Maybe for the actual film they'll license that from Rush and use it in that sequence... Movie looks interesting... what is bothering me the most is Kirk seems totally wrong, and looks like he wants to kiss Spock half the time. Maybe this new film will break ground just like the series did with first interracial kiss, except this time will be Spock and "Kirky" locking lips. You thought the Vulcan mind meld was freaky, wait til you see the tonsil meld... Ewwwwwww. Oh wow hahaha. You are aware of the whole K/S subculture within Star Treks female fanbase, yes? Thats all I'm going to say. Haha! I wasn't aware but I guess it shouldn't surprise me! Me? I guess if Troi and Uhura were in the same series I'd probably fantasize about *that* so who am I to judge? Thats the most gracious reaction I think I've ever heard! Nice to see someone out there gets why women might like it/isnt offended by it.

This totally reminds me of something that happened about a month ago in band class! It was at the end, and I had a few minutes to just play whatever on my flute before I had to put it away. So I decided to play part of Hemispheres (the "And all at once the chaos ceased..." bit). Once I finished one of the music teachers looked over to me and said, "That song was in 4/7! I've never heard of a song written in 4/7! Where on Earth did you learn that?" *resists the obvious flute/band camp joke, even though it was served up on a silver platter* "This one time.....at band camp...." Oh yes. I went there. As did I. Great minds and all that. Wow. I didn't even suspect that would reference anything at all. Glad I made someone happy, though! Oh, and Vampire, I love the Spock animation in your signature! Haha I thought you would. I couldnt resist putting it on my sig when I found it.
  4. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Dec 4 2008, 07:24 PM) This is from Leonard Nimoy via trekweb: QUOTE "About two months ago my wife,Susan, and I saw a near finished version of the new Star Trek movie. Some special effects and new score were not yet in place. Susan can be a very honest and tough critic. When it was clear that the story was wrapping up she turned to me and whispered, " I don't want this movie to end !!" There are some directors who can manage a grand scale and some who can deliver great personal character elements. Not many can do both. JJ Abrams is one of the few. He has given us a wonderful film." http://trekweb.com/articles/2008/12/04/Exc...New-Movie.shtml http://trekmovie.com/2008/12/04/leonard-ni...tar-trek-movie/ Looking good...looking good... Well thats good, I feel a little better now. I trust Nimoy's judgment.
  5. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Dec 4 2008, 06:16 PM) QUOTE (VampireBiscuits @ Dec 4 2008, 07:46 PM) QUOTE (ReRushed @ Dec 4 2008, 04:47 PM) Wild at Heart is crap! Its not crap, its just not for everyone. Its got a lot of camp value and not everyone appreciates that. I don't want this thread to turn negative, I just can't stand Wild at Heart. I find it unwatchable. With that said, I like some of David Lynch's films. Like you said, he's not for everyone, me included. Sorry, I didnt mean to come off abrasive. I will just agree to disagree haha.

  7. QUOTE (ArrowSnake @ Dec 4 2008, 02:27 PM) QUOTE (VampireBiscuits @ Dec 4 2008, 10:03 PM) I also really enjoy David Lynch's work. Twin Peaks was a great show and Blue Velvet is probably my favorite of his movies. Though I also really liked Lost Highway, Mulholland Dr, The Elephant Man and Wild at Heart (so glad to see someone else likes that movie, ArrowSnake). I havnt seen Eraserhead yet though and I really want to. I can just never talk my husband into it haha. Wild At Heart definitely is one of my favorites. "This is a snakeskin jacket! And for me it's a symbol of my individuality, and my belief... in personal freedom" Eraserhead is one of the most disturbing movies of all time! It's a very strange and unsettling piece of work. Watching it is a crazy experience, I warn you! Haha thats so classic. Nicholas Cages best role. It almost felt like a John Waters movie in a weird way. And yes, I've heard Eraserhead is quite a trip, thats why my husband is reluctant to rent it/watch it with me. He saw it once and hes not sure hes ready to see it again- which only makes me more curious of course haha.

  10. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Dec 3 2008, 04:55 PM) I'm all for being edgy and stuff, but I'm a bit perplexed by the number one choice! http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/empire-100...characters.html The number one choice in which list? If you mean the Empire (first one) I agree. Fight Club was good, but not that good. Tyler Durden certainly shouldnt be ahead of Darth Vader! I was happy to see Khan added to the revised list.

