  1. I was always concerned that my much-beloved Rush would be retiring soon. Now, it is I that will be retiring from Rush.. after seeing the obscene ticket-pricing fiasco, among other things, I no longer recognize this band as the one I used to hold to such high esteem.
  2. QUOTE (upstateNYfan @ Apr 13 2010, 11:39 AM) It has always been about business. Go back in time and tell them that as they're hitting off the bong or doing lines. After they lost the creative/competitive drive it became largely financial.

QUOTE (FOH Lights @ Apr 13 2010, 11:16 AM) QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Apr 13 2010, 09:29 AM) QUOTE (toonz @ Apr 12 2010, 05:38 PM) QUOTE (FOH Lights @ Apr 12 2010, 03:49 PM) QUOTE (AVman9 @ Apr 12 2010, 03:20 PM) QUOTE (Mara @ Apr 12 2010, 02:31 PM) No shit. $21/ticket? Pisses me off more than anything about the ticket prices. And this is a monopoly. Last I checked, those weren't legal. Yep. There's only two kids on the block: Ticketmaster and Livenation. It does seem rather shady, doesn't it? My mother had mentioned that she saw a show on the Permanent Waves tour and paid less than 15 bucks for the ticket. Makes me rage real hard. IMO, that's not really a fair comparison. Shows today aren't what they used to be. Technology has come so far in the last 20 years that the quality of the shows just gets better & better. The sound, the lighting, the effects, the whole production (not to mention, the music) is incredibly advanced and all of that cool stuff comes with a price. When you used to pay $15 for a ticket, you usually got a $15 show - which was OK because we didn't know any different. Hell, I remember $8.00 concert tickets, but I also remember that the sound was horrible and they were using converted industrial lighting onstage that would scorch a musician if he got too close. These days, you have to decide for yourself if the cost of a ticket is worth experiencing 3+ hours of top of the line sight & sound entertainment. Personally, when it comes to Rush, I think that it is. That's what I was waiting for someone to post. If RUSH or anyband came out with equipment from 1984 and toured with it and charged more than 20 bucks, I'd have a fit as well. I can't begin to guess what it costs for RUSH to put on the entire tour, much less one show. That's why you see more sponsers for tours. They pick up a chunk of the production costs and toss some money the bands way. Personally, I wouldn't go see a show if it was just the music and a few lights. I want the whole production. Otherwise, I can sit at home and listen to my CD's and hold color plastic in front of a flashlight.... If the prices are too high, get a cheaper seat or just don't go. I choose to spend my money on a concert like this. I'm not rich by any means, but it's worth it to me. It sounds like most of you are pulling every justification possible for purchasing these exorbitant tickets. A fan of Rush I am.. but not a sucker. I think that we're merely pointing out some reasons why ticket prices might seem high to some. Most people don't understand what is involved in putting on the type of show that Rush does. So, a brief explanation might help justify the cost. As far as others being suckers for buying them (as you implied), I don't really think that's accurate. I mean, for whatever reason, you don't feel that the show is worth it - no biggie. You just have a different level of financial justification than others. That doesn't make them suckers - it just means that in their minds, an evening with Rush is worth the cost of the ticket and they're willing & able to pay it. I really didn't mean to imply that you others are suckers, but its more of how Rush envisions the vast majority of their fanbase. I find it shameless that Rush is charging the prices they are in light of the economic situation. Many supportive Rush fans won't be able to attend the show due to this fact. And its completely naive to say they have no control over ticket prices. They've turned into hardcore businessmen and have done something else with artistic integrity.
  4. QUOTE (Rick4001 @ Apr 12 2010, 11:24 AM) Any other fans excited about the Moving Pictures setlist? Wouldn't it be awesome to hear the original rick-o-sound again? http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/geddysrickenbacker/ I've been bitching about the Rick issue for some time now.. Please go back to your roots, Geddy!

  6. I'd like to see what ticket prices were every year over the past 30 years...can someone shed some light on this? Feels like pricing has increased in a logarithmic fashion.

I'm so disappointed Alex, Neil and Geddy would actually sink to this level...they've really morphed into becoming greedy bastards. "Let's raise the ticket prices to counter the drop in album revenues. Stick it into the ass of the stupid fans. They're gullible and pathetically desperate enough for any new Rush material". I will not be attending this tour purely out of principle, nor will I purchase anything Rush-related. I'm completely sickened of what they've become. Quite frankly, they can kiss my ass...all three of them. Does this mean you'll quit TRF and go hang out at the White Stripes forum instead and let all those people enjoy all your lovely and witty comments instead? Is this your attempt at humor or wit? No. It was wishful thinking. I hope you either *finally* stop your incessant Rush bashing here or GTFO and go find something better to do. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but you cross the respect line on the topic that this entire forum is dedicated too. Your stupid comments reflect poorly on us all. My comments are far from stupid. Perhaps you fail to see the truth in them.

