edie
Has anyone ever heard these guys, and if so have you seen them recently? If not, you should. They are actually 2 remaining members with two new members (having carelessly mislaid their original singer in about 1990, and more recently their bassist) but they are now better than ever and are my latest obsession. Their new bassist is a Rush fan so maybe he even comes here sometimes. www.itbites.com I'm useless at describing music, so you'll have to listen to it yourself. If they appear near you, go and see them. Really, I insist.
treeduck
Yes, they started out as a pop band in the 80s along the lines of Level 42 and eventually revealed themselves to be hard rock/prog rock band. The guitarist was good.
edie
QUOTE (treeduck @ Mar 10 2009, 12:45 AM) Yes, they started out as a pop band in the 80s along the lines of Level 42 and eventually revealed themselves to be hard rock/prog rock band. The guitarist was good. The guitarist/singer (Frank Dunnery) had an ego too large for the country and went off to do solo projects. He was brilliant, though. Their new guy (John Mitchell) is also outstandingly good, and the band gels on stage better than they did in the 80s. I'd better go to work now I think! Rushman14
Wow, I saw these guys open for Tull in the late 80's and loved them. I went out and bought their album "Eat Me In St Louis (1989)". It's a great album but I'm not familiar with anything they've done since.

That's the only thing they have done as It Bites since EMISL, and it's fabulous.
Gompers
I've listened to Tall Ships a few times. It's decent. But if you like John Mitchell and the stuff you heard on It Bites - Tall Ships, I HIGHLY recommend Kino - Pictures and both albums by Frost*. Some of the best new Prog out there. http://www.amazon.com/Picture-Kino/dp/B000...36708821&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/Milliontown-Frost/dp...pd_bxgy_m_img_b http://www.amazon.com/Experiments-Mass-App...36708909&sr=1-

We saw Frost at the Classic Rock Society Awards a few weeks ago and I'm hoping to see them again in Leeds in June. Spent a while afterwards talking to Bob Dalton (drummer) who was receiving an award for IB. A really nice chap. Haven't listened to much Kino but as they are 3/4 of today's It Bites I'm sure I'll like them.

Very well written songs with Prog elements, especially odd meter, and great melodies. It took me about three listens and it now is one of my all-time favorite albums. hem
I was surprised to see so little interest in this band here. I was a real It Bites fan back in the 80s. "Big Lad in the Windmill" was great Proggie-pop "Once around the world" didn't leave my cassette player for months. The title track was of absolutely epic proportions. "Eat me in St Louis" was all hard rock with a twist. I didn't know they had reformed with a new singer until a few months ago, but I think "The tall ships" is their second best album after "Once around the world". I heard they have a new CD out now. If you haven't heard them, especially if you like Gabriel era Genesis, you would do well to get your hands on "Once around the world" and "The tall ships". Fantastic band. I still don't understand why they didn't become more well known.
ColdFireYYZ
I almost bought their new album Map of the Past. I didn't know that they've been around since the 80's; I was under the impression that they were a newer band. I'll have to look into them. The new release is pretty good, but one listen didn't wow me. Maybe I should revisit.

I barely remember them except for thinking that Eat Me in St. Louis was a very Spinal Tap-like title for an album.
