  1. QUOTE (The Owl @ Apr 7 2009, 10:20 AM) QUOTE (yyzyy @ Apr 5 2009, 10:28 PM) HURRY UP WITH THE NORTH AMERICAN TOURDATES!!! Portnoy mentioned that the North American tour probably would not happen until early next year... He mentioned on the eddie trunk interview that they are going to do the prog nation tour first, then start the BC&Sl tour in Europe.. So they won't be here for the BC&SL tour until early 2010 July and August for ProgNation 09 So far the only date confirmed is August 29th in Los Angeles.

Their influence on metal is arguably unmatched to this day. Also, Master of Puppets is considered by many to be the greatest metal album of all time. No reason Metallica should not be in the Rock Hall. Oh, and if making crappy albums is what it takes to get into the hall, then Yes should have a one way ticket. They made some really, really shitty albums after Relayer. Kiss, Rush, Yes, Kansas, Jethro Tull, Styx, Journey, just to name a few are not in. Why ? Because they did not become cartoon characters, who attention whored there way in. "attention whored their way in"........ Dude, they are one of the most important Metal bands of ALL TIME. That is a fact....... Yeah so ? Who gives a shit, thats not why they are where they are, and you know it. Read my last post. It makes perfect sense. Examine what your saying for a minute and think hard... The "rock and roll hall of fame" just inducted Metallica.... Say it again. Now say it again. Meditate on it. Now read my last post again. Your trying to give credit to a joke museum for getting something right ? Meditate on that. Its bullshit if you think the reason they put them in is because there astute enough to recognize the brilliance of such an important act. You know its bullshit ! The same jackasses who have Ricky Nelson in, and Rush on the outs. Yup, thats credible ? Is it a little clearer now. Are you going to contribute something new to the argument, or are you just going to keep acting like a broken record, repeating the same thing over and over again? So you don't like that Metallica got inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and that Rush hasn't. We get that. So you think the HOF is a joke. We get that too. Here's something I want you to meditate on: WHO THE f**k CARES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! It's just music. It's subjective. My ying to your yang. I could sit here and give you an argument as to why I think Mario Lemieux was a better hockey player than Wayne Gretzky, but I won't because it's pointless to and it wouldn't accomplish anything. Why should you care who gets into a Hall of Fame that you keep calling a joke? Should it really matter that much as to who is inducted and who isn't? QUOTE The "rock and roll hall of fame" just inducted Metallica.... Say it again. Now say it again. Meditate on it. Now read my last post again. And if you really want to get technical, Heavy Metal is a genre that traces it's roots back to Rock N Roll. So technically, any metal band that gets inducted into a "Rock N Roll Hall of Fame" would be deserving of the title and the honor. That didn't seem to stop them from inducting Black Sabbath, now did it? Gretsky was better then Lemieux. No arguement there. Your an arrogant person Kaz, and if you don't like my opinions, tough shit. This coming from someone who refuses to take the other side of debate into question. Kazz hit the nail on the head with everything he's said thus far, and you've come back with nothing but the same old bullshit argument time and time again. Their pre Load material is what made them so well known in the public eye, it's what made them big enough for people to give a shit about them making Some Kind of Monster. You're too arrogant to realize that an artist's "shortcomings" in recent years does not by any means discredit their past work and influence on a genre. You claim that Yes should be in the rock hall, yet they completely conformed to pop culture with albums like Tormato and 90125. Should this discredit classics like Fragile and Close to the Edge? Of course not. I'm not one to bash on others simply based on their opinions, but when your defense has nothing but contradictory support backing your claims, you bring it upon yourself. I don't care who you think is right. Your all missing the boat, and the point. I will repeat. Without them posturing to be pop icons, they aint in yet. The whole forum can disagree for all I care, but it woudn't make you right. Oh, and Kazz is exactly what I said he is, and I care not if you agree with that either. When it comes to music, Puppethead, and Kazz are two of the most smug and arrogant on this board. Thats my opinion and once again. I can give two shits if you or anyone else agrees. I absolutely love the fact that you had to change the subject of the argument to me and puppetking being arrogant. That just goes to show how stupid this argument really has become. It seems like you're taking this a little too personal buddy. Maybe I'm wrong, in which that case I would love to be proven wrong. Seriously? I'm arrogant? That's the best you can come up with? I dunno. I've studied music my entire life and I make my living based around music. Maybe I am arrogant. I'll take it as a compliment if I am. I could easily turn around and say the same thing about you, because you've most definitely shown qualities of arrogance, but I won't. Why? Because it's silly and childish to do so. Again, I'll ask you this question because you keep dancing around it and not giving a straight answer: Why should you even care who gets in to the HOF when you call it a pile of crap? QUOTE Raise your hand if you think Nirvana will make it into the RRHOF before Rush. Me. I did answer your question Kazz. I said, I hate the fact it is a pile of crap, and want it to be what it should have been. Thats why it bothers me. The reason I call you arrogant is because you have made your snide comments in the DT thread for years, just as you did in this thread. As far as you being a musician, what bearing does that have on your opinions ? That makes them more relevant then a non musician ? I've been a musician over 20 years, I guess my opinions just got more relevant. Its nice that you think your taking the high road, but your post was still arrogant. And what I said about Dream Theater 4 years ago has what to do with what we're talking about now? Oh yeah, that's right. My arrogance. Like I said, maybe I am arrogant. That's just the way I am. Too bad if you don't like it. As far as me being a musician has absolutely nothing to do with the relevance on my opinions. It just shows how big of a part music plays in my life. When I listen to music, I'll sit down and analyze it. I'll break it down. If I think it's good then I'll say it. If I think it's bad then I'll say that too. Sure, there's a lot of bands out there who I think don't deserve all of the awards, album sales and overall credit that they're receiving, but that still doesn't take away from the respect I have for them as a musician. Why do I have respect for them? Because they're up there doing something they love and receiving awards and honors that I probably will never receive in my lifetime. Like James Hetfield said in his acceptance speech (or was it Lars?): The Hall represents achieving your dreams. As much of a "pile of crap" it may be to some, it's still a huge honor to be inducted into it. Why? Because your name will live on forever.

