He had no work after quitting Bond, he had two years with basically nothing so he took this gig. I think he had one film (The Offense) in three years in fact after Diamonds Are Forever, but it was with Deliverance director John Boorman so I suppose that's something. They filmed it in Ireland in the winter too so it must have been doubly bad to be wearing that outfit.

"At least I didn't do Zardoz."  Or Highlander II, non Marvel Avengers and LXG.

The remake was bad and how but that Razzie nod to the girl was a big mistake.  This is what kind of messed up Jake Lloyd's life.  They're just doing what the director says for them so Mr. Howard the Duck is to blame.
