  1. how could you not like those 2 songs? They were both amazing when I heard them, and are still the best songs on clockwork angels.
  2. QUOTE (Kelly D @ Jun 9 2012, 12:29 PM) The beginning of "The Wreckers" from 0:15-till Ged starts singing is identical to "Armor and Sword." YES! I was trying to figure this one out for the life of me everytime I listen to Wreckers. Mystery solved finally. This is probably the only one I find true so far.
  3. Wow. I only checked on the first example. La Villa & Carnies. Not even close to a resemblance. But whatever. I'm not gonna go into further argument to shatter someones appeal in hearing an old song in a new song. I'm a guitar player (probably obvious) and I'm sorry to tell you but there is nothing similar about that. Having said that, with all the examples: It's gonna be apparent that sometimes certain songs or sounds are the same as previous works. We're looking at 40 years worth of music material here. Things are going to get repeated at times, unintentionally in most cases, but that's just the way it is. The boys have a certain style, and even though you try and stray, certain things are unavoidable, and you're going to play a song, the way you naturally would play it. As a musician, I've become better at learning Rush's material the more I play it, because Alex has a style, and once you're in his headspace or frame of mind musically, you can pretty much see where he's going a lot of the time. Same goes with my dad who plays Bass. He's pretty much fully adapted Geddy's style because all he plays is Rush.
  4. If a time machine had existed in the 70's when you were first starting out, and you took that time machine into the future to 2012 (for example) and checked out what kind of music you'd be writing later in your career. What would you say/think of it? Seriously. Imagine how mind blown they'd be at the material of today compared to what they were writing in the 70's or 80's. They'd probably refuse to believe it. LOL I wonder why an interviewer has never asked them this question? It would be super interesting.
  5. Lmao. Lucky guy. I asked HMV, I only have big stores near me. It went something like this: Sooooo uhhh you guys got the new Rush CD yet? Guy: Ummm it comes out June 12th I believe, let me check..yep June 12th. So you can't sell me a copy right now? Guy....*looks at me for a few seconds with a suspicious face* It comes out June 12th.... LoL. They SO had copies of that shit in there. Sigh*
  6. I don't hear any La Villa in it and I can play La Villa in full on guitar. *shrug* Unless you're talking about bass or some synth sounds or something.
  7. Hmmm, quite a diverse mix we got here. Remember, even though you may REALLY like one song from a half that you don't particularly like, the idea of the thread is to commit to choosing one if you had to. We can all kiss the proverbial ass all day but ultimately a decision must be made!
  8. 1-6? or 7-12? 1-6 for me personally triumphs the second half with flying colors. I find that by the time Carnies is over and I've heard about half of Halo Effect, that's about all I need to hear. The rest is okay, but not nearly as good as the first 5 tracks that's for sure.
  9. QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ Jun 8 2012, 07:25 PM) The smell of flint and steel A wheel of fate, a game of chance I like the 'odd' vocals here Yes, that's gotta be one of the catchiest vocals Geddy has ever done on a record. It gets stuck in my head constantly. Double post FTW.
  10. When you compare it to Halo Effect, BU2B2, and The Garden, it's a masterpiece. Song owns face.
  11. I don't have mine yet but something tells me that I MIGHT receive it on June 12th. I'll let you know then.
  12. I thought this was originally just meant for having rush play the clockwork angels title track in the tour. I'm sure they will play it, but, I'm not looking forward to it. The title track is pretty weak ass if you ask me. Only songs they need to play from CWA is the following and I'd be happy. Caravan BU2B Anarchist Carnies Headlong Flight. Annnnd that be it. The rest are mediocre.
  13. Well I'll agree that live it sounds like a cluster f**k, but the studio recording of it is outstanding.
  14. QUOTE (presto123 @ Jun 6 2012, 06:57 PM) I have a hard time fathoming how Caravan got 2 votes. My least fav solo on the record. I was hoping they were going to change it actually. I voted Caravan. That solo rips face. Do you not play guitar?
  15. The Garden? Really? Ugh....Amateurs.
  16. QUOTE (danielmclark @ Jun 6 2012, 11:24 AM) QUOTE (UltimoGuitarist @ Jun 5 2012, 10:59 PM) ****no. **** books. Lovely. Yes, f**k books. Who needs education, the distribution of ideas and the exercise of imagination? Books are worthless You know who has never said f**k books? Everyone who has ever been successful, ever - not counting the media whores that seem to dominate the landscape these days, but if you think they're models to live by... yikes. What about Alex Lifeson? Too slow of a reply. GG GOML.
  17. QUOTE (HemispheresserehpsimeH @ Jun 6 2012, 01:43 PM) QUOTE (UltimoGuitarist @ Jun 6 2012, 12:39 PM) Eh don't stress over it trenken. Apparently we're part of a minority that are picky enough to know when to admit something isn't quite as good as it could be. There's no sense trying to convince someone who has already made up their mind something is flawless. Why would you be allowed to convince someone because you're picky, when they can't convince you that it's flawless in their minds? It's opinion. Not saying you should be convinced that it ISNT flawless. I'm just saying that if you've made up your mind that its amazing, then odds are you're not going to be very open to suggestion that it could use some work. It's much easier to accept a positive opinion than a negative one. That being said, people who think The Garden is great, are only going to shrug off anyones opinion that it could use some work.

  19. Yeah, this song, and Carnies are probably my 2 favorite songs on the album, not counting the 3 that we've already heard prior. These 2 songs rip face.
  20. QUOTE (priest_of_syrinx @ Jun 6 2012, 01:10 PM) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1GadTfGFvU Mmmmm a bunch of women torturing a man. That's where its at.
  21. Well to each his own I suppose. Yeah I love the coldness of GUP. I love a production that compliments the type of music being played, and (this sounds ridiculous but...) the album cover. LOL. For some reason I associate the two together sometimes. GUP looks cold and wintery. And the songs sound that way too. Love that.
  22. Wow seriously? If anything I find his vocals are too overpowering on this album. I can BARELY hear the guitar work over the mass amount of middle eastern sounding vocals.
