  1. QUOTE (Atomic.Feedback! @ Feb 21 2007, 08:42 PM) Mom and Pop everythings are dying. Unless you're out in the sticks, there's really no way to compete with Blockbuster. I've never known any local video stores, but when I went back to visit my brother in Texas, I went to stop by the indie record store down there, called 'Cactus Records'. It broke my heart when I went up and pulled on the door... only to find it was chained shut; when I looked in the window, it was stripped to the bare walls. And look! Down the street! What's that? A Borders. Don't even get me started on online stores. Mom and Pop are unemployed... Use to have a couple of independent record stores in Canton. Quonset hut really cool place had everything posters, tour shirts great selection of music and hard to find albums from 8 track ,cassette, vinyl even had reel to reel. And incense along with all the proper paraphernalia. It closed two years ago and reopened as a dart and skateboard supply shop. The other one was called Strange Daze music just read the Q-hut description but was more heavy on the needs then the music side of the business.Didn't last as long closed late 70's. Very sad.
  2. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Feb 16 2007, 10:58 AM) QUOTE (Necromancer @ Feb 15 2007, 07:03 PM) Here's the link to it from IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0471921/ Not a real lot of info though. According to that link, the movie's budget was a whopping $15,000! There are no reviews for it. It was filmed and opened in Columbus, Ohio. My guess is this was a privately made extremely low-budget independent film, not even good enough to make a flim festival, much less be released in theaters. Maybe a local film festival. Jeez, it could even be a school project. Anyway, I highly, highly doubt that it influenced Rush in any way. How could they have seen it? I remember reading in Ghost Rider that Neil has friends from Columbus he correspond with during his travels. Perhaps mentioned and the title at least stuck with Neil( Writes things down and saves what he finds interesting) Don't think so.....
  3. QUOTE (pinkfloyd1973 @ Feb 15 2007, 03:33 PM) Remember those glory days?!!! My son (soon to be 7) and I were talking about cartoons, he's seen many of the Looney Tunes, some Jetsons, I even picked up a VHS tape one time at the used book store of some Rocky and Bullwinkle. He loved it!! They don't make 'em like that any more. I was asking him if he had seen any Yogi Bear, he said he hadn't. (what a shame) I added it to Netflix queue. Then I got to thinking about "all" the great ones, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Mr. Magoo. (haha) Klondyke Kat, Josie and the Pussy cats, The Groovy Goolies. Aaaah, the good old days of cartoon Saturday mornings. Those were the glory days! I remember in grade school how excited everyone was when the big three networks(ABC,CBS,NBC) would have there Saturday cartoon preview show on Friday night. Spotlighting the new cartoons.
  4. in Cleveland summer 2007. Haven't missed one yet since 1980!!
  5. QUOTE (BassUnderPressure @ Feb 7 2007, 03:40 AM) Genesis, my second favorite band. Followed by Marillion Intelligent music comes from Great Britain. What country is the opposite of your proclamation? He asked knowingly...
  6. Actung Baby is solid, they start to get sporadic with Zooropa.Theres one great song Stay(Faraway So Close!) but generally average left over experiment from Actung Baby. The Wanderer kinda cool with Johnny Cash. U2 was null and void with me when Pop /Poop? came out The last U2 I purchased was All that you can't leave behind it's a good album but don't listen to it as much as the earlier stuff, boy up to Joshua Tree.
  7. I enjoy Unforgettable fire more of the art rock atmospheric side of U2, a Sort Of Homecoming pure poetry. But always thought most of the songs from this album translated better live then original studio recording. (If that makes any sense! ) Often wondered how different October would of been if Bono's original song lyrics and idea's for that album were not stolen. Which I believe they were returned to him not to long ago. Still like that album very spiritual in focus.
  8. Also I think World Party is considered Welsh. Goodbye Jumbo great album.
  9. QUOTE (Finbar @ Jan 31 2007, 08:46 PM) I didn't know The Edge wasn't Irish!? Dave Evans was born in East.London and his parents Welsh.
  10. Wheres The Cranberries? Pretty sure all the members are 100% authentic Irish! Zombie
  11. There was at least eight independent video stores in the Canton area during the height of the newly found video craze. (Weird I remember having to pay for membership $30.00 for a year and one free movie with every ten rentals, fringe benefits able to reserve movies, you get first priority on new releases and free pop corn! oh boy! ) Man was that a scam but they all were like that in the beginning, at least around here. Now theres none, unless you count the video porn shop downtown Sad but it's the sign of the times, Blockbuster,Hollywood Video, online service netflix etc. Are the equivalent of Walmart,Lowes and Borders and there effect on local small business. The chains are far more convenient and have more buying power to deal with overhead. Can't compete, so mom and pop have to close down shop.
  12. I think the strawbs should at least be mentioned, they had as many different members as YES one time or another..... ( including Rick Wakeman was a strawb!) And Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention was a strawb. The strawbs a prog/glam band other times folk Very good probably not great. But always interesting with skilled musicians and song writers.
  13. Hey, wheres Mabsant? .... wrong genre
  14. QUOTE (tick @ Jan 29 2007, 06:27 PM) i dont see rush ever having an opening act again, theres just no way they would do that at this stage of the career, IMHO.(finbar ) Agreed.

  16. Still look forward to Simpsons on sunday night, but Family Guy is #1 and starting warm up to American Dad.. (It's gradually getting funnier) btw what happened to Mr.Burns bitch Waylon Smithers? Did they kill him off like Ned Flanders wife..
  17. The U2 biography, Unforgettable Fire written by Eamon Dunphy is laced with stories of Thin Lizzy . Matter of fact near the end of the book theres a brief chapter by Fintan O'Toole entitled Don't Believe A Word: The Life And Death Of Phil Lynott. Great band , I have Jail Break, Black Rose and Renegade "Angel Of Death"

"It's a cookbook! It's a cookbook!" The Simpsons adapted this and other TZ episodes on there halloween specials.
  22. Love this show my favorite on HBO next to the Sopranos. Cast is great Richard Lewis constantly miserable!
  23. I try to watch as many possible during marathon buy usually wind up seeing the same ones,(follow the same viewing pattern as previous years.) Have to start watching sooner when it first starts. I enjoy TZ but some of the stories are really weak and have similarities to others. Makes me think when it was first aired did the endings really surprise and fool the tv audience at the time? Some not to hard to figure out...
  24. QUOTE (treeduck @ Dec 30 2006, 02:53 PM) QUOTE (softfilter @ Dec 30 2006, 02:50 PM) Raging Bull, Robert De Niro. Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but it's definitely a black and white classic. Well although the majority of the film is black and white there are some colour segments which is why I didn't mention it... Your right! One i own that IS black and white , use to get into those old pirate swashbuckler films one of my favorites is The Black Arrow starring Janet Blair and Louis Heyward
