Bon Jovi Y & T Van Halen
  10. To be totally honest, I have really tried to like Santana, because I feel that I should, ya know, but struggle a bit. I only have a few albums...Moonflower and Abraxas; and i'll have to give them another try. I'm the same with Jimi Hendrix....sorry
  11. Great and much underrated (even forgotten) band. How Midge came to fill in when Gary upped-and-offed is one of those events that, to use an awful phrase, "i can't quite get my head around". Total respect to Midge for pulling it off..but why him ?
  12. HOLY SHIT PAT!!! We agree once again!!!! I LOVE "ADRENALIZE!" After that? SHITE! I buy every album hoping for a hard rock release but fuckking Joe Blow wants pop and glam shite. "Euphoria" should have been released before "Slang." What a piece of shit. Def Leppard's "St. Anger" album. I just don't get it Pat. BUT!!! I am cranking my SHM "Early Years" Box Set tonight. HOLY SHIT! This is one of the greatest box sets ever made. PAT GET IT!!!! You are crazy Pat!!!! You must get this box set. Do I have to buy you one and ship it to you? CD Box Set Of The Year!!!!! Another thing about Leppard is they were a heavy metal band in the early 80's but now they renounce heavy metal and want to be classed as a "rock band". Joe Elliot sees himself as Sting or Michael Stipe, but he dresses like he's in Motley Crue! He's a pretentious wanker these days. They were only a metal band on the debut and even that wasn't too metal. Also, on most albums they still have some songs that call back to their metal roots like Gods Of War and White Lightning. They had catchy hooks in their songs from the beginning. All they did was expand on that as they became more popular. He's still a pretentious wanker no matter how you slice it. He's always had a bit of an ego. It comes out a lot in his interviews. Not sure if he realizes how egotistical he comes off a lot of the time. The rest of the band doesn't seem to be that way though. If anything Rick Allen should be the one who is full of himself. I can play drums with one arm, what the f**k can you do? Lol. I agree the point you're making about Joe and his ego. I've always felt Gods of War was out of place on the album....we've got feel-good/fun/pop rock songs like Animal, Sugar, Armageddon etc, with an anti-war song including Thatcher and Reagan in the middle of it..just doesn't fit at all.
  13. In common with my previously quoted "rather odd" album buying habits as a teenager, I had 5150 before all of the DLR albums, expect for 1984, which was my first VH album purchase. 5150 will always be a fave, moment in time and so forth, ya know; and still play it quite often. Still like most of it...although the Hagar "hello baby" intro has grated on me since its 1st spin on the turntable.
  14. RJD in the UK on the Magica tour in 2000. A gentleman and he signed my Long Live Rock N Roll album sleeve
  15. Yeah I wanted to try and squeeze that in but they don't have a song, just the album title. Exactly! Ok buddy I went with DOKKEN! I love that entire record!!! Masterpiece. And Thin Lizzy have Thunder and Lightning but it's too different to the other song titles for this poll. That crossed my mind too. "Thunder and lightning, God Damn it's so exciting" Incredible song. If Phil Lynott had never died in 1986 and was still around and active in music, how many more Thin Lizzy albums would he have made? The line-up would most likely have been the three core members of Phil, Brian and Scott but who would the other guitar player be on all the other albums, or would there be several guys in that spot as there always was before? Maybe Gary would have rejoined and just maybe he'd still be with us too, after his life took a different turn. However, Phil and Gary were, it has to be said, a danger to themselves, and as much as I'd love too, we can't re-write history. If Phil hadn't taken the overdose and Gary that last drink, I reckon a similar fate was still waiting for them further down the line.
  16. Hysteria hasn't aged too well and certainly an album of it's time, but it is their best album, in my humble opinion of course, with Pyromania a very close second. Not perfect though and there's a few tracks that are close to being filler.....eg Excitable. Only criticism for me as that its so multi-layered (sorry not a techi and that may sound nonsense) and over-produced, band struggle to reproduce the sound live. My favourite part of the album is the solos on Armageddon It, but live they cant get near to that sound. I wonder what would have happened to the band were it not for Mutt Lange....maybe become another Saxon....ok but struggled to break into the top division as it were
  17. My favorite versions of Stairway and WLL are the ones on TSRTS And the forest's will echo with laughter....does anyone remember LAUGHTER.......wonderful and appropriate in the world one again
  18. Tai Shan I know this is often considered the weakest song on HYF; but I think it's one of the band's best....sorry. My late father in-law was a historian with a great interest in China, and the lyrics really resonate with me, largely for that reason. "If you raise your hands to heaven, You will live a hundred years"
  19. No particular order: Don't Stop Believin Lights Still They Ride Open Arms Separate Ways Happy To Give Wheel In The Sky Who's Cryin Now Sorry only 8.....sort of like them a bit, but not a fave of mine Still got all of their albums...but that's "us" isn't it.......
  20. I Stole Your Love Purple Perfect Strangers
  21. Yeah, this was my experience, too! Thunder and Lightning came first, then I bought the Life/Live album -- that's one's actually my favorite! That got me curious about their older stuff. I voted for Jailbreak, but I'd give an honorable mention to Black Rose. Top Ten Thin Lizzy: Emerald Fighting My Way Back Cold Sweat The Rocker Jailbreak Thunder and Lightning Still In Love With You Black Rose Killer on the Loose Whiskey in the Jar As it happens, I prefer Life over Live and Dangerous for the same reason. As i said, moments in time and all that. Only regret was that we turned down chance of seeing what was the final UK tour..."no problem,,they'll reform in a few years time" we thought.......
  22. Amazing post. I totally understand! "Destroyer" was my first KISS record in 1976. It was an unwrapped album from Santa. I was only 8 years old and it changed my life. It was the first present I ran to on Christmas morning. Been a KISS ARMY member ever since. Welcome to the Forum Alpha! Some of us are over the top and obsessed with music, but were sure have a fun time on here. Hi...thanks for the kind words. Destroyer at 8 years old, wow that's some initiation To be totally honest, not only did i own Lick it Up first, I actually bought Animalize before Destroyer....but that's strictly between you and me though !!
  23. take on the world ratt invasion of your privacy
  24. Breaker, Restless and Wild, Balls to the Wall and Metal Heart are all great albums. As has been said before, hearing Fast as a Shark on the UK Radio 1 Friday Rock Show got me into Accept and went out and bought Restless and Wild within days, on clear vinyl as i recall. So has to be Restless and Wild Saw Accept on the Russian Roulette tour, Newcastle Mayfair in (i think) 1986 and still in my top ten gigs
  25. Would I Lie To You Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
