barney_rebel
I read somewhere that when you rip a DVD the first feature you remove is DTS (not that I rip DVDs or anything). But my question is, is Dolby DTS important? Do you hear much of a sound difference?
1-0-0-1-0-0-1
Dolby makes Dolby Digital...DTS is Digital Theater Systems, a different company altogether. DD is a compressed format, whereas DTS is uncompressed (or very slightly compressed, I'm not sure). A DTS track will take up a LOT more space on a disc than a DD track. I have "Saving Private Ryan" with DTS, and I had a copy of the DD version here, so I did a side-by-side comparison...and I could tell the difference. The DTS disc was a little tighter sounding. But if you don't have a good home theater system, you probably won't tell the difference. People who have a decent sound system and care about sound quality will probably buy their favorite DVDs as opposed to copying them. That's what I do. Jack Aubrey
I can definitely tell a difference and I prefer DTS over Dolby. It's richer, fuller, and more natural-sounding.
