  1. I consider this a perfect guitar solo. It's one of his shorter solos, but there's a lot packed into it. The phrasing is melodic and well-paced, the bursts of speed add intensity, he follows the chord changes perfectly, and his technique is flawless. This is probably his most famous extended solo. Again, the pacing is wonderful, he really takes his time building up the intensity. This song also shows off his chord work.
  2. Derek Trucks might be better than Duane. His slide playing is ridiculous. Steve Morse gets my vote, he's the complete package.
  3. Tough one. I'm more of a Di Meola fan but Carlton is a guitar monster. I will need to mull this one over.
  4. Yes they do, but Eddie's make me want to smash all my guitars. That's gotta be worth something.
  5. The Mavs did some serious house demolition this year. It was tough to watch, even from afar.
  6. Honestly I'm not as up on the NBA or the Knicks as I am with other sports, but I do know that the Celtics were heavily favored in this series and did well against the Knicks in the regular season. I watched most of the game last night and Brunson looks like a gamer.
  7. The Knicks stealing two games in Boston was on very few people's bingo cards.
  8. Good call on Petty and Seger, especially Petty. Lyrically they're more diverse than the typical working class "I've been working 9-to-5 in the fields and living on a prayer as I paint my house pink while having a cold beer with my dog" stuff that just bores me to death.
  9. Well that paints a picture, doesn't it... I for one never liked American heartland "working class" rock. Bruce, Mellencamp, Huey Lewis, Bon Jovi, The Replacements, 99% of country music, etc. Not saying it's bad, just not my cup o' joe. Well, Bon Jovi is bad.
  10. Does Segue like Bowie? Can't imagine him not.
  11. Went with Pete. Joe is a better soloist but Pete's a master rhythm guitarist and is far more influential overall. I didn't see the Townshend vs Livgren poll in the first round. Pete won it 13-0, but I actually would have voted for Kerry.
  12. Bowie leading this one 9-0 so far. As it should be.
  13. I accidentally spilled enriched uranium into my keyboard whilst doing board maintenance. The bad news is, we now have this impending new login procedure. The good news is I have Iran emailing me for a tutorial. They're like, "Howdy neighbor!" And I'm like, "Iran? Iran so far away!"
  14. Page is one of the most important rock guitarists ever, and his songwriting made Led Zep a behemoth. Despite his well-documented sloppiness he was still a great player. But Beck was better. He could do things on a guitar that no one else could do. His phrasing was uniquely his. He was many of your favorite guitarist's favorite guitarist for a reason.
  15. Paul Simon is an excellent player, but James Taylor is a master, especially at finger picking.
  16. Right. Schon is probably more skilled, and he's written some iconic pop-rock solos. Ronson personifies glam-rock guitar. Not sure which to pick.
  17. My most sincere condolences. Damn.
  18. Saw a couple of clips from the Madrid and Paris shows, looks like they drew nice crowds there. They extended the opening riff in Sharks too. Makes sense when they have the pit going, gives the moshers more time to bang heads.
