  1. Hmm, I guess they're sending out the preorders straight away. On their site it says it will be released February 3, but maybe that's just for stores and iTunes, etc.
  2. :bump: They're done writing and recording their sophomore album, which is due out on February 3, 2015. Tune in to my prog radio show, The Natural Progarithm, at 1:00 PM EST today to hear a couple tracks from it. Listen live at www.cfrc.ca. :D
  3. PT is awesome. SW is like a prog god to me. I really have to check out the Pre-Lightbulb albums. I've only really heard the Staircase Infinities EP, the Moonloop EP, and bits and pieces from On the Sunday of Life. Some spacy / psychedelic stuff from what I've heard though! Groovy!
  4. Yeah, this trend is pretty stupid.
  5. The ASOH version of Subdivisions is pretty cool.
  6. I appreciate the props to Rush; though I wasn't super impressed.
  7. If we are considering 173 songs and making 13-tuples of them, and as per the OP's request we don't consider "copies", i.e. same track list but different order, then the number of possible combinations is given by: (173!) / [(13!)(160!)] = 12 578 130 554 967 070 821 That's about 1.26*10^19 for those that don't want to count all those digits.
  8. OMG. I swear, I've been a Rush fan for like 7 years, and I guess I didn't ever stop to think about it, but... Driven. At around 2:16. "Driven out -- On the pigment of the witch" ...which doesn't make much sense, but I thought it was this for ever until now!
  9. THANK YOU. I don't think people in this thread actually know what trilling is.
  10. I am ignorant as hell when it comes to technology. Having said that, how do you do that? Is it with your phone? I would really like to know as I spend an hour and half at the gym daily and am starting to get tired of listening to the same stuff all the time... :) Any help would be greatly appreciated You can stream it with your phone using a great app called TuneIn Radio, available for iPhone, Andriod, Blackberry etc. Depending on your plan, I would recommend connecting to a WiFi connection if available in stead of using your data. I reckon an hour of streaming would use approximately 55 MB, but if you can spare it then go for it. :rush:
  11. I think it's safe to say that Score was James' best live recorded vocal performance. No?
  12. Love shoegaze. My favourite band of the genre is Slowdive. It's not even close. Not to say there aren't other great bands out there, but Slowdive, for me, just defines the sound that I love most about the genre. Cocteau Twins are great, along with Ride, Lush, Chapterhouse, Curve, Cranes, Air Formation, and of course MBV. You guys should check out The Daysleepers, a band out of Buffalo, NY. Absolutely love their sound. I generally don't like so-called "new-gaze" as it tends to be overly electronic (e.g. M83) and just not what I know as shoegaze. Anyway, Daysleepers are cool.
  13. Funny, the other day I also referred to Jon Anderson's as angelic. It simply just has that quality. I get up.... I get dowwwwnnnn....
  14. For research purposes. Obviously both songs present a dark mood. Which one do you think is "darker" or perhaps even "scarier"?
  15. hey, jordan! the final cut SOUNDS incredible - i mean it's recorded fantastically, but the album is just far too suicidally depressing for me to listen to. the incredible audiophile sound is unfortunately completely wasted on me. Hey, Gary! Yeah, it may be the best sounding album I own.
  16. The Final Cut is actually one of my favourites. Yes, it is depressing. But it sounds so nice and polished, but still warm, and even lush in spots. Everyone says it sounds more like a Waters solo effort, which I agree with -- though I like his solo stuff so I don't have a very big problem with it. :P There are some amazing compositions on there, like "The Gunner's Dream", "The Final Cut", and of course, "The Fletcher Memorial Home". All of that being said, it's no Wish You Were Here, which is arguably my favourite Floyd album, but it is a solid album overall, IMHO.
  17. I'm a fan of Alcest, but have only heard a bit by Les Discrets. I know they did a split EP which was pretty great.
  18. I'm assuming you meant to say JR? No I'm not. John Petruci wrote the classical section of that song. Its a piece that was in his head for quite some time. Really? I thought JP said in an interview that he asked Jordan, "Play the saddest melody you know" and that was the middle section and theme of Illumination Theory. Or am I thinking of a different song? EDIT: Yeah, this:
  19. The strings are a bit out of joint, but man is that section beautiful! Its moving and emotional. Honestly I think JP has a brilliant stand alone classical piece in that. He should write an expanded version of that piece and release it as its own entity, That's how I feel. I'm assuming you meant to say JR?
  20. I am in love with just over half of this album, and it doesn't seem to be fading. Definitely better than ADToE. I can't wait to pick up a vinyl copy! :) My favourite track right now is "The Bigger Picture". The solo section is sublime. (That drum pattern Mangini does fits perfectly and it gives me goosebumps.)
  21. I've only heard Weather Systems from these guys, but I have to say, it's one of my favourite albums of all time! And I adore Lee's vocals.
  22. Don't forget their dumb dog! I remember my guitar teacher showing me this. Phenomenal.
