Also it never hurts to pick up an instructional video If I were suggesting one , I would definitely and without a close second choice suggest : ANATOMY of a Drum Solo :

Start off slowly and don't waste a lot of time trying for speed right away . accuracy at this point is more important . by just starting with some simple slow quads you will begin to get the feel of it, then just build speed . then I tried rolling around the set in quads . My son as soon as he hit the drum set for the first time did quads , he's so funny to watch his little legs movin, barely able to touch the pedals while sitting and hitting the toms , but he did them pretty good for a little guy and the timing wasn't that bad , it actully shocked me quite a bit on how good his timing was over and over again . Now grooving ! That's a different story ! It's got to groove . Bsically at the end of the day , it has to be fun It usually always is but I know I have my days when I want to jam but something insode me obviously don't . That isn't often though . Good luck with it man

My son asked if I would type a reply for him. He says : " I would like to have that drum set because of all the gold " " I bet it cost a million dollars though, that's a lot of gold " That's from little T , I'm trying to convert him http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/TNTONPMS/b74808ca-1.jpg -

QUOTE (Mustard Death @ Apr 10 2007, 06:05 PM) Personally, I don't get why someone would buy something like this. Same thing goes for those Geddy Lee fender basses... if you're a real musician and love what you do, why would you want a carbon copy of someone elses setup or instrument? Seems kind of unoriginal... I see it as something your rich uncle would buy for you if he didn't know you that well, but knew you were a fan or something. Hey Mustard ! That avatar that you have is Crazy looking ! What the heck ? Is that real ? I mean , is that guys head really getting blown apart like that ? That is Mind Blowing ! -
Guitar Center making 30 copies of Neil's kit

That too Alph !!! Definitely a nice conversation piece . Can ya imagine yer friends faces when they walk into your living room and see that thing there ? Last night I had to wake my wife up and show her . She thought Neil was getting rid of his original though . I showed her the pic and told her " Look what's for sale !" She says "ohhhh a copy " Like a serious let down or something She says " I want his set " I was like , "so do I , but this is a nice consolation prize " I forgot who the person was that posted pictures of their Rush room, but I'll bet they wouldn't mind that set being in there either , even if they don't play the drums . I asked my wife if she would be too angry if I put some of my more collectible vintage baseballs up for auction to get that set , she said , "they're yours , personally I really wouldn't do THAT" But that set, in years to come if kept in nice condition would still fetch a pretty penny [Not that I would sell it ] But sometimes when times get tough financially you're forced to do things you wouldn't ordinarily do . Kinda like to get this set, I sure don't have the cash on hand, I would have to get rid of something BIG ! -

That drum set is a hell of a lot nicer than the one I play . . . That is a beautiful drum set . And plenty of quality to go around I'd rock that thing in a minute if I had the cash layin around . I Don't do any tours , not in any band , don't do any type of recordings , I just love to play the drums , I love to play the drums for one reason, because of the person who has a drum set just like that one , I have been playing the drums for over 30 years and I only like one style of playing. The style of the drummer that plays a drum set just like that one . I would absolutely love to sit behind that set and call that set mine . I'd put that son of a gun in my damn living room and call it furniture for crying out loud The only thing that could be better than that drum set in my house , would be having it autographed by Neil and have it sitting in my house . Talk about one hell of a collectable !! I'm sure that drum set could support many different styles . NOOOOOOOOO doubt about it ! I'd rock it in a heartbeat . . . . <~~~ Lookin around for something to sell Do they give a price ? -
Man ! this stuff excites me so much. . . I can't wait for the next post !

Such an interesting Thread! I was hoping to see a pic when I came home from werk , to compare . That would absolutely be something special to find out it was one of Alex's Ax's . There was a similar situation a few years ago, a guy had this NY Yankee Jersey up for auction , was a Mickey mantle signed jersey, the guy that was auctioning it believed it to be just an autographed jersey, as people were looking at it and reserching it , it was found to be a GAME USED 1951 MANTLE JERSEY [ His rookie year ] and the way they found out was the placement of the NY on the crest , no two are exactly the same , but by looking at pics , and the actual herringbone style stitching in the pinstripes , it was found to be a Game Used . . . .a huge difference in worth ! So . . . . lets keep on digging, you never know what ya might have !

WOW, THIS IS A COOL THREAD . . . TTG, do you have a picture of that guitar that you can post ? It certainly is a lot of fun trying to authenticate . That would be so cool if it was one of his . There have to be a million and one ways to find out if it were one he used , even for just a short time .

