  1. QUOTE (Freeze @ Jul 22 2012, 05:26 AM) Two important issues for me comparing the two albums: They finally got rid of the Geddy choirs on "CA". I found them a little annoying on "S & A". I also think "S & A" suffers a little from being a little too mid-tempo overall. On "CA" the energy level seems higher and they rock out a little more. Most important though, is the fact that "CA" has better songs overall than "S & A" imo. In agreement
  2. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 21 2012, 10:30 PM) "it is what is". ....and whatever.....
  3. Haters of CA - you guys are pathetic. So loving CA makes us fanbois? LOL. I guess then you not liking CA and minimizing it makes you trolls with that twisted logic. I dont think CA is perfect, I dont love every song on it like crazy, I dont think it's the best thing they've ever done musically, and I do have some issues with the sound. Most people on this board love CA, and I think most Rush fans love CA and you guys cant deal with it, so you minmize it by predicting its demise and use other excuses as to why it's not great, that only you guys know the truth and the rest of us are delusional. Laughable stuff. Get out of this forum if CA bothers you this much or if our love for it makes you cringe. The high praise for CA is here to stay, not just with us, but with most critic reviews as well, which you will of course find a way to minimize and dismiss. But there's not a damn thing you haters can do to change the love for it by the majority. Truly sucks to be you.
  4. And whoever chose " VT by a lot" is a real joker......
  5. QUOTE (Pound of Obscure @ Jul 21 2012, 09:16 PM) If you had to eat a large bowl of ostrich crap, would you prefer candy sprinkles on top or whip cream? That's the difference in sound quality between the two. CA is a much better album, so it sounds better to people. They are much more willing to overlook the atrocious sound quality. Admit it guys and gals, if any other band put out a cd with this kind of sound quality, you'd call it out. Not true. My liking for CA does not confound my judgement that it has a superior sonic production. Please. At least Im not that impressionable. When I listened to VT and CA side by side, no doubt, CA has better clarity, better separation, much more stripped down, and just a better audio experience. You can think differently if you want, but most of us, as the poll shows, do not think CA as a sonic disaster that was VT.
  6. Did anyone here convert CA vinyl digitally onto a CD yet? Just wondering why the " authorities ", who hear the vinyl master sound, could not say, " hmmmm, this sounds better than the CD master sound.....how can we get the CD to sound like this??". ???
  7. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 20 2012, 09:23 PM) It's better than VT, but that isn't saying much. I can't tell what Geddy is singing a lot of the time on CA either.
  8. QUOTE (bluefox4000 @ Jul 20 2012, 08:03 PM) Well it is slightly better VT for me.....Because I CAN make it through the whole album. But.....still crappy, I had to look up the lyrics.....which is something i rarely have to do. Cause I could not understand a word ged was singing......save for a few songs. So CA is slightly better.....but still that's not saying much. Mick I can understand most lyrics without looking.
  9. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jul 20 2012, 07:44 PM) Sounds problems? C'Mon WTF cares? What we have today, in our hands, is an honest effort to soar beyond what they've done in the past, and give us something new. As luck would have it...we got the best of both worlds. PS... I agree with your positive perspectives!
  10. QUOTE (Pound of Obscure @ Jul 20 2012, 06:52 PM) QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jul 20 2012, 05:43 PM) QUOTE (Pound of Obscure @ Jul 20 2012, 12:04 PM) QUOTE (CygnusX-1Bk2 @ Jul 17 2012, 07:26 PM) If CA didn't sound like garbage perhaps I would feel differently but the music has been destroyed. It makes my stereo sound broken. It may be worse than VT. Seriously. I agree with this 100%. I pulled out VT to compare. CA is worse. Not in every aspect but in the ones that matter the most, its worse. I can't listen to it. I try because I like 5 of the songs alot. 4 others I really believe are probably good, if I could freaking hear what I think is there. I just can't believe they VT'd another record. It is not worse than VT....not at all. Yes, it's too loud, but def clearer and with better separation than VT. I have to disagree. VT is louder for sure, deafeningly so and it had clipping. But clipping was the least of the problem with VT. From a separation and clarity standpoint, CA is every bit as bad. Just not as loud. At least with VT I could hear everything Neil played. It was deafening, but I could hear it, every note. For me, VT was mud. CA is much more stripped down arrangement wise and I can clearly hear each track well, with few exceptions. If you're just talking about drums, yes I agree they are more subdued in some places, esp the toms, but that is a loudness issue by guitars, not overall clarity and separation.
