  1. Brian (although I wasn't in the Physics club, I was in the Latin club).
  2. While we're on the subject....... Happy Birthday Jerry
  3. 1. There is (was) nothing like a Grateful Dead concert. Having seen both bands multiple times, I have to give the edge to the hippies on this one. 2. I will give the edge to Rush as far as being better musicians. Jerry, Phil, and Mickey are pretty damn good. 3. Robert Hunter is a wonderful lyricist. John Barlow ain't so bad either. My preference would be for Hunter over Peart. 4. There are plenty of other jam-band concerts where people dance like Deadheads. 5. Not only could the Dead play over a hundred different songs over a tour, they could also play them differently. Why the hell does Rush have to play the same frickin' setlist every night??? I could only imagine a Rush tour where over the course of a five night run, you'd get to hear 90% of their catalogue including all of the epics and no song repeats. 6. Nobody is as cool as Pigpen.
  4. QUOTE (Xanadude69 @ May 26 2009, 08:27 PM) Wolfmother ruled!!! and Im pissed that they broke up. any Thin Lizzy album besides 'Jailbreak' The Darkness- Permission to Land Hot Leg- Red Light Fever Social Distortion- Social Distortion I did read that Wolfmother is being retooled. While getting new members, they will be having a new album coming out. Also, they will be a 4 piece rather than a 3 piece. My listening experience tells me this is not a step in the right direction. Obscure (though not to this board) albums the public should know: Rush - Caress Of Steel Yes - Relayer Black Crowes - Warpaint Gov't Mule - Live With A Little Help From My Friends (collectors edition)
  5. My $.02 I read DVC first and A&D next. Of all 4 Dan Brown novels, A&D was my least favorite. I did enjoy the DVC film and thought the plot-line followed the book fairly well. As others have commented, to include everything would make the movie 5 hours long. Have not seen A&D movie yet. Question: In the novels, A&D came before DVC. I thought I had heard somewhere that the film setting is post DVC rather than prior. I remember in the DVC movie, Langdon seemed apprehensive and reserved about going into the elevator at the Louvre. Having read A&D, this made perfect sense. Those who hadn't read the books might have wondered what the hell his problem was.
  6. I'll probably be going to the July 22 show in Richmond (unless I'm traveling for work). Anyone else?
  7. QUOTE (Storm Shadow @ Apr 30 2009, 02:24 PM) http://byronkari.ytmnd.com/ Very nice. Thanks. Definately one of my favorite shows.
  8. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Mar 11 2009, 06:04 PM) Rupert is probably my least favorite of the producers they've used. The songs on Presto are good, but Rupert's production took all the piss out of them. They're too blah, and they don't have to be. Roll the Bones is mostly the band's fault, but again it's an unexciting album, IMO. It's neither up-to-par with the band's priors, nor does it achieve "relevance" in comparison with the other music of the day.
  9. Richmond VA getting first real snowfall in more than 2 years. Supposed to be at the airport at 6:15 am tomorrow. I have a strong suspicion that I'll be stranded there most of the day. (forecast 8-12 inches)
  10. QUOTE (Del_Duio @ Feb 4 2009, 09:21 AM) Don't know if these have been said, and I'm going by memory but.. 1) Tigers are the only other animal aside from humans that kill for the hell of it (not just for food or to protect their young that is). IIRC, they murder about 100 people a year in India alone. 2) Hippos kill more people in Africa every year than any other animal there including Lions, Elephants, etc. 3) A praying mantis holds its prey in its pinchers and swivels its head to bore a hole straight into the thing, sucking its juices out and later disgarding it (it's true, I caught one and saw it up close. AWESOME.) Animals are always great for useless fact threads. One more for me: While watching the show Manswers, the following was discussed: The only animal that engages in prostitution other than humans is: Chimps. The females will trade sex for food. (If only it were so easy)
  11. 1. Mice have no bladders (so with a blacklight you can see the urine and then track the critter). 2. Detroit, Michigan is further East than Big Stone Gap, Virginia. 3. Glass is actually a fluid (from what I've read). Apparently in older buildings the glass at the bottom of the window pane is thicker than the glass at the top. I think I'll investigate this one a little further.
  12. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Dec 1 2008, 10:48 PM) It's one of my favorite television shows of all-time! I absolutely love it! Yes, it is a crime it was canceled. Its cancellation is a perfect example of American networks and audiences not knowing a good thing when they see it! And yet, so much crap plays on for years. Great writing. Great characters. Great ensemble cast. Great show. And plenty of Rush references to boot! I couldn't have said it any better
  13. The Stoned Age - it's kinda like Dazed And Confused on about 10% of the budget
  14. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Sep 5 2008, 03:58 PM) A lot of people think Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin are bad movies. I think they're brillantly funny. I could watch either of those over and over again.