They are marketing it like an action flick and I just do not understand the Stingray opening. When I first saw the trailer, I thought since it was bootleg that the opening scene must be of a commercial for a different movie, until the kid says his name. Oh boy. I agree with you on this. It doesn't seem 'retro' enough for me. Looks more like an action movie than a sci fi. I am going to remain optimistic, but the trailer disappoints me a little - too sleak and marketed. And what's up with the action-jackson music? I agree with you on all points. It does look too sleek and too action oriented, but like you I'm trying to stay positive and Nimoy's appearance at the end of that most recent trailer really helps. But however the movie ends up turning out, I will be happy because it seems to have even already peaked some peoples interest in Star Trek (The Original Series in particular) that wouldnt have paid it any attention otherwise. Agreed! After this discussion, I looked on the internet and found that CBS is streaming all of the original episodes for free. Maybe somebody has posted this, but it was new info to me. http://www.cbs.com/classics/star_trek/ I don't know if anyone else has posted it either, but that's great either way. A friend of mine has been watching the series that way, I have the DVDs though so I don't need it. Youtube also has a few full-length episodes they put up to test a new format. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=20048A7C541C941C Are these the digitally "remastered" episodes? Some of them are the remastered. The Carbomite Maneuver and Where No Man Has Gone Before is for sure. Haven't checked to see if there are others. Most of them aren't, but a few remastered versions are online. Yay, a thread about Star Trek! Yay indeed haha! Still loving your avatar btw I'm going in a few weeks to a symphony event that Nimoy will be narrating (in person), I'm dragging my poor husband with me- I cannot wait.

  15. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Nov 25 2008, 03:45 PM) Thanks, Ms. Biscuits! The new 'Star Trek' trailer debuted when TRF was down. I meant to post the link to watch it in HD but I forgot. I deeply apologize to all of my Trekkie friends. Please know that even though I can't stand 'Star Trek' I still love all of you and meant no insult. I have to admit, that even though i don't care for 'Star Trek', this new movie has me intrigued - not that I'm going to go out and buy a pair of Spock ears or attend a convention or obsessively collect every episode on DVD or anything, but I digress... No offense taken. Though be warned, I used to pick on Trekkies (especially my Dad) until I actually sat down and watched the show. Now I'm one of them, its bitten me pretty hard haha. I have obsessively collected the DVDs but I dont have the Spock ears....yet.

When I first saw the trailer, I thought since it was bootleg that the opening scene must be of a commercial for a different movie, until the kid says his name. Oh boy. The Stingray opening shows Kirk's reckless and risk taking ways started early in life and that he'll break the rules, if necessary. I liked the trailer very much. I'm stoked. Well I get that part, but I just dont buy the idea that Stingrays are still around when hes a kid, or even that we are still using the gasoline required to run a car like that.

  20. Oh man, May is way too long to have to wait for this haha.
  21. Thanks for posting that, ReRushed- I'm tempted to read the article/spoilers, but I cant bring myself to do it haha. 22. QUOTE (mortkort @ Oct 7 2008, 01:09 PM) this is not a movie but i thought i could post this here anyway. futurama fans, who didnt shed at least one tear while watching this episode? http://www.myconfinedspace.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/1150449467555xt4.gif http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m109/FTBU/sad-smiley.gif Oh god, I didnt even see that whole episode, just that final scene and I bawled my eyes out- and I do not cry easily at all. Movies that have made me cry; The Green Mile (I actually had to stop the movie and just have a good cry before I could finish it). Monster Brokeback Mountain But my most embarrassing one is probably The Wrath of Khan. I wont watch the movie with my husband because I know I'd never hear the end of it if I saw me bawling over that scene in the end.

No one but Nimoy can play Spock, you'd think they'd realise that by now, especially since he appeared in TNG. I think they need something brand new not a remake/reinvention/prequel of the original characters. Nothing beats TOS anyway in my book... I couldnt agree with you more on TOS. And I dont like the idea of anyone but Nimoy playing Spock either. Spock is my favorite character from Star Trek and Nimoy played him so well. But theres not much I can do about it so I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed. Yeah, I kind of feel the same. I even think Quinto will do a decent job YET it still won't 'feel right' since it's not Nimoy. Oh well. It can't be helped Yeah, but Nimoy will be making an appearance as Spock in the movie- I dont know how they are going to go about doing that, but eh, I'll take it! I'm hoping this actually fails so they are forced to leave TOS in the past where it belongs and move onto something new. Hopefully further into the Federation's future. The only problem is, if they go too far forward will starships even exist anymore?? I have mixed feelings about it. As far as Star Trek goes, I am exclusively interested in TOS and the original characters. So if this new movie didnt involve them I wouldnt be seeing it at all. But at the same time I dont want them to mess up the characters I love so much. Casting comic actor Simon Pegg as Scotty seems a mistake to me, it could end up looking like a TV sketch parody if they're not careful... Yeah, that could go either way I think. I saw Simon in a serious role in "The Good Night" and he didnt do too bad, so that gave me a bit of reassurance.
