Bob Crippen and John Young?

Dingdingding. I'm a NASA junkie, so this woulda been easy for me. If someone knew it was the 1st Columbia flight, easy to WIKI. Also you can hear their 1st names in the comms near the end.

You're up. . .again!

Actually its easier than that...if you listen closely at the very end a tv/radio/pa announcer is heard saying " Crippen & Young really moving out now"

I know I know ...duh

1.The Beaufort scale
2.the movie  Force 10 from Navarone

Right on the Beaufort Scale. Hadn't heard about Force Ten From Navarone; the usual "other" explanation is that it was the tenth song "forced" onto HYF.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier - I spent most of the day out of the office.

No Problem... so my second answer ( re: Movie title) wasn't the correct one?

I know the story about F10 on HYF it was put together in about 18 hrs.it goes something like this... Geddy Lee (on Rockline, 10/5/87): "It was more or less an afterthought in the writing stage. We took two months to do all of our writing and preproduction, you know, preparation for the making of the record, and we had nine songs, and we had about a day and a half left of time booked before we were supposed to leave and get ready to make the record. And our producer and all of us were pushing for ten tracks on the album, and some lyrics had been submitted to us by a friend of ours, Pye Dubois, who co-wrote 'Tom Sawyer' with us in years gone by. And Neil was able to put some of his own thoughts to one of the songs that he had and present it to us in the morning of the last day that we were there, and we loved the results, so we got together and brainstormed for about 2 or 3 hours, and we had Force Ten."

nope ... ok this one has gone on for a coup[le of days so I will end it.

According to the book Visions (Rush bio) the first original song was....Losing Again. It was written by Ged & Alex but if you asked J.R. he would have said it was he and Alex.