  5. QUOTE (tick @ Apr 6 2009, 12:18 PM) QUOTE (kazzman @ Apr 6 2009, 01:05 PM) Why do people call the RnRHOF a pile of crap Read the list of its enductees. Nuff said. Ok, fine. I'll play devil's advocate here with this one... http://www.rockhall.com/inductees/alphabetical-list/ Its pile of crap, huh? Sure, there's a few of the artists in here that I don't agree with myself, but regardless of your musical "alliances" here, most of those people do deserve to be in the HOF. Why? Again, not because of their popularity, but because of their influence over the genre. Look at AC/DC,. Not the most technically proficient band out there, but they had a formula and stuck with it. It sold them millions of albums and they've influence thousands of other bands over the course of time. They didn't make a reality TV Show or reality style movie. They never became pop icons or cartoon characters. Yet they got in. The Beatles did all of that (except the reality TV show of course). Do they deserve to be in there? Absolutely. QUOTE When a band like Rush in on the outside looking in, but some old blind black blues artist who played the washboard is in, its a joke, and a travesty, and deserves to be mocked on a daily basis. And this said while failing to realize that without this "blind black blues artist who played a washboard," then you wouldn't have rock n' roll. Period. Now, to those who complain about the HOF, I want you to sit there and think about this for a long time. If bands such as Rush, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Styx, and Kiss get in, will you sit there and still proclaim the HOF a joke and a travesty, or will you finally shut up and stop complaining like a little kid just because you finally got what you wanted? "It annoys the hell out of me when I have to log onto youtube, myspace, facebook or some internet message board and see some moron going 'well this band sucks.' Don't you people realize that music is art and art is subjective? There is no right or wrong." Want to know who said that? I'll give you a hint. It's from a drummer who's a member of one of the bands that is currently not in the HOF.
  6. Why do people call the RnRHOF a pile of crap, but then complain about Rush not being inducted? Same thing goes with the Grammy's too... I can see exactly why Metallica was inducted. I can also sit here and make a good point on why Rush should be inducted, but I won't. The big reason why Metallica was inducted is simple. Their influence and impact on the heavy metal genre. Think about it. When you go up to 90% of the bands out there today within the metal genre and ask them who a big influence on them was, I can guarantee you that they'll list Metallica as one of them. So what if they've released a few bad albums over the last 20 years? So has Rush. It happens to every band.
  7. So I've been assigned to review Chaos in Motion for the webzine I write for. Expect my long overdue review in the coming weeks.
  8. QUOTE (tick @ Feb 24 2009, 09:50 AM) QUOTE (JoenataArctica @ Feb 24 2009, 01:03 AM) i hope there new album is better than the last one, i was kinda dissapointed with the last one. i might have to give it another listen. The last album was incredible ! One of there career best, imo. I would strongly suggest a few more listens. Its bound to connect with you at some point. Eh, the only songs that I liked on there was In the Presence of Enemies I & II. Other than that, it just seemed like (to me anyway) that they were trying too hard to regain their former glory. I dunno. I've tried and tried to get into the album, but just can't. I'm really optimistic about their upcoming one. I hope it will be a good one, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
  9. QUOTE (Del_Duio @ Feb 23 2009, 11:56 AM) What's with Pornoy's snare drum sound? It sounds like he's playing an electric set or something. Well... the producer did insist that he use an electronic snare for I&W...
