  1. R.I.P. John Listening to the first album is always special, simply cause it's not Neil. But John. Still a fine drummer, i would say.
  2. Force Ten. especially the relaxed bridge part, with Neil in a sort of 'save mode' before hammering down the last part.
  3. Earthshine, if i have to choose, I dont like this album at all. Not even one song I really appreciate.

Get a grip will you please it does look a little ridiculous, really... Wow, never expected this truckload of reactions by saying that I seriously dont like Dream Theater. But hate?? mmm, dont think so. Just cant stand that clean sound. I dont see them as a band with an original sound. To me , it's a bit too fabricated. Let's do it very difficult, guys! Sort of Toto , but then the deluxe version. And wrt comment on emotion. I dont mean that the lyrics need to address human emotions, feelings, lessons in live etc. Its just a combination of sound, lyrics and also (maybe most important) the way it is sung. To me , Afterimage is such a song. Or The Pass, or even Between the Wheels and Mission (listen to that last verse, how beautiful that is sung , also with that sound). When I compare that to DT, it feels like opening the refrigerator or even the freezer. In general , all the Rush songs on Cygnus, Apollo, Dyonisus, Xanadu etc. (how much I do love them) also dont have that feeling for me like the Permanent Waves - let's say Counterparts era. Im not a big fan of T4E and Vapor Trails. The problem with folks that dont like Dream Theater is, its not enough that they dont like the band, its the fact they have to makes long winded drawn out statements about why they dont like them. The Dream Theater fan who loves the band really doesn't give a shit why the Rush fan does not. I will never understand the level of hatred towards DT from some Rush fans ? Were these fans born with a small penis ? Did they not get enough love as a child ? Are they just clueless ?(probably the reason) Dream Theater is awesome to the fans that get it. If you dont get it, your loss, go make posts about the color of Neils drum kit and leave the people who love this world class band alone. Listen, Hulk Hogan. First I made a comment in just two sentences. Then when someone asks me to make a longer statement, i do that. OK? But dont stone me with your Neandertal comments about penis size, love as a child (?) etc. Am I an idiot cause I dont like one of your beloved bands? So if we diagree on the quality of a writer, painter, musician etc. you come up with penis sizes? Grow up, wet fart. You react like a fundamentalist Muslim who cannot cope with a cartoon about the prophet. Your Hulk cartoon suits you fine, I believe. Dude, i think your wooden shoes are too tight. Are you an idiot cause you dont like one of my favorite bands ? No, not really, your ridiculous however cause your taking my sophmoric nonsence post to Heart. better to have wooden shoes than to walk around in dino shit with bare feet. Lazer op met je troep, flapdrol.

  7. Dream Theater, no emotion. What a bunch of wankers.
  8. If canada says Zed, I say Zed always called it Zed btw Zed's it for now!
  9. can't believe that the first album is often chosen. Only because Neil isnt playing the drums?? Come on, Finding My way & Working man & What Youre Doing ... and In the MOOD. Classic Rush sound. And listen to Here Again. geez, compare that to those 'bleak' albums like T4E or RTB
  10. Very tough one, this album. Fav song differs from time to time, Red Barchetta, sometimes Witch Hunt, YYZ (masterpiece). But also like Vital Signs alot. OK, its Red barchetta this time
  11. Bastille day. For me, Fountain of lamneth is not really one song. But anyway, also like Panacea, Bacchus Plateau and of course Lakeside park.
  12. you laugh at other bands for not releasing a double live album every four studio albums
  13. QUOTE (Deadwing @ Oct 16 2007, 09:43 AM) QUOTE (psionic11 @ Oct 16 2007, 02:09 AM) QUOTE (fledgehog @ Oct 13 2007, 09:42 PM) Going through the posts in order... The highest note in "Circumstances" is a D5 The highest note in "Freewill" is an F5 The highest note in "Available Light" is a D5 The highest note in "No One at the Bridge" is a G5 The highest note in "Cygnus X-1" is an A#/Bb5 The highest note in "2112" is a G5 The highest note in "Marathon" is a C5 (I think...I'm not positive, I'll have to go back and listen again) The highest note in "Anthem" is an E5 The highest note in "Bastille Day" is an E5 The highest note in "Finding My Way" is an E5 The highest note in "Fly By Night" is an F#/Gb5 So there's your definate answer, coming from a guy with perfect pitch. As per OP's request, I used only studio recordings for this. That would make Available Light off of Presto back in 1989 as the last song having a high note above the classical tenor C5, correct? 18 years ago... Since we're on the subject, anyone care to see what his lowest note is? And what Rush's fastest and slowest songs? Betcha Snakes and Arrows has more slow and low notes than most any other album to date... Would this include the speaking parts in "Double Agent"? I think that's the deepest I've ever heard him go, but it's not singing. D7-D5 G7-G5 B5xD3 Tried to play it.. but this chess match is really tough.
  14. QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Jun 25 2007, 03:53 AM) Cygnus X-1 agreed... the last part especially...torn apart
  15. 224. cause it was Brought to you by the letter- sssss!
  16. Yes my first goal has been achieved. Gonna be a seeker soon.
  17. typically an album with changing best song. can be the pass, first 3 songs i always like, sometimes its Presto itself, but available light also is orgasmic. today its the available light
  18. Also difficult, especially cause Fountain of Lamneth is counted as one. Panacea is great, But side two as a whole is not as strong as later efforts like 2112 and hemispheres. lakeside park is wonderful. bastille day rocks. Lets go for lakeside
  19. Difficult choice, By-Tor is the epic one, but Anthem is catchier. And In the End is amazingly. In the End wins... close call
  20. Great opener, great closing track. Working Man wins.
  21. Two complete albums: T4E and VT. Both terrible.