What's messed up is that even after all the years I have been playing the drums . . . I still suck ! But even though I suck, all my friends and family and neighbors tell me I'm great . So I guess that's pretty cool, I don't got people screamin at me to stop playin . I guess the thing is "they" really can't hear when I'm doing it wrong But you and I can easily tell . It still is easily the most enjoyable thing I do in my life and I believe you're born with this love . My grandfather was a drummer, My father and I and even now my son . And even though I am not as good as many here, there is no other way I like to express what I am feeling at a particular moment , than to go play the drums . Some people can put feeling to paper Some people can paint it on canvas Others do it through music . . . professional or amature . It's all good I'll trade my Babe Ruth baseball for a drum set like Neil Peart It's easily worth 60 grand , might even be able to get more at auction . matter of fact, i'm certain ya can .

The place where I buy my drums [Long Island Drum Center ] has the new TD 20 S Rolands . My wife was looking at them asking a lot of questions She saw my son playing them and really having a blast on them at the store and I think she might be wanting to get them for us . They're a little bit pricey though . She surprised me a few years ago with the Yamaha electric set and I really loved them , they made a lot of crazy sounds, though my son was a little too young to really appreciate them as much as he would now . Needing cash though, I was forced to sell them and she knew I was kinda upset about having to do it , But priorities are priorities . I can tell though when she is interested in buying something. But the difference in price is HUGE !! Comparing 1300.00 to damn near 6 grand . The good thing is I have done all of my business in one store my whole life and have never gone anywhere else, so I know the guys over there will give us a great deal on them if we do get em .

QUOTE (Rush! @ Jan 5 2007, 08:43 PM) This probably belongs in the Rush section but I figure Cyg & Launchpad will see this here. Are there certain types of glockenspiels (orchestra bells) that Neil used? Because at the Jersey Drums & Percussion place that I go to and take lessons at they have a glockenspiel that you can buy but it resonates so much. On the Circumstances video on R30 on the 2nd disc Neil's glockenspiel sounds more like a xylophone to me and it doesn't seem to resonate. What exactly is he using? Also, what types of cowbells and temple blocks did he use? His exotic percussion is what I'm talking about here. I thought was using electric percussion for all of those sounds these days . . What the heck did he call it again ??? A midi marimba ?? All he's got to do is load the samples and he's got all the sounds from his Bell trees, orchestra bells , yada yada . . . Naturally they would only resonate as long as he wanted them to . He talks about it in his DVD Anatomy of a drum solo . Great DVD !! I have learned a lot from it . Thank you Neil .

Hello, this is quite a question, I have built a replica of the brown rosewood Tama that Neil played in '79-'80-'81 including the correct acoustic percussions, it took a lot of time and research to understand what he was using, at that time he was using: 1) Slingerland-Deagan glockenspiel 2) Taiwanese temple blocks (they were red, with black and gold ornaments) 3) cowbells, a mixture of Ludwig, LP and GonBops 4) Pakistan bell tree 5) five sets of wind chimes 6) Deagan orchestral chimes 7) Zildjian crotales low-octave plus a single crotale 8) two Slingerland triangles 9) Zildjian Burma bell You can see some pictures of my replica here: http://andrewolson.com/Neil_Peart/Replicas...ro_replicas.htm Please note that the glockenspiel pictured is a Ludwig-Musser, now I have the correct Deagan one. All I got to say is . . . . . Absolutely Awesome ! I love the Mahogany/Rosewood set . I have always wanted that set . Do you remember how much the total was after you were finished ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm looking to get my son his own new Kit , right now he uses mine, for a kid that is about 8.5 years old , what kind of set do you think I should look into? Also cymbals, I don't want to break the bank right away, but at the same time I don't want to buy some crappy cymbals and then find I'm not happy with them as I often have and then just have to buy new ones . A guy at the Drum Center told me to look into Meinl Cymbals for the kids first kit ? Anyone know anything about these cymbals, I have never heard of them . Excellent Pictures on that page !!! I am so jealous A dream of mine to have a set like that

I think we will always have a different favorite on all of the Rush songs . Depends on how we're feeling that particular day I think . They're all the best at one point or another . Specially on that album .

I don't know how to play the guitar, But nuthin Alex plays sounds really "easy" to play . I had a friend back in the day that used to be able to play Tom Sawyer and Red Barchetta on guitar , and I used to jam on the drums , he had those two songs down pretty much,Not me though . . . I find Neils drumming hard to copy too the T all the way through . At some point I will fall apart , or he will just baffle me completely . But I'm havin the most fun trying to copy this band , than anyone else . I have never taken any lessons so they have really ben my only teachers . I would love to learn to play the Bass . Geddy as they all do , plays with so much passion . It's like they all tell a different part of the story in each song with their instruments to come together as one very tight .
