  1. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jun 4 2012, 09:45 AM) Preliminary Thoughts: strings not as prominent as i though they would be (which is fine) Yeah I think we can officially abandon the notion of an orchestra on tour...
  2. QUOTE (Xanaseb @ Jun 4 2012, 08:56 AM) What did people think of Seven Cities of Gold? Unattractive Truth likes this.
  3. Finished my first listen. Overall, very good! The only song I don't really like is Wish Them Well. The Anarchist, Carnies, Seven Cities of Gold, and The Wreckers are particular highlights, IMHO. The piano in The Garden is a very nice little surprise. I need to give a few more listens to fully evaluate. I'd say this is easily better than Snakes and Arrows (which I liked). I'm looking forward to hearing these songs live. Only 5 months to go.
  4. About half way through. So far, so good. I like The Anarchist and Carnies.
  5. I just received our VIP instructions for VH in San Jose. You should see this disclaimer we have to sign in order to get our tickets (which include a backstage tour): Do not look for Van Halen.
  6. I wasn't much of a crier, until both my mother and sister died. Those events seemed to open a valve or something. Now, I cry at lots of things. I mean, I'm not boo-hooing all the time or anything, but things move me much more deeply than they used to.
  7. Ah, yes. Walking into a room and standing there like an idiot trying to remember why you went in there. Good stuff.
  8. QUOTE (BeOhBe Bob @ May 28 2012, 12:48 PM) QUOTE (ioc @ May 25 2012, 08:37 AM) http://media.247sports.com/Uploads/Boards/785/21785/415683.jpg<"RUSH is the DEBUL!!" FTMFW!!! I'll bet they've been playin' the FOOSBALL, too!
  9. Subdivisions Distant Early Warning Natural Science The Trees Red Barchetta Analog Kid Manhattan Project Animate Armor and Sword Ceiling Unlimited I don't know what kind of stuff I'd want. Did Rush ever make inflatable rafts?
  10. "All the best bands are affiliated with Satan." - Bart Simpson I declare this thread the sole triumph in an otherwise pale and unamusing season.
  11. Making Movies is one of the Ten Best Albums of All-Time. Their first 4 albums were really good. Telegraph Road is an epic that will blow your mind. Brilliant, brilliant tune. After that they went pretty pop-mainstream, and I fell off the bandwagon. But I still listen to Making Movies and Love Over Gold quite frequently. What It Is is a great song. Unfortunately (IMHO) the rest of that album (Sailing to Philadelphia) is slow and weak. You could go on to iTunes, and buy 15 songs of theirs and make just a spectacular disc. I saw them on their Brothers in Arms tour at the old Boston Garden. Great show!
  12. I really liked The Cult back in the day. I played Electric and Sonic Temple to death. I didn't even know they were still recording. I'll have to check that out. Thanks!
  13. QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ May 22 2012, 07:46 PM) QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ May 22 2012, 08:58 PM) Unfortunately, this board software doesn't allow rep points. Good. I think this is a bad idea. Why would we want to have popularity rankings? Be cool, or be cast out.
  14. QUOTE (driventotheedge @ May 22 2012, 02:49 PM) The Wall tonight in Portland!! 12th row, floor. Have a great time! Those should be perfect seats. This is not a stadium show, right?
  15. QUOTE (Chicken hawk @ May 21 2012, 01:39 PM) QUOTE (Snaked @ May 21 2012, 12:23 PM) Here is a view from the 3rd row Stick It Out - 3rd Row Alex's side - 2nd Row Those videos are excellent Snaked! Fabulous photo Unatractive Truth Thanks for posting. Thank you! It was a great night.
  16. Telegraph Road and Tunnel of Love, by Dire Straits. In fact, pretty much every solo Mark Knopfler has ever done.
  17. QUOTE (nobodys hero @ May 21 2012, 10:34 AM) When they catch your eye they will play directly in front of you or Alex will do something goofy, it's a cool experience! Yep! http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d155/RamsATW/DSCN0150.jpg

Wait until you get a load of the recipes and how we put the new rum to the test! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! http://www.redrocker.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/gallery_large/images/blog/gi1207_087.jpg What's with the stupid hair and beards? It's time for Cooking with Douchebags! Like MD said on page 5..."and the haters will still hate" Nobody hates quite like the Sammy haters. Believe me. Relax. I was just commenting on the hair and beards part. They look like douchebags! I don't really know who the other guy is (some TV cook), but I don't hate Sammy. I didn't particularly care for his Van Halen stuff, but I don't have any strong feelings about him as a person one way or another. In fact, true story: My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, May 1992. Walking through the town we came across Cabo Wabo, and out in front it had this little A frame/sandwich board kind of thing. Written in chalk, it just said "Special Guests from LA Tonight". So I talked my beautiful bride into going. When the staff found out it was our honeymoon, they gave us a nice table, and a series of free drinks. Sammy and Michael Anthony came out on stage at about 11:00, and just tore it up. No Van Halen stuff. Some covers, Sammy's solo stuff, and a couple of Montrose songs. It was a blast.
  19. Here's one from the 4th row in Las Vegas... http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d155/RamsATW/DSCN0192.jpg Awesomeness!!

  21. Seems perfectly reasonable to me. I especially like the dog taking a dump in the middle of the whole thing. Puts it all into perspective. 16 days!!!
  22. It would have been great to be there that night. Let's hope for some sort of official video release of this show! Yes, there had better be a blu-ray coming down the line somewhere.
  23. QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ May 19 2012, 07:31 PM) QUOTE (CrossedSignals @ May 19 2012, 09:04 PM) QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ May 19 2012, 09:51 PM) New Wave and synth rock is my favorite genre of music, so naturally, that era of Rush's music is my favorite. Like others have said here, bands like Rush who incorporated synths while retaining an edge with guitars and enough "real" drums are those at the top of the heap in this genre of music. What's also great about a band like Rush is that they have other musical styles in addition to their synth era (and vice versa), so even when I'm not in the mood for synthy stuff, I don't have to look any further than Rush to have my pick of a variety of quality songs. 1 of the 7, I couldn't help noticing that you like the Fixx -- I just discovered these guys and I absolutely love the first two albums. Where have they been all my life?? They've been around, at some times more than others! They've been promising a new album for close to ten years now (Rush fans, you think YOU'VE got it bad?) and it looks like it might finally happen on July 17th. My favorite albums are the next two after the ones you have - Phantoms and Walkabout. Hope you get to hear them soon, though it's tough with Walkabout being out of print and very little available for download. Feel free to PM me with any questions about them! Not to derail things too much, but yes...The Fixx is awesome, and Phantoms and Walkabout are both great albums.
  24. Close is good. I've been in row 4 or closer the last 5 times I've seen them. What everyone else has said sums it up pretty well. When they play One Little Victory, you can feel the heat from the flames. Enjoy!