  11. QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 20 2012, 06:21 PM) CA by a fair amount. Obviously VT is just a disaster. CA has problems but not on that scale, but it's not up there with the quality of albums like Power Windows. Not even close to that. So to me it's maybe halfway between PoW and VT as far as sound quality goes. For once, I agree with you.
  12. Been reading some posts in the CA vs S and A thread about how a few posters think the sound quality of CA is actually worse than VT. To my ears, CA is much, much better. To, me, it is so obvious to my ears that CA has better clarity and separation than VT and cant imagine how anyone can claim the sonic production is as close to, bad as, or worse than VT. Yes, to me, CA is too loud and I certainly would have liked much better dynamic range, but as bad as VT?? No, not even close. What do you think? I did not mean to create yet another thread about sound, but want to get a sampling of opinions out there on this.

When and if a next album comes out I imagine the posts then will be identical to this thread by the same people but CA will be the next S&A with the "new" new album getting undue praise. We're not praising CA because it's new. It's because the music is excellent. See the top ten poll and Goober's 1-10 poll. Honeymoon effect is minimal. Give it time. It will rate 7/10 in the long haul, IMO. Already is a 6 or 7. Rush has 3 10's in their catalogue. 10's are perfect albums and thus a hard level to reach. Very good albums are not 10's. Or even 9's for that matter. Its their best in quite a while. After the abomination of Snakes, it seems spectacular. But its about a 7. With a good point removed for inexcusable sound quality. I'll give it a 7.5. A pretty strong record that I like with heavy penalties for sound quality. 6 overall rating. CA>>>>>>>>Snakes. Snakes<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<any other Rush/Rascal Flats album http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?showtopic=75734&st=240 Close to 78% (231 pollers) rate this album at least 8/10. That's a damn great figure for an album, even if it's new. I predict that number will hold fairly steady in the long run. CA is here to stay strong over the long haul. Yeah, but we're a bunch of Rush freaks in here. You would expect those kind of numbers. That's like going to Moveon.org and asking them who they support in the next election. Some honeymoon effect and Rush bias, yes, but I think those 2 factors minimally account for the high numbers. People are truly ranking CA high outside of those 2 factors I believe. I'll make another poll in a year. You do that. That whooshing sound you hear is all of us holding our collective breaths. Yeah, cant wait......
  15. QUOTE (theredtamasrule @ Jul 19 2012, 08:28 PM) The only thing CA suffers from is an overabundance of greatness.
  16. QUOTE (Running Rebel @ Jul 17 2012, 02:18 PM) I'd also like to comment on the contention over the order Headlong Flight and BU2B etc. HF is the hero retelling the story of his adventures and he is filled with "boundless optimism" over life. Having or maintaining boundless optimism isn't always possible nor pragmatic. Neil himself has mentioned that the wouldn't want to personally "live it all again". Nothing wrong with the extreme optimisistic viewpoint per se, especially on occasion, and good for you if you can do it, but I assume it is partly escaping reality to a degree. And after HF, presumbably when the hero returns from the adventures, the Pedlar (II) does come back and ask him again "what do you lack?" Which leads him to the inner contemplation of BU2B2. ther he realizes what he does lack, that there is no magical solution, no solace in a "clockwork universe". Out of this introspection comes his new mantra, not blind optimism but a pramatic viewpoint on how to live his life. I would also like to comment on the similarity of BU2B2 and when I read about or deal with those who have left a church/cult/sect and the tough process that introspection can be especially with initial depression before coming out of the ether and developing new strategies, or viewpoints that make life seem worthwhile. Fantastic thoughts!!
  17. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 19 2012, 06:54 PM) I was more than willing to call it quits, but I guess he wasn't. Kittens are nice.