  10. Eh, the only movies I'll be comparing to each other are: The Dark Knight and Watchmen.
  11. finally on blu-ray! http://www.superherotimes.com/newsarchive/tdkbrBatman.jpg
  12. Just got a Blu-Ray player so I picked up both of these for it. 13. QUOTE (Necromancer @ Dec 18 2008, 12:38 PM) QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Dec 18 2008, 01:08 PM) I recall reading shortly after 'Begins' was released that Nolan said "Robin is out there somewhere but he's still in diapers at this point". Nolan's wrong. In current continuity, Bruce meets Dick Grayson around his third or fourth year as Batman. And by the time that he trains him to become Robin, the kid is only about twelve. The only thing that the previous Batman films did in regards to Robin, was that his origin is revolved around Two-Face. Anyone who has ever READ Batman on some continual basis, knows that the Robin story is crucial to the development of Batman, as an orphan (survivor of a violent crime) becomes the mentor (adoptive father) of another orphan who shares many similarities in how he was orphaned. If done well... I can't see why there is so much opposition to this. I think too many of you are only aware of the movie and tv series storylines. Schumacher nearly single-handedly destroyed Batman and Robin, and the series was no better. In current comic continuity, this storyline is awesome. I would even LOVE to see how Robin grows to manhood and eventually decides to break from Bats, thus becoming NightWing. The Robin stories are fantastic. They just haven't been done well yet. If Nolan is as good as he and everyone thinks, he may just be the man to do it justice. Ok... you do realize that The Dark Knight takes place only a few months after Begins does, right? Not years. At the rate of Nolan's continuity, we won't see Robin for another 2 or 3 movies. Now, the story of Robin is important to the Batman mythos in the comics. But last time I checked, this was the movies, not the comics. And yes, Nolan has stated that he tries to stay as close to the comics as possible, but you also have to realize that he's also grounding the stories in reality as much as possible. The reality of a 12 year old kid dressing up and fighting crime is about as plausible as me pulling an AK-47 out of my ass. And remember, if Nolan wanted to be 100% faithful to the comics, then Ra's Al Ghul wouldn't have died, Dr. Crane would have been a professor at Gotham University, Dent would have been burned by acid and the Joker would have been permawhite.

  15. 2/25/09: Avenged Sevenfold @ The Petersen Events Center, Pittsburgh PA (Hey, my friend got two tickets and needed somebody to go with and practically gave it to me) 3/4/09: Joe Bonamassa @ The Palace Theater, Greensburg PA 5/3/09: Nightwish @ Crocodile Rock, Allentown PA 5/10/09: Queensryche @ The Palace Theater, Greensburg PA And that's what I've got lined up so far next year. More to come I'm sure.
  16. SPOILERS!!! Do not click or read the title of the link below if you are avoiding spoilers. Has Heath nailed it or what?!
  17. Now THATS how you open a movie! Saw this back with I Am Legend on Imax in December (hell it was the only reason I even went to see that movie). Still love it even after watching it endlessly online when it surfaced. God I can't wait for this movie...
  18. I'd have to say that this is by far the best of the TV Spots that I've seen so far... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4yvmmFT7A0
  19. I think my avatar and signature speak enough regarding the film... July 18th can't get here soon enough...
  20. So... here's the first official "look" at Two-Face http://www.whysoserious.com/myhero/
  21. Just got back from seeing this. MUCH better than Ang Lee's piece of garbage. So far I'd rank it slightly lower than Iron Man in the comic book films released this year list. The end sets you up for a sequel almost as good as Iron Man did (and in the same vein too). But don't bother staying after the credits for there's nothing there this time. Now... bring on TDK.
  22. QUOTE (raygun47 @ Jun 13 2008, 12:31 AM) I LOVE Dream Theater! I'm going to try and avoid talking them up because my bias is far to great...but I had to get that out there. I feel better now. By all means, go for it. I'm gonna get a kick out of all the people rushing in here to try debunk your points and telling you you have no taste in music for liking DT. Oh and for the record: my views on DT have done a complete 180 degree turn since I first posted in this thread...
  23. QUOTE (Necromancer @ May 30 2008, 04:34 PM) QUOTE (edgyspice @ May 30 2008, 05:17 PM) That pic looks great! Still wondering what the final product will be like. I really love the graphic novel, and I wasn't a fan of 300. I'm hoping they won't dumb it down too much. Almost a guarantee. The bastard thing about comic/movies is that they aren't MADE for the comic book fan. The premise is that the comic fan is a guaranteed dollar for their movie. The movie is made for the average movie goer. Most people are not comic readers. They usually feel that comics are for kids and that they won't waste their time reading the "funny books". Except for Batman Begins/the Dark Knight
  24. QUOTE (HemispheresserehpsimeH @ Jun 4 2008, 12:32 AM) Someone recommend me some Nightwish. Very curious about them. Dark Passion Play. It's their newest one with a completely different singer. It's also their best, IMO. If you want to hear something with Tarja on vocals then, try Once, Century Child or Wishmaster.
