Go out one day, and go to a rave, and you won't be dissapointed. Much more fun than going to a rock concert. And once again, it's people looking in the wrong places, there is some VERY good d'n'b out there. Nah.... Rave was shite the first time round and it's still shite now The UK has the BEST DJ's out there. No matter if it's Drum and Bass, House, Breakbeat, Jungle and so on...raves are fun. My friend is a professional breakbeat DJ and it's always a good night when she is mixing Pink Floyd with DJ Deekline and Wizard. I went to a couple of these big raves in the early 90s....Hated them with a passion, and I can see no reason why they would be any better now. I have no interest in DJs whatsoever, all they are doing is (albeit skilfully) mixing other peoples stuff. A computer programme could do it just as well. Check out DJ Q Bert. Damn that guy is amazing! and no computer program can do this. Period. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKD0dJvaPOU Sorry, but that was about as interesting as watching a plank warp.... Obviously, you have no clue how hard it is to do. I've tried it...and it's hard. and i'm a drummer! Need to be skilled to be a DJ...need to be super creative as well. You missed my point completely. I know full well that it is very hard to do as my stepson was quite proficient at it, but that doesn't change the fact that it is utterly pointless and about as entertaining as herpes

  5. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Feb 24 2007, 12:01 AM) I'm sure if I really searched I would maybe like 1% of 1% of country or 1% of 1% of rap. By like, I mean music that I think is good, but that I wouldn't want to actually buy. Just because I might be able to tolerate 1 out of every 1,000 acts and maybe, for argument's sake, I might actually like enough to own 1 out of every 10,000 acts, doesn't mean I'm gonna say I like the genre or have repsect for it. Yeah, it might be a gross generalization to say I hate country or I hate rap, but it's true. Just because I might like 1/100th of 1% of it doesn't change that. Sure, I could spend time going to websites to try and find that 1 act I might like or I can go to clubs to try to find that 1 act that I might like, but why would I want to? There are genres where I know I like a high percentage of what I hear. Isn't that a better use of my time? I have to agree with most of this. I respect what Puppetking and D-13 are trying to say, but remember, most people who are a bit older (I'm not trying to be patronising here) have a lot more "hands on their time" and life commitments prevent us from spending all our spare time listening to and discovering new music. As a result we have to use what time we do have a bit more wisely, and I'm afraid it's simply playing the percentages. We can stick to a genre where it's pretty certain we will like a fair amount of stuff or take a chance on something new. When your time is more squeezed and as a result more precious, it becomes a relatively easy choice to make. Furthermore, remember that it's only music. When I was much younger, it seemed like the be-all and end-all of everything, but the fact remains that there aere other things which are more important as you eill discover in time. I still love music (I still play in a covers band when I can), but it has to be slotted into a list of priorities which life presents. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that the onus is on these supposedly "good" examples of a particular genre to make themselves more obvious. If they are content to remain in relative ocscurity and aren't interested in my opinion, then why should I take the time and trouble to seek them out?
  6. Hmmm.. Country or Rap? Jesus, it's like choosing between Leprosy and Cancer!

  12. I don't see how anyone could really vote for anything other than The Beatles. I really like them, but there is other music I personally prefer. However, for sheer originality, impact, and influence there is no one else that can touch them.
  13. I was going to suggest "El Presidente" as an alternative for Goober, but his campaign seems to have vanished withoutna trace.....
  14. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jan 8 2007, 07:43 PM) I never liked the band and I can't stand his voice... So I take it you don't like Peter Gabriel as well, because to me they sound pretty similar....
  15. Script was the best for me, though the ep which preceded it was great (the one with "Grendel" on it) I kind of lost interest after Fish left, so don't really know too much about the Hogarth era.

Anyway, it's history as far as I am concerned. The American thing was meant purely as bait for Ducky which to his credit he didn't take.... You should be used to being insulted by now Fridgey... I am, but being called English was a bridge too far....I mean, how nuch can a man take?
  18. QUOTE (liquidcrystalcompass @ Jan 18 2007, 04:44 PM) I was hoping that this genteel English debate would deteriorate into a full blown pissing contest. There's another Americanism for Fridge. less of the "English" if you don't mind

It's actually a pretty funny thread and not really meant to be taken seriously. And although it's slower than it has been, there are many aspects of the forum that are better than others out there, just as there are aspects of this forum which it would be nice to see incorporated there. And I don't think I'm a "f*cked in the head idiot", so it's probably just you I should have known that'd be your hang-out... It's no more my "hang out" than here, though I've been a member there longer. I just think it's a bit much to call people "f*cked in the head idiots" because you find their opinion unpalatable. I repeat, I think if you read it properly you will see most of it is tongue in cheek apart from a couple of silly folks. I'm still convinced you are really American I'll be an American for you if you want mate, what kind of attributes do Americans have that you most closely observe and that you'd like to see incorparated here for your entertainment? Again you are assuming that I'm being negative...... It's specically to do with your opinions which are very much in line with this forum (predominantly American) and your general language and presentation. You do seem to use rather a lot of American style slang. If you were actually American this is no bad thing, but I'm just puzzled as to why you type the way you do. It could of course be that you have spent a lot of time there... So you see, I'm not being derogatory, just curious, so lets steer this away from something its not intended to be, shall we? I also still think it was a bit much to be personally derogatory towards members of the other forum. They are merely stating their dislike for a certain type of music, you are getting personal. Hope this clarifies..... You're assuming I'm assuming you're being negative, but why do you think this? I typed a polite sentence? What else can I say? I am American I'm not American. I thought it was funny anyway... Don't you want me to entertain you with some Americanisms? Just say no if you don't like the idea. I'm easy. But I'm also lazy so you'll have to draw up a plan and guide so I can do as little as possible, that ok? Thing is Fridge you assume that I'm deadly serious with everything I do, or it appears that way. But you say how you and your pals over there at TNMS are only having a laugh. So ok I'm the serious guy and you and your mates are these hilarious types. Ok then, but I'm curious as to how you came to see me as this serious figure. You obviously only read my "serious" posts, have a look around the forum and see how serious I am really and compare it to your "treeduck as a serious American" vision of me, and see what you think. it's ok if you want to see me as serious but your mum still loves you and if she's dead then RIP... Wow! If you think I take you seriously, then you are WAY off the mark. There have been many times I have "got" what you have been saying when others haven't.. 21. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Jan 17 2007, 10:16 PM) We have members from all over the globe. Rush is most popular in the States so it makes sense that the majority of our members hail from there. We like to think of ourselves as Rush board, not an American Rush board. Check out our Europe map -- LOTS of members from there, especially from the U.K. We even have two pins on our Africa map! All true, but I was merely having fun with Ducky
