LSM caught the large smallie & large largemouth as well. We're not sure who exactly had the biggest but I believe she caught the largest smallie of the season & maybe the largest largemouth as well. I had a great season with a load of bass & pickerel caught. One day, I caught 13 fish. Two were decent bass & the rest were ridiculous sized pickerel.... So, we didn't have enough picks to show what a great season we had but this was still fun. This season I hope to have another great one as well. JoenataArctica
This was back in February of 2004, i had two rods out, my medium-heavy rod with 20lb test, and then my medium rod with 15 lb test. the 20lb had a cigar minnow for bait, and a nice drunken airmen had given me a filleted mullet about a foot in length for my 15lb test. so im just chillin and relaxin and my rod was about to go over and i fought this thing for about five or ten minutes and we were all convinced it was a stingray, but then i pulled it up and we netted it up the pier. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/joeypalooza/lastscan.jpg Edited March 15, 2009 by JoenataArctica

I already have my floating holiday reserved from the 1st week of March up until the 3rd week. Depending on when the spawn hits, I will take a few days and hit it. Gonna be sticking with my main arsenal - Zara super spook and a green plastic lizard. I want to catch one over 10 lbs this year. The largest largemouth bass I caught so far was 8 3/4 lb. I use the Spook from time to time. I use the Rapala Skitterwalk more now though. I like the Scumfrog BigFoot & LittleFoot for reeds & stuff. I also like to use the Rapala Subwalk. That was weird when I caught a nice smallie on it. It doesn't walk the dog exactly like the topwaters, rather, it wobbles & you go a little slower. The smallie hit it when I was on the slight pause. I retrieved & BANG! Of note, I caught a decent sized Horned Pout. I was using a Berkley Powerbait crawdad. I thought I got caught on a rock. Wow, that thing fought well. I am dying for spring to come!!! Interesting. My brother uses the skitterwalk and I have seen him do really well with it. Yea, when I'm fishing heavy cover, I will switch up and try other top water lures. But, I have yet to find a better bait than a green plastic lizard. I just love the top water action though, so I mainly use the spook. Also, the one thing I have an issue with the Skitterwalk is that you need to keep motion or the walking doesn't work well. The Spook is the original one & still reigns over most imitations. I just found an issue with the Puppy. The hooks kept falling out. Lost plenty of fish that way. I'd like to try an Xcalibur. That design looks decent, gets good reviews. I primarily use the super spook, jr. and I have had no issues with it. I like the size, which is in between a puppy and the original spook, which I've always felt was too large. As long as I keep my line from sinking (which isn't a problem usually), I can walk it all day without problems of it wanting to dive slightly and not create the injured looking splash. I use a light 8lb test line and as long as I'm not too drunk when I'm casting, it works great! They say that if you use lip balm on the line, it will float. I haven't tried it but I believe it should work fairly well.

Der Trommler
Ok, Memorial Day weekend, LSM & I went up to the Lakes Region in NH. I fished on that Saturday & had a heck of a day. 3 bass & 17 pickerel. One bass was 2.3 lbs as were several of the pickerel (pics to come). I was using a Tru-Tungsten swimbait & a Rapala Skitterwalk. The pickerel were slamming the bait so hard, I got a bruise on my stomach! That Sunday, LSM went out on a canoe & she caught 2 bass & 2 pickerel. One bass was about the same weight as my largest one! I only caught on pickerel this day. Later, on Memorial Day, Multiplied Reaction & I went fishing. MR was catching decent sized pickerel in the backbay waters. We moved up north & fished from the docks. He caught 3 (I think) bass of decent size on a Slenko worm (Wacky rigged). Made me decide to change my slugo. At first, I was fishing it a little faster than the fish wanted. I was getting bored when a my line went taught & was running under a dock. That was about a pound of bass. We moved down a little south & this is where MR had a really decent showing. I believe he caught 4 bass & 3 pickerel. One of the bass was about 2.6 lbs. Soon after this, I caught 2 more bass. One weighed in at 3.25 lbs! I'm not much of a finesse fisherman, but I learned that there are times that you need to fish that way. Overall, it was a great weekend. WTG for MR & LSM on their catches. Hopefully, I got some pics to share with you.

Der Trommler
I'll be posting a few more fish shortly. There's a small pond right next to my complex. I've caught several pickerel & bass (1.5 pounder). Yesterday, after work, I decided to hit it again. Along a shoreline I cast out, as decent largemouth tries to hit my frog. I throw it out again, this time, he hits it but I couldn't set the hook fast enough. I throw it out again, he follows the lure almost on land & I can see his outline on the top of the water. I change up to a Slug-Go. I throw out & my line gets a little fouled up. I fix it quickly but notice the line is moving. I set the hook....What a fight. It felt like a log until I saw this guy jump out of the water & hook off I think it would've been about a 2.5 to 3 pounder. I tried several times after that but he was spooked & didn't chase again. This pond is a definite place to fish when I can't go up north. Soon...I hope
goose
Went fishing this summer for the first time in 21 years. After getting skunked three days in a row, a storm came in and the bass starting hitting. Caught 7 in two hours, kept three and grilled them up. Packing for the trip home I was given two fly rods as gifts, including a 50-year old bamboo model!
ReflectedLight
I use to like salt water fishing on Long Island but the fishing here is dead. I remember when I was a kid I use to enjoy it and come home with dinner. There are shortages and higher restrictions. Fishing off a party boat is a waste of time and there aren't many fresh water spots unless you want to travel a bit. Now I just throw my crab cages in the water. Der Trommler
Well, since that last post, I cast in the same place again. This time, I reel in a nice 1.25 pounder. It's not the same one but that area has some decent fish. A little later, I toss out the Slug-Go again. grabbed a decent 1.75 pounder (pic in a bit). The area is brimming with fish but there are plenty of areas in this pond that I see some massive wakes! I can't wait to get a boat on this place & see what else I can catch. Oh, there are a good portion of submerged logs, I've lost quite a few worms. Luckily, I'm using them & not any lures!
