  1. I know that you can buy Neil's drum sticks on line...I picked up a pair of the Time Machine sticks from the Rush site, but does anyone know of a way to buy the guitar picks that Geddy and Alex use on their tours (other than eBay)? I'd love to start a collection of their picks, just don't know where to start :-)
  2. QUOTE (gregmsws @ Mar 6 2011, 10:24 AM) What about Meet and Greets- I assume they will sign items- but your almost better of to send the item to get Neil to sign....I'm new here what do you guys think? I havent been to a meet and greet, but I have heard that they don't sign at them, only take pictures....and it all happens very quickly.
  3. I got to meet Geddy back in 1988 when he was promoting Hold Your Fire. I was working in a studio where syndicated radio programs were recorded and Ged was in to do an interview with Scott Muni. After the session he signed an album for me and spoke to me for a few minutes. I have never forgotten that day. Last year, I was fortunate to be able to attend the premiere of Beyond the Lighted Stage in NY. I sat in the front row and was like 5 feet away from Geddy and Alex as they spoke before the film (I had a better seat than Sebastian Bach :-). I had really hoped that they would take the opportunity to meet and greet some fans at the premiere but I understand why they didn't. As a fan, I respect their privacy and appreciate that they do all the things that they do for fans (like signing the things that their fans send to them, which is more than most bands do) but lets face it, they don't owe their fans anything...their body of work is their gift to all of us :-)
  4. Really awesome pictures, thanks for sharing!
  5. QUOTE (Janie @ Sep 29 2010, 12:17 PM)http://i378.photobucket.com/albums/oo228/LifesonPics/Picture1861.jpg I also have my signed MP album cover framed too and hanging next to the tour books. Those look amazing! Congrats!
  6. I sent an album to 1 venue, got it back signed...but in rough shape because the post office thrashed it on the way back (my own fault for not reinforcing it with enough card board to keep it safe) So a few weeks later I sent a different album into a different venue, this time with a lot more protection and I was luck enough to get that one back in much better shape. Is it opportunistic to have done that? Some may think so...I mainly just wanted an signed album that didn't look like it had been dragged down the street tied to the back of a pick up truck. The third album I sent was addressed to a friend (the bass player in my band) with a letter that I wrote on his behalf to be mailed back directly to him...I did this as a gift for him because I knew that he wouldn't think to do it for himself...I wanted to something nice for a friend. So in total I sent three different albums to three different venues this tour. I am extremely grateful that all three came back signed. I really don't see this as greedy, opportunistic or in any way taking advantage of the kindness of the band....but that's just my 2 cents. Would I do it again in the future? I am not looking to have a collection of signed albums...so probably not for me...but my 11 year old son has already asked me to send in a copy of 2112 for the band to sign for him...I told him we should wait until the next tour :-)
  7. I agree it would be a shame not to release a DVD of this tour. The video intros and concept are awesome and should be released in DVD / blu ray quality for the fans rather than having to watch them as you tube clips..plus, they probably wont ever do the full MP album again, so it would be really nice to preserve this show for future generations who will never get to see them play it end to end. Then again...I would buy a DVD of every tour if they offered them!
  8. I am home from work today, and saw the mailman pulling up to the house so I went outside to greet him. He said, "Mail's lite today, only one piece" then he pulled out a familiar looking envelope...sure enough it was the album I had sent to the Pittsburgh show in the postage paid, return envelope. So yes, the venue did forward the mail to the band!!! I got my vinyl copy of A Farewell To Kings signed the band, personalized to me and I couldn't be happier :-) I have had great success this tour, 2 signed albums for myself and one for a friend. I think is amazing that they take the time to do this, it's just another reason that they are the greatest band in the world!!! http://nyaj.com/images/misc_files/af2k.jpg
  9. QUOTE (PennSt8r @ Sep 18 2010, 06:36 PM)Got my MP tour book back today signed. Guess Consol in PGH DOES forward items to the artists. I am happier than a pig in s...!!!!! Not sure how to post the photo. I really hope I get the copy of A Farewell To Kings that I sent to Console back signed. This gives me some hope as well!
  10. QUOTE (SeaTurtle @ Sep 19 2010, 08:05 PM)I'm not sure about sending a note with it, though, and am wondering if I should bother since it seems they aren't being read. I would definitely recommend sending a note. I sent a note in my album and in an album I sent in for a friend, both albums came back signed and personalized :-)
  11. My personal favorite part of teh interview... "I've been working with Gibson on putting together a Les Paul Axcess model, which would be an Alex Lifeson signature guitar. It'll have the Floyd Rose, the piezo pickup in the bridge and single-coil taps in the volume pots. Basically, we've taken everything you could want in a guitar and we're putting it into a really true utility instrument in a fantastic platform." As a life long fan of Alex's and as a guitarist who missed out on his ES335 signature model. I am really excited for this one...hope they announce it soon!
  12. I posted this in the other autograph thread as well...but: I mailed a copy of Permanent Waves to the Utah show. I got back from vacation last night and this was waiting cor me...the post office beat it up quite a bit (probably my own fault for not supplying more rigid packing material) but I am still really happy with it!! http://nyaj.com/images/waves.jpg

  14. QUOTE (yyz98 @ Jul 26 2010, 12:32 AM) Barry, What kind of camera do you have? Very nice shots. Also can you share your settings to achieve them? I know there is a thread for hints on cam settings. Thanks!! Glad you like the pictures. I took about 80 to get a good 30 shots. My 11 year old son used it to shoot video of Overture / Temples ...the sound is amazing but the video is so shaky it could make you sea sick. He did get some nice footage of the guy in the hot dog suit pushing the shopping cart over to Geddy's amps though :-) I used a Canon Power Shot SX210 IS. My wife got it for me this year for Fathers Day. I wanted something that had a good zoom and took good pictures in low light and this camera was recommended to fit that bill. I used the night snapshot setting with the flash off...and that was it, no additional tweaking
  15. I uploaded a few of the pictures I took last night at the Jones Beach show to Flickr.
  16. I was there, section 5R. I have been to 14 previous Rush shows (my first was Grace Under Pressure at MAG) and I have to say, I have never seen the band perform better. Geddy's voice and bass playing was top notch, Alex was on fire and Neil was as perfect as ever. No complaints about the set list...and while it has never been a personal favorite, I have to say that Marathon was the highlight of the night for me...simply amazing!!! Loved the show, and so did my 11 year old son...it was his first Rush show. The band never disappoints, they just seem to get better with age!
  17. I met Geddy back in 88 during an interview for the Hold Your Fire Album. Got him to sign HYF for me, but always regretted that I didn't have a copy of Permanent Waves with me (my all time favorite album) for him to sign. After reading this thread, I decided to try my luck, so this morning I mailed a vinyl copy of Waves to one of the upcoming shows in a padded envelop with a note to the band and another padded envelop with postage paid and a return address label already on. Hoping to get it back signed, figured it was worth the $12 investment...I'll let you know how it turns out :-)
  18. I am taking my 11 year old guitarist son to the show at Jones Beach tonight, his first Rush show...my 15th Rush show :-)
