Maybe hard to find a Gallien Krueger amp in that price range, though? That's not, like, 25 watts, I mean.

Of course, if you're just using it for at-home playing, that's all you need.

Sorry I'm late to this topic but if you want a good bass & amp for less than $500 I'd suggest:

Ibanez Soundgear SR300X.

You can get these for less than $300 now and they come in a billion colors. I have a dark blue one at home.

Fender Rumble 75 watt combo amp

I got this for less than $200 at a Guitar Center a couple years ago so I'm sure they're cheaper now.

The bass is really good for the price, has 24 frets, lightweight, thin neck, yada yada

The amp is plenty loud for most non-arena deals, plus you can kick it back and have it titled upwards at you so it can double as a monitor if you need it. Comes with YE OLDE OVERDRIVE button for some great sounding distortion too if you're into that sorta' thing,

thanks I appreciate it. I went with a Hartke A70 and a 24 fret Fender Jazz. Funny how much I still remember but very rusty. I think I will take lessons in the spring after I learn what i can learn on my own.