  15. Just like many others on here, this question is a total quandary. I don't know who to vote for. I've been a Yes fu an much longer and seen them live more (3 vs 1). My first instict would be to go with Floyd, but I'd have to do an album by album comparison Floyd (in order of favorites) Animals Meddle Wish You Were Here Dark Side Of The Moon a big drop-off for me at this point to others Yes Relayer Close To The Edge Fragile Yes Album Tales FTO not so big a drop-off at this point to others I'll take Animals over Relayer, but give the nod to CTTE and Fragile. Dark Side over Yes album. From there, Yes takes over. Therefore, Yes gets my vote.
  16. QUOTE (Lamneth08 @ Aug 27 2008, 01:32 PM) Im going to be odd man out and say i enjoy that aspect of the piece. It adds to the creepiness of the whole thing. Me too
  17. 1st song: Dont' remember. Probably was Bastille Day. The album was definately All The World's A Stage. I recall 2112 blowing me away and was kinda spooked by the eerieness of By-Tor which I thought was neat. When: 1985 Age: 13 What: On a Boy Scout camping trip in a tent late one night using my tent-mates walkman.
  18. QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Apr 4 2008, 12:39 PM) QUOTE (MacBob @ Apr 3 2008, 10:22 PM) QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Apr 2 2008, 06:28 PM) Since bisexuality was in vogue back when Rush was popular in the 70's, does anyone think that there were/was a sexual relationship between any of the boys? Alex sure looked like a fairy princess at some points along the way, as well as Geddy. For the record, I am not gay nor do I have any homoerotic fantasies. Please don't flame for this is a legitimate question. Thanks. Ehh, what 70s was this? The 1870s? Outside of Bowie and the androgyny scene surrounding early glam bands I would hardly call it a trend. It doesn't really matter one way or the other, but having been there I would hardly call it some kind of fad that people jumped on. Sadly in most of North America any hint of being anything but straight would buy you a free ass kicking (at the minimum). I'm going to have to agree, this might be the worst thread ever, but I'll still contribute because I am part of the problem on occasion. Without even thinking about it I can name two artists who had their careers ended because the sexuality was questioned, Peter Frampton (for appearing with the BeeGees in the Sgt. Pepper movie) and Billy Squire (for frolicking in pink silk sheets in his Rock Me Tonight video). Rod Stewart's career took a nose dive after the legendary "stomach pumping" rumor and only made a come back as a crooner appealing to soccer moms and grandparents. Sadly I know a couple people who sold all their Queen and Judas Priest stuff when their respective front men came out as gay. There wasn't anywhere near the public tolerance for gay or bi-sexual behavior in the 70s that there is now. It is far from a perfect world, but there is a lot more tolerance, or at least a lot less overt hatred, than there was back in the 70s. This doesn't make it right, but it is the way it was. Come to think of it, this question would stand up far better if we were talking about 80s pop with Boy George, that dude from Dead or Alive, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the now out Michael Stipe, etc... There still wasn't a ton of tolerance, but androgyny and 80s pop go together like Bowie and Jagger... The greater point to focus on, as a couple others in this thread have mentioned, is that it is an irrelevant question. I'm a fan of the music and don't much care what artist do in their personal lives. Deliver me good albums and solid live performances and I will pay you, contract fulfilled. Interesting stuff. Elton was pretty flamboyant back in the 70's and destroyed everyone in terms of sales and popularity. There was no doubt he was a flamer. Whether my question is relevant or not in the vast scheme of things, I couldn't care less. This thread reflects my personal question of interest. There are some people who will want to know which fingers/which hand/at what angle does geddy scratch his nutsack with, but that is their personal interest and I think its perfectly fine if someone wants to know. Screw what the consensus thinks. Screw what the consensus thinks? Other than the fact that repeated comments such as you are describing can be offensive and deemed as sexual harassment. It's very difficult to offend me, but others might be.
  19. 1st choice - Zeppelin with Bonham 2nd choice - Floyd (Wright, Mason, Waters, Gilmour) 3rd choice - '07 reunion Zeppelin 4th choice - Floyd with all of those extra 'members' on stage. Any of those options would be awesome to me.
  20. This post is in honor of my 420th post. I figured this would be the appropriate thread to post this in.
  21. QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Nov 6 2007, 06:56 PM) QUOTE (launchpad67a @ Nov 6 2007, 06:47 PM) QUOTE (apetersvt @ Nov 2 2007, 08:31 AM) Just a quick note to let you know that our brand new live DVD, Are you in the band apetersvt ? The reference to "our brand new dvd" is why I ask. I love Govt Mule btw. Just a guess.......but it looks like a copy and paste from the Mule's website? YUP. I cut and paste from their website. Warren has more musical ability in his little pinky than I do in my whole body. I do have a picture of me with Matt and Warren (so I could trick people into thinking I was in the band).

  24. I'm with you. Analog Kid is probably my favorite post MP song. As others mentioned, it has been played live recently (last few tours at least). It would definately be in my fantasy set list (and would also be the newest releast of my fantasy setlist other than wanting to hear a few of the S&A tunes live)
