  1. http://www.pisa-movies.de/s/cc_images/teaserbox_23900215.jpg?t=1415959865 I love submarine movies so I had great expectations for this one. Aside from Law calling everyone "Laaaaad", it has a good first half and a gripping second half, even if some developments are quite called in. The finale ruins it anyway. Really bad.
  2. OK, here goes HPL's breakfast, guaranteed to give Janie nightmares... Orange crush. Not juice. Crush. You start from the orange and crush it with your bare hands. Meshed fruit. Always banana, pear, lemon, sesame oil, seasonal fruit, sesame seeds. Home-made cake. Low on sugars. Made with greek yoghurt, eggs, oil, brown sugar, rice flour. Huge cup of tea. Black tea. Indian black tea. Fairtrade indian black tea. I'd have more but then I gotta work!
  3. Ammonia Avenue is the last great APP album! The title track about religion and spirituality was way ahead of its time. "And who are we to critizice or scorn the things that they do?" Eric was never a Dylan on lyrics but this time he got it bullseye, and 20 years in advance.
  4. The only muscle car I could think of! Let's spread some Kowalski love!!
  5. That's a good one, HPL! Did you ask your young co-worker why the guitar sounded "so...old"? As a matter of fact, yes I did. He said it was the "waaaaaaa", which by that I think he meant the wailing, high pitched, "crying" guitar sound in the "Love reign over me" theme. Now, I love SO MUCH that theme that I always considered impossible that someone might find it too high pitched or anything, for me it's one of the most perfect guitar sounds ever... but to each his own. I think we ended up using some "contemporary" music. One other time, we needed a background song for a website. It had to be young, punky, sparky but not too much. I suggested "Substitute". I got the reply: "They sing too out of key". We ended up using a Pixies song. From then on, my golden rule has been: keep The Who out of the job.
  6. It's their first ep, the album with this song will be out in the summer I think.
  7. Now now dear Lorraine, if Goober was here you'd have gotten a 75000 words dissertation on the thing in 10 seconds flat...  I love psychedelic music because it's a window in time, it takes me to that time when I wasn't there, so in a way it takes me to a time of my imagination, filled with images from movies or music videos or books I've read. It's a going back to a place I've never been and a place that it's not like it was. I'm trying to think of a psych record that doesn't sound dated but I'm having a hard time coming up with something. The thing that dates most JA is probably Spencer's drums, while Jack and Jorma are virtually timeless... On this note, here's what happened to me not so long ago: I always thought and still think that Quadrophenia still sounds fresh and modern, it's really a timeless sound, so one day we needed some background music for a job and I said to my younger (waay younger) collegue, take a listen to Quadrophenia (the song), he did and replied: man, I dunno, that guitar sounds so... old!! I was sad for the rest of the day.
  8. After which the character from "Two Lane Blacktop" took his name...
  9. I'm sure Earl would have called this thread "21ST CENTURY MUTOID MAN!!!" or something like that, anyway I just stumbled upon this video and though I'd share it. I dig their groove and the drummer would win Mr. Fletcher's approval, I think...
  10. Since we're on a jazz roll, here are two great SAX pieces by the Project! This one has Mr. Mel Collins: http://youtu.be/PAOAniZPZZA This one is Richard Cottle: ultra-poppy but sooo catchy!! Cottle, quite curiously, also played bass on Black Sabbath's "Headless Cross"!!! http://youtu.be/9CLxCT_Ibu4
  11. :D I just have my coffee and a little bit of fruit. I just can't eat after waking up. Never hungry within a few hours of waking up. Quite the contrary here. I starve every morning when I wake up. If I don't get my super-breakfast ASAP I'm like the Neanderthals form Night at the Museum.
  12. Yeah, me too. I have a class tomorrow. I wonder if I should go "Fletcher style" over the poor kids.
  13. JMO: I think Lars will go down in history as the drummer of the most successful metal band of the planet, while Mike will go down as the great drummer of a very successful prog band. In 30 years we will be talking about Lars the same way we talk about Ringo today. Mike will be a footnote.
  14. Damn Rebels! :D We INVENTED "going out to dinner".
  15. The French do the same. I like that schedule. Check out Spain: they have dinner no sooner than 10 pm....
  16. No self-respecting Italian goes out to dinner before 7,30 PM, and that's early. Usually is between 8 and 9.
  17. The strange association between the word "melodic" and the year after 1976
  18. DUDE! YOU MUST GET EVERY ALBUM UP TO "EYE IN THE SKY!" WILL DO! ESPECIALLY "TALES OF MYSTERY AND IMAGINATION"!
  19. Scarborough Fair. Now ain't that a great word to use in a spelling competition? Here in Italy we don't have them, but really, imagine being at school and have to spell "Scarborough"! Jokes aside, it's my favourite S&G song. With lots more. My cousin went in the army (as everyone did, here, for one year), he had barely been outside his home town before, when he came back a buddy had turned him on The Concert in Central Park. So in turn I was turned on as well. Must have been 1981 or around that. Asked for the DOUBLE CASSETTE for my birthday! How f**ing old am I? Since then, S&G are one of the things I always come back to. Saw Garfunkel solo in Lugano some years ago. Still great voice but really, I'd rather see Simon if I had the chance!
  20. Here's the same show in Poland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkXL7qHbXGM Wow, I gotta save some time and watch this...
  21. Here's one that's guaranteed to irk someone here... http://youtu.be/aTBwGk3ORRs
  22. I really can't look at Tony without mustache... it's like looking at Eric Bloom without sunglasses... That's why the California Jam footage seems so weird to me, it looks like they have a guest guitar player...
