For a second there, I thought this belonged in The Sex Thread.

    A Haunting

I've seen the show, but since I don't watch a lot of TV or own a Tivo, I usually don't get to see it. I do like it.

The latter isn't something I feel needs to be on the album, it's pretty much filler...although I do have a bootleg recording of Animals, where Gilmour throws in a nice extended solo between the two parts. I have heard that there is something out there of a studio recording with the two acoustic pieces meshed with a electric lead solo in the middle. Is this just rumor? Yes I have an mp3 of it somewhere....It's Snowy White playing the solo though, not Dave. Well that doesn't quite hold the same charm, eh?
  7. QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jun 5 2008, 05:55 PM) Oh yeah Gompers! I am a HUGE FAN of Gavin's. There is a two pack dvd out featuring the one you have and a different instructual video as well. Do you have the two Gavin Harrison solo cds? It's different, but they are very good. "Sanity & Gravity" is his first and it is out of print and very hard to find!! Yeah, it's about time Gavin got some love! Cheers! As a drummer I love how he incorporates that cool "cymbal tree" into the musical fray. Incredible stuff. Incredible drummer. I need to get get some more instructional stuff by him. His jazz training makes a huge difference with PT over Chris Maitland. I want to hear his solo stuff and O5ric. I bet it is excellent.

I haven't heard anything about a studio version. The live bootleg I have is from 1977, in Canada... Yes, there is a verision of "Pigs on the Wing" that bridges both parts. It was originally released on the 8-track version of Animals. Snowy White, not David Gilmour, provides the bridge between the two parts. It can now be found on various bootlegs. Time to show my ignorance....who's Snowy White?

  10. QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jun 5 2008, 03:45 PM) Porupine Tree is the greatest band on the earth. I mean the second greatest band on earth. Don't get me wrong, I would choose an "Evening With Rush" over an opener, but hey, let's say that in a few years the boys want to trim down some time on their set list because of their age. Wouldn't it be cool to have Porcupine Tree open for RUSH? Then again in a few years PT will probably be too big to open for RUSH. My favorite opener of all time was when PRIMUS opened for RUSH on the "ROLL THE BONES" TOUR! Oh and on another PT note I want to add that I was totally pumped for Gavin Harrison when he won BEST PROGRESIVE DRUMMER in MODERN DRUMMER last year! Thank goodness that Mike Portnoy lost. I would take Gavin over Mike any day. JMO! Harrison has been severely under-rated for way too long. I picked up his DVD and his mastery of the poly-rhythm is second to none, in my eyes.
  11. Hey Gooberino, taking ideas for show themes for future shows? Like the Mellotron Show, or how about songs with animals in their names (PF - Animals entirely!)?
  12. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jun 5 2008, 04:22 AM)It's interesting that there should be a poll about this as I just heard this album yesterday for the first time in a LOOOONG time. I remember really listening to this album for the first time when I was about 16 (23 years ago! ). It absolutely blew my mind, just completely floored me. Anyway, listening to it again yesterday for the first time in awhile, I hate to say it, but Animals to me has become something akin to The Wall. That is to say, I still greatly appreciate its complexity and think its even a masterpiece of sorts, but I just find it too damn depressing to listen to these days. The album is kind of like; people suck, and they suck in one of three primary ways, and now let me elaborate... I dunno - still undoubtably brilliant, but maybe I just don't have that teenage angst anymore where this appeals to me like it used to - just too lyrically harsh for me to enjoy like I used to... (Goobs that computer is actually your head ) Don't say that, man. Animals is, IHMO, the best PF album. It is so under-rated there are many people who don't even know it exists. Now I know what you are saying about the tone of the lyrics, and it so reeks (did I spell that right?) of Waters pessimism, however, the quality of the music just balances it all with me.

The solo was redone, no? It's stronger (to me anyhow) on Deadwing. I think that's why they re-did it for Deadwing. Steven Wilson did not like the LBS version so he re-did it. BTW the live version of Shesmovdon is closer to the Deadwing version than the LBS version. Just like "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here". Awesome live! FYI...I made audio CDs of the live DVD release for my commute to work. It gets regular spins. It has got to be one of my favorite live productions ever. what software reccomendations do you have (free software) to use for audio ripping from a dvd? http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/355156 You will happily get out your Rush DVDs as well to obtain those tracks that don't appear on the audio release. There are only a few of those, however.

  17. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Jun 2 2008, 12:28 PM) I'm going with "Sheep". "Raving and drooling I fell on his neck with a scream!" All of the lyrics on this album are simply fantastic. I went with Dogs because it is so epic, but I have to admit, the lyrics to Sheep are haunting.
  18. This is my favorite Floyd album. For you who have, I bet ya love it! So outside of the acoustic beginning and end to the album, which full band recording do you like best?
  19. No one is mentioning the high quality of the XM transmission? It really bring the quality of musicianship to light. It almost sounds studio. Harrison shines on Tinto Brass.
  20. Prom pics of my oldest son...times sure does fly by. 21. QUOTE (failte @ Apr 21 2008, 08:52 AM) Candlebox will release their fourth studio record, "Into The Sun," on July 22, 2008. The album's first single, "Stand," hits radio on May 12! I hope it's as good as their other releases. These guys are good.
  22. QUOTE (Xanadu93 @ May 29 2008, 10:23 AM) Ga-raaaaaay! I'm finally gonna listen in tonight to the WHOLE show! Also, you mentioned chat.... is that the live chat? Because I can't get in it! It just brings up a blank screen..... Peace back at ya, Xanadu93 (or Tim, or "The Dude!!" Do you have Java installed?
  23. QUOTE (deadwing2112 @ May 23 2008, 09:44 PM) Any recommendations on what pt album I should buy next? I have the latest 3 and Up The Downstair. Right now I'm leaning towards On A Sunday In Life... Well if you like Up the Downstair, then get more early stuff. I have a lot of trouble getting into the early music.