Good one! translate: Money Machine Tour! There ought to be a row of ATMs on Geddy's side of the stage. Or maybe a bank drive-thru window. Now THAT is funny!! Instead of a chicken coming out to baste the birds, they have guys with sacks of cash come out and refill the ATMs. And call it the "Fans Under Pressure" tour
  9. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Apr 12 2010, 09:28 AM) life is short though and oppotunity only comes along once in a while. FFS, you're talking about a bunch of rock musicians, not an epic career move or major investment opportunity. The Rush guys love to joke about your type while at the same time taking your money.

Hell no. Show a montage of pictures of their different phases/looks throughout the years of their career. This would really get my adrenaline rolling...and then they break out into a monster classic! you mean like what they did with r30 at the beginning? I don't remember. Is this what they did??

  16. QUOTE (Mara @ Mar 31 2010, 09:12 AM) From RIAB: LINK Tuesday, March 30, 2010 Geddy Lee confirms summer Rush tour followed by new album Posted at 7:28PM | link | comments (76) Sandra Miller of Akron's 97.5 WONE had a brief conversation with Geddy Lee recently where Geddy confirms Rush's plans for touring/recording that were first mentioned by Alex Lifeson in a Toronto Globe and Mail interview last week. Here's what Geddy said: We're kind of looking at a kind of a 2 year plan. A little bit of writing now, getting a couple of tracks down. Playing some songs in the summertime on tour that people are not familiar with as well as bringing back a whole range of older songs. And getting quickly back into the studio again and finishing the album and see what the impact of that is. You can listen to the interview yourself at this link or use the player below. Here's what Alex Lifeson had said in his Toronto Globe and Mail interview last week: ... We were off for a year and a half, and now it's just pouring. Everything is totally crazy and there's not a minute left in the day. We've got these half-dozen songs, and we'll probably go in the studio and work on a couple of them and see how it goes, perhaps release something - and I say perhaps - and then we plan on being on the road in the middle of June. Ideally, we'd like to showcase a couple of these songs on the tour, come off tour in mid-October, go back in the studio and continue writing, then record through late this year and early next year, and then release the album in the spring of 2011 on a slightly more substantial tour. This [year's] tour will probably be about 45 dates. Most likely summer, 2011, would be more like 70. ... It's going to be a busy couple of years for Rush and their fans. Thanks to Evan for the heads up. Its called the "marketing-for-all-its-worth" tour: 1) Induce excessive salivation in an already starving fanbase by announcing that -VIRGIN- Rush songs will be debuted (along with classic hits) in the new upcoming tour creating a Drool factor of 10 2) Post-tour, officially release these new songs to incite another revitalizing and manipulative hit into the fanbase (and fringe-interest audience), thus boosting post-tour interest in the band. Drool factor of ~9 (assuming good fan reception to new material) 3) Re-tour immediately after new material release to take advantage of high chatter/interest rate among fans from the new material. Drool factor here is strongly dependent on the quality of new material (Excellent material equates to a booming Drool factor. A poor quality release will create a slump in this 2nd phase of the tour w/ the economy being a contributing factor as well) . Release yet another foreign-audience live performance DVD when the tour completes. The plan will work fabulously for them if new material is excellent. Let's hope they worked hard, intelligently, and passionately. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CRwN_3cJXMs/SKFy3OqDkiI/AAAAAAAAA48/LriaFqEDhnk/s400/crosshairs-250x252.gif Geddy: Target acquired Alex: Loaded Neil: Fire!

Thoughts? Bring back the Rickenbacker NOW Lose the dryers and rotisseries..instead make the stage like a living room with couch, coffee table and recliner set to the left of stage(they can exit this way too) with certain time-specific Rush artwork, like the dogs playing cards painting, stuffed animals in the likeness of the snowdog and snowy owl. A flatscreen TV that plays a long loop video of everything related to Rush throughout their history. Neil's motorcycle(or a prop) sitting there next to a working refrigerator (that the guys can open and drink stuff out of during the concert) with a case of Macallan next to it for preload for the next road trip(nothing wrong with a little commercialism..its already being done of course). Emphasis on fun! Clever little subtlety there! That is kind of a cool idea. And if they have the contest a la "Snakes on A Stage" type thing where two people win passes to sit onstage - they could hang on the couch! That would be hilarious. Imagine how thrilling that would be to sit on that couch for a song or two. And drink The Macallan at the same time! Ha ha. I'll be drinking something else, as The Macallan is as vile-tasting as a whiskey comes! i have to agree. that stuff is rancid and i can't believe i wasted money on it. ended up giving the bottle away. Lol. I gave it to my father. His taste buds are gone so he was able to enjoy it.

  22. QUOTE (presto123 @ Mar 29 2010, 08:33 PM) No doubt about it and if he uses this idea I want commission. Old school 80's video game machines with Mics at the bottom. Pac Man, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, Asteroids etc.... Every so often someone comes out with a quarter....well you know the routine. That would be so cool to have a mini arcade right behind Ged. Lol. I fully endorse this as long as there's a Missile Command machine too.
