Oracle
QUOTE (Irenicus @ Oct 14 2011, 11:44 PM) Has anyone already heard of this? http://www.wemfr.com/rush.html http://www.last.fm/music/Rush/Retail+Ready http://www.last.fm/music/Rush/Rush+Borda Another stupid name thief? Seriously? Isn't there a copyright on Rush's bandname? If so they should sue the f**k out of this dumbass asap. From the Incubus last.fm page: "There are 8 known bands with this name: 1. A popular alternative rock band from California, United States 2. A thrash metal band from Louisiana, United States 3. A thrash metal band from Georgia, United States 4. A thrash metal band from Sao Paulo, Brazil 5. A thrash metal band from Joao Pessoa, Brazil 6. A heavy metal band from the United Kingdom 7. A thrash metal band from Australia 8. A techno/rave group" From all the things I've read, none of these groups have sued each other for the name of their bands. So what's the difference here? I doubt that Rush (the band, not the rapper) is actually concerned with such an issue. They're most likely more concerned with the use of their music. trenken
The name Rush isnt exactly very original. It's just a common word, and other people can use it if they want. Rush cant trademark that name. If you want to start a rock band today called Rush you can if you want, probably wont work out too well, but if you're in an entirely different genre, like rap, then it's fine. There's another band I love called Mars Volta, who Neil is a fan of, but there is also some jazz band with the same name. It's not a big deal as long as it's in different genres. You probably dont want to use a name from a very commercially popular group, but Rush isnt really all that popular, so a rapper being called Rush I dont see as being a big deal. If his name were U2 yeah that would be an issue.
trenken
What I mean is most people who would be a fan of the rapper called Rush wouldnt have any idea who Rush the rock band is. They arent a household name. Almost everyone has heard of U2 in passing at some point, even people who listen to rap, so a rapper being called that is very different. I remember some years back seeing an Australian band called Rush mentioned in some record book, had a few songs listed, chart positions. I think they were around in the 80's, but, being a bit curious at the time, I tried to find out who they were, but never found anything about them - it's like they never existed. Which they obviously did, but they weren't listed in the internet. I didn't know they were thrash metal.
Irenicus
QUOTE (trenken @ Oct 15 2011, 06:17 AM) The name Rush isnt exactly very original. It's just a common word, and other people can use it if they want. Rush cant trademark that name. Are you sure about that? http://www.delicious-audio.com/articles/names.htm Maybe Rush already did trademark that name long ago. It would explain why (except for this new rapper) there is no other artist called Rush. Anyway, I think it's just stupid to pick the name of a pretty famous rock band. There is the internet and everyone can do a little google search to see that the name is already taken. I mean, what next? Someone calling his band Queen? That's also not exactly an original name and quite a common word aswell. Edited October 15, 2011 by Irenicus
go2wrk@95974
Yeah..exactly..what the fluck?? Shouldn't that be copy-right infringement??? ..kinda sorta?..sorta kinda??? I think so.....
sco703
It's stupid, but it is what it is. He may not even have heard of the band before anyways. Usually bands will change their names if they know of another band with the same name, but I guess that's not always the case. Pink Floyd went by a bunch of other names, and were at one point The Tea Set. Then they came into contact with a band named The Tea Set and changed their name eventually to Pink Floyd. CMWriter
Here's just my two cents: I've never heard of this rapper guy, and I'd like to think I'm pretty well in-touch with the mainstream. I'm far more peeved by "Big Time Rush" because I keep seeing them everywhere. |:<
go2wrk@95974
WHEW.....glad of that. Can you imagine, back in the 70's, sayin" right frickin on, the new Tea Set album just came out!! ..AWESOME!!!! " For some reason, that just doesn't sound right....
