  1. QUOTE (Indica @ Aug 28 2004, 12:21 AM) I am going with New World Man since that's what I am. I'm a rebel and a runner. Beat that
  2. QUOTE (Xanadu93 @ May 3 2010, 04:00 PM) I was looking at In Absentia by Porcupine Tree in the iTunes Store, and both the official review and several listeners' reviews got me interested in possibly buying this record. You all know that I bought The Incident the day it came out, and eventually listened to it a few weeks later, and wasn't too impressed (in fact, kind of bummed that it wasn't that "good"). Even though it didn't impress me that much, I feel like I should give it another listen and see if I'll like it more this time than last time. If it doesn't do anything (or even if it does), is In Absentia a good record to get next? I'm not necessarily looking for their "best" because I'll get different responses, but one that's a little more listener-friendly. I'm in love with Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream, but it's up to you

  7. QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Apr 22 2010, 09:25 PM) QUOTE (Handle With Kid Gloves @ Apr 22 2010, 11:04 PM) QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Apr 22 2010, 08:58 PM) No...Anagram is one of the weakest songs that Rush has ever recorded. Not bad, per se, just "weak" in terms of Rush standards. Of course, there's the whole first album... It may be weak but I love it Like I said, I don't think it's a "bad" song. I just think that they have recorded much better. I like the whole Presto album, I just think the production was weak. Just my opinion. Songs=great; production=weak. Feel the same way about Roll The Bones. I think that Rupert Hine was just a producer that didn't do justice to the music. I think I agree, I like the songs themselves off both of those albums
  8. FFS. clicked the wrong subforum >.< sorry, could somebody please delete this?

  10. QUOTE (Pags @ Apr 22 2010, 06:52 PM) QUOTE (xXDreamlinerXx @ Apr 22 2010, 09:09 PM) It's in there. Either that or my hearing is completely off. You really gotta listen for it. Sorry, but I always thought the 'heys' were glaringly audible. Keep trying if you can't make it out. It's definitely there. I love the 'heys'! They come just before the first and second verses. Very cool. If I may also add another interesting sound in Chain Lightning, there is a slight snare-like sound at the 0:03/0:04 second mark. It's very slight, and lasts 1/3 second at most, but it's there. Crank up those headphones for this one, and listen tight. I heard the snare-y sound, still nto hearing the "Hey".. wonder if my hearing sucks Oh wow. I wasn't listening for something spoken like that, that scared the crap out of me lol. safe to say I heard it though
  11. that would be awesome if they opened with it. but the general consensus seems to be no

Downloaded the discog now. I'll give it a listen tomorrow If you're digging Stupid Dream then just start there. The band gets "heavier" after Lightbulb Sun. I was listening to The Incident all day today. Just took it off repeat, I like the feel it has Wow...that's quite a jump! The Incident isn't their most accessible or non-fan-friendly record, so glad you enjoyed it!! If you really enjoy what you're listening to, order the Arriving Somewhere DVD from amazon or some other such place. Great to watch live. Going to see them this next Wednesday for the first time. I'll be sure to do that as soon as I can get another pre-paid visa.. being 16 sucks Next things to buy: P/G shirt AFTK shirt Arriving Somewhere DVD
  13. I'm near Burnaby BC and can't make it to the Seattle show as I don't have my license or a valid passport hoping they come to Vancouver in 2011 though
  14. QUOTE (xXDreamlinerXx @ Apr 22 2010, 11:49 AM) Something I've always noticed in Chain Lightning. During the verse, where Geddy's playing chords, I can very faintly hear someone saying "Hey! Hey! Hey!" I first hear it around 0:21, and it happens at those same parts in the song. Something to look into... I don't hear it
  15. QUOTE (sullysue @ Apr 22 2010, 06:01 AM) QUOTE (Handle With Kid Gloves @ Apr 22 2010, 12:06 AM) I've never heard anything by PT, what would you suggest for somebody new? edit: came across Pure Narcotic on youtube, love it. Downloaded the discog now. I'll give it a listen tomorrow My suggestion would be to start with Stupid Dream and work forward in their catalog. (Maybe even start at Signify, the disc prior to SD.) If you really get into those, go back to the discs prior to Signify, where Wilson focused more on techno and atmospheric music. Before Stupid Dream, Porcupine Tree was more of a one-man-act with Wilson at the helm. He would bring in other musicians to contribute to those earlier CD's. But, PT wasn't fully a band in the proper sense until after Signify. You'll notice a distinct progression through different phases as you move through their catalog. Have fun discovering their music. I'm sure you'll love them! Thanks for the info, I'll check out more when i get home

  19. 4:51 in The Necromancer, love the way Geddy's voice sounds.
  20. Why can't Rush come to Vancouver?
  21. QUOTE (Pags @ Apr 19 2010, 08:44 AM) QUOTE (Handle With Kid Gloves @ Apr 18 2010, 12:37 AM) The intro to New World Man ( I think it's bass? ) all of Malignant Narcissism, especially the little breaks where Geddy just does his thing The Drums in War Paint the industrial noises at the beginning of Force Ten the weird little laugh, also at the beginning of Force Ten The thing I love most about the drums in Warpaint is how Neil concentrates on the high toms for the fills in the first verse when the lyrics describe what the girl is doing - then concentrates on the low toms in the 2nd verse when describing the boy. It's very, very cool.
  22. Middletown Dreams, Manhattan Project as a very close second
  23. QUOTE (invisibleairwaves @ Apr 18 2010, 09:37 PM) QUOTE (Handle With Kid Gloves @ Apr 18 2010, 09:17 PM) QUOTE QUOTE (Handle With Kid Gloves @ Apr 18 2010, 09:01 PM) QUOTE (invisibleairwaves @ Apr 17 2010, 11:56 PM) Dear Handle With Kid Gloves: Holy shit, another Vancouver TRFer! Signed, Surreyite-in-denial I'm from Port Coquitlam Cool. The only other Metro Van member I know of is *Limelight*; I guess there aren't too many big-time Rush fans around here. Pretty crazy year for the city though, eh? yeah, I somehow managed to stay out of it all though, didn't go downtown once I tried to get down as much as I could, just for the experience. I've got a ton of pictures from it that I've been meaning to post, but I guess it's kinda late now. I got to watch the gold-medal hockey game from Robson Square...holy crap, it's a good thing we won; there would have been one hell of a riot if we lost I'm not a very social person and I hate crowds, was better for me that I stayed home
